I adore everything Ruth Goodman does. I am really enjoying this book as I did the Victorian one. #history #ruthgoodman

Finished with 19 minutes to go of the year. I still wish Goodman used footnotes instead of forcing me to guess which source go with which fact, and that she was less likely to always take the side of the historical period, but a half hearted pick
But there is a conflict with another book on the topic of eating geese; on that matter I'm more likely to believe the food historian.

I had a lot of fun reading & listening to this one over the past two weeks!! Fascinating and well-researched but at times super detailed. It read a little dry in the chapters that were less-interesting to me. I love that the author actually tried many of these old Tudor customs herself, like not bathing for three months, etc. This is a book about the regular citizens of the Tudor Era, from regular houses, not those in high positions and at court.

My current read & listen and it‘s fascinating!! Especially if you are interested in the Tudor time period. The author has researched very, very meticulously, even going as far as to live as they did in the past (same clothing, hygiene 😳, sleeping habits, etc). It‘s a slower read for me because I keep searching for more info and pictures, but I can‘t put it down.

So this book took this #slowreader a year. But it was worth it. I learned so much about Tudor #history my favorite subject.

I‘m about 100 pages in and I can‘t put it down 🙈 the author paints a pretty vivid and detailed picture of the daily life of people in the Tudor era. If you‘re a history nerd like I am you might really enjoy this👌

I certainly learned a lot. This was easy to pick up and put down. It wasn‘t especially a compelling read, but it was interesting. I could have done without the author‘s descriptions of her own first hand experiences with some aspects of the book. It was enough for me to know how some things were done rather than reliving her firsthand experiences as well. I also would have appreciated translations of some of the period writing.

So far this is a fountain of info. I love the wolf hall series by Hillary Mantel and was curious about the real life on that period: Fascinating and really weird, apparently! The writing is not great but the subject is so interesting I am flying through it.👍

Surprisingly, the typical Sunday morning for a Tudor did not include yoga, brunch, and mimosas. Who knew?

Reading the section " To wash or not to wash" in this lovely book while getting a pedi and leg massage. Obviously for the present time period and my personal taste the debate is a moot one. ????✔️

Listening to this like: this will prob be a great dramaturgy source for working on Shakespeare and his contemporaries.

The hubby is obviously enjoying his book. It's not even light outside and he's already been reading for an hour. 😍 And he's wearing the Game of Thrones shirt I gave him for Christmas.

I caught the end of this on the radio on the way home from work Friday and IMMEDIATELY had to buy it. I love all things Tudor and she was entertaining to listen to. About to slip into a Sunday bath (with a glass of rose) and start it.

Tudor-era weren't as smelly as we think and some of them made their own cheese, ale, and beer in their homes. Not as good as How to Be A Victorian but I did learn some new tidbits. Also, the author actually learns how to do some Tudor era things such as ale brewing and wears the clothes.

Ruth is so awesome! I think she was actually from history; all of it. She looks just at home in Victorian as in Tudor times.

Always fascinated by the economic freedoms afforded to widows.

This book just made me realize that the word "presumptuous" is related to "sumptuary laws". To be presumptuous is to dress above your station.

I loved being able to get a look into day to day life. My one complaint is that it didn't talk about childbirth and children like she did in "How to be a Victorian."

Fun read ,glad for Modern Times exhausted just reading about guide to Tudor lives.
