Such a great follow up to “Less”. Author is so real and his adventures entertaining. Rooting for Author Less always 🖤

I started this one in hardcover and finished it on audiobook, which worked well for my current lifestyle. I didn't like this one quite as much as I liked Less---the "other Arthur Less" thing was a little confusing to me---but it's still a funny and poignant story of how our beliefs about what we deserve bump against what others think they deserve, and how that all gets extra complicated when love is involved.
ACK! The chaotic evil bookmark! In a library book! Oh, the humanity! Now every time I walk around our neighborhood, I'm going to look at each person I pass and wonder if that's the person who did this. Although I guess it's better than a slice of turkey bacon. Or a spider.
Charmingly absurd and sentimental, but not sure it quite recaptures the magic of the first. Do enjoy the writing, the clever call backs.
In this one we do get the love interest as more than a narrator, but it feels uneven in that you get remembrances of their relationship from both characters, but not much present day from Freddy, and when we do, it doesn't feel like a distinctive voice, just echoes of the same anxiety and insecurity as Less. 1/?
This book continues the story of Arthur Less, about his life and his writing events. It was funny, but I much preferred the first book. I think I liked how each chapter was a different city or country in Europe.
Disappointing follow-up. I can‘t think of many sequels, though, which surpass the originals.
First book of my Easter Readathon. I didn‘t start until 4/8/23, I‘m battling my second go-round with COVID and slept almost all day yesterday 😷
Although not as good as Greer‘s Less, this charming sequel is just what the doctor ordered.

Agreeing with the consensus that while good, this sequel doesn‘t quite measure up to the original. That‘s ok; Arthur Less is a character well worth revisiting.
Arthur Less, charmingly hapless author at large, is on the road again in this sequel, taking on a series of miscellaneous literary jobs to make quick cash and save the home he shares with Freddy. Meanwhile, Freddy is in Maine, forging a path of his own. Just as lovely as the first book, and once again somehow finding laugh out loud humor in Arthur's bad German, Arthur's journey through the heartland is a delight.
Was it as good as the first book? Definitely not.
Was it a worthwhile sequel? Absolutely yes.
"I could choose love. Or I could choose cheese." ?
It's four days' travel from New Mexico to Louisiana, and the only way is through Texas: a long, dry section of America that, for cross-country travelers, is equivalent to the long, dry section on the "Witness of the Whale" in Moby-Dick, the tedium of which drives most readers to madness.
1-21-23: My 8th finished book of 2023! Book 2 in the Arthur Less saga. Arthur, a moderately accomplished novelist is in a steady relationship with Freddy, living in San Francisco. After the death of an old lover occurs, Arthur finds out his home is in peril so he takes on a bunch of literary gigs to help him financially. These gigs take him from the west to the south and back to his birthplace of Delaware while he faces his personal demons.
Starting this one with some apprehension. I quite liked the first book, but I'm not convinced that it needed a sequel. I hope Greer always had this continuation in mind, and it's not a case of "hey, Less won the Pulitzer, let's have a sequel". Although that would fit with the story too and Less is nothing if not meta. ???♀️ Ok, diving in.
I loved the first book and this book did not disappoint. I have fallen in love with Arthur Less. I suspect a lot of Less is the author. Made me chuckle . Maybe not as good as the first book for me but worth a read if you enjoyed the first.
I really liked the first book about Arthur Less with its unique writing style, and was not at all surprised it won the Pulitzer. But a second book? I can‘t say I found it interesting to read about him again. There will probably be more in this series, but not for me.
A lovely evening with one of my book group friends at the Wheeler Centre's Spring Fling. Andrew Sean Greer in conversation with Benjamin Law.
Follows the fortunes of Arthur Less, 50ish “Minor American Novelist” and possible “bad gay” as he travels around the US pursuing paying gigs as interviewer, speaker and playwright while sitting on a literary prize jury by webcam and of his lover, Freddy Pelu, on sabbatical in Maine. Maybe not quite as charming as the first book, Less, but a worthwhile sequel.
There‘s a lot of this book that is endearing, funny and cringy. It started very strong, ended well, but it meandered a little in the middle. The tone is funny, and though I didn‘t read the first book, I felt as though it didn‘t take away from my enjoyment of this novel.
Happy to follow Arthur Less as he bumbles through yet another adventure—this time a meandering cross country road trip in a camper van with a dog. It‘s fun, and a bit bizarre, filled with Less‘s own particular brand of white gay man worries/midlife crisis/existential angst. Greer‘s prose is witty and flamboyant as ever. Not quite as magical as the first book, but an excellent time was had by all.
Arthur Less returns, this time facing some personal tragedy and no less bumbling. I just loved Less and enjoyed this as well, though I think the first one was a bit better. This is definitely worth it, though, if you liked Less.
So so charming, just like the last book. Laugh out loud funny at times. A refreshingly positive book full of hope as well. Nothing mind blowing and very similar to Less, but just a really nice little world to be a part of for a while.
I just love Less and Freddy. If you found the first book endearingly hilarious as well, you‘ll love book 2. I do think this could work as a stand-alone.
Less‘ first long term partner has died, and he finds out the house he and Freddy are living in had a reverse mortgage. He needs cash fast before they are homeless. He goes on a trek across the USA to raise funds and makes peace with people and himself along the way. Freddy once again narrates.

Ooh, I was thinking about Less a few days ago and how much I enjoyed it and how I'd love to read more of this character and then today I see that there IS a sequel coming! How exciting!
