I feel the science part of this story was where it shined, the relationships and dialogue between the characters are where it fell apart for me, somewhat. On the one hand, the actions of the characters, especially the MC were rather impetuous but on the other, it was sorta fascinating and creepy to hear what these ants were capable of.
pickThis is plausibly terrifying. I read it in two days, couldn‘t put it down. Genetically modified killer ants swarming a whole island = the stuff of nightmares.

pickGreat #LMPBC pick @BethM ! I loved Chuck Wendig's writing style. The plot was solid and fast paced, the main character was interesting and fairly likeable, and the ant scenes made you feel super creepy- crawly all over. A good #creaturefeature !

This book is quite entertaining! Thanks #LMPBC crew for getting me to read my first Chuck Wendig novel. I now know the sound that a thousand ants make as the harvest the skin from a human body. 😨
After a busy start to the weekend, 3/4 of the family is sick. At least I was able to have a relaxing Sunday. Clue, The Dark Crystal and my #LMPBC book have been enjoyable today.

These weaponized ants are the brainchild of an eccentric billionaire. They get loose on an island and all hell breaks loose. Strong female lead. A few character cameos from Wendig‘s “Zer0es” (read that too!).
This book is creepy, smart, and full of action.

pickStayed home today as the migraine wasn‘t gone when I work up. Feeing better though, just not close to 70-80% yet. This was super good! Great sci-fi thriller. A bit scary at times because of the plausibility. I highly recommend, and never would‘ve found it if not for #lmpbc. @Avanders this will be in the mail today or tomorrow depending on when I can drive again.
pickThis was fun and the mad-scientist stuff was pretty sound. The main character was raised by doomsday prepers, which makes her incredibly resourceful against the genetically modified killer ants that drive the story.
Started reading this, but switched to the audiobook, which is surprisingly good. Ants, genetics, murder...fun stuff!

pickThis was a bit of a stretch for me to read because I do not mix well with bugs. But it was a thrilling read and I think I enjoyed it overall. I would love to read more books with the same protagonist.
5/5 for ohhhh shitttt 4/5 for main character and 5/5 for overall execution. Warning: if ants or other insects give you the heebie jeebies ya might want to avoid this book. Unless you purposefully want horror.
I'll admit the first 30 or so odd pages I thought it was going to be thriller trash and I was constantly double checking his ant facts. But then I relaxed about it and learned some cool stuff! #thriller #onesitting
It is my deepest desire to be a mad scientist. I wouldn't murder people, but you bet your aunt fanny I would genetically engineer everything.

pickComparisons to Michael Crichton's are numerous and deserved. Invasive is about genetically-engineered ants posing a threat to humankind. You'll probably figure out who the baddies are fairly early, but it's still a fun book.
pickYou wouldn't think a book about killer ants could be done well, but Wendig nails it. Fun and exciting.

so-soOdd what a deep Kindle discount will lead me to read. Very quick, kinda fun despite bugs. Might go back and read the other book with the same protagonist and no insects.
so-soA great plot - very X-FILES-ish - but not much in the way of character, even for the protagonist, in whose head we theoretically spend a lot of time. A+ on the freaky typography, though. 😬

pickA fun read, especially for fans of Warren Ellis and Michael Crichton. This is one of those books that when it gets going you don't want to put it down. If not for work, I would have stayed up all night the first day I had it to finish.

pickExciting, fast-Ish read. (Just don't read after going on a hike with ample mosquitos = crawly dreams!) Great thriller, not as dark as Wendig's Miriam Black books ... Then again ...
pickThis page-turner is set in the same world as Wendig's Zeroes, though it's quite different in tone. See, there are deadly ants swarming and eating people and it's up to futurist, survivalist, and FBI consultant Hannah Stander to figure out what's going on. Creepy and compelling!
