so-so

I got this one for like $2 from BookOutlet in 2020 and finally picked it up as one of my #Roll100 books for January. I knew this was a book with strong Christian themes before I picked it up, and that definitely is a big part of the story as this is actually a riff on the Biblical story of Esther. It actually wasn't too terrible of a concept, with Addy chosen as one of 100 girls completing in a reality TV show to be the president's son's date ⬇

However, even though Addy agrees that she's been chosen to be on this show as a witness for her faith, she spends way too long whining/hiding/avoiding mentioning Christianity, making it difficult for me to believe in her sincerity. There is also a very strong “all the other girls are worldly=bad“ theme. Part of it did fit with the show, where everyone would naturally be very competitive and not particularly interested in ⬇ 3y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) helping each other, but in general there was just too much of Addy being basically too good to wear makeup or worry about clothes.

It wasn't a terrible read, it just could used a little more editing. And now this one is off my TBR and into the giveaway box!! Thanks @PuddleJumper !!!

TheAromaofBooks @Suet624 - #Roll100 is a challenge that @PuddleJumper is hosting - make a list of 100 books to last you through the year, and she's rolling two numbers each month to read from the list!! Kind of like #BookSpin except bigger!!! 3y

TheAromaofBooks @Suet624 - 100 books is a lot to come up with and it did make me realize that I have SO many unread books on my shelves, because that's what they all are!!! I can see it being a little bit intimidating haha I chose really low-priority books that I thought could use a little nudge, so that helped. 3y

Big winter storm Thursday into Friday & we woke up to a Level 3 snow emergency yesterday (sadly - mostly due to ice, not piles of snow). I was so stoked because it meant my husband didn't have to attempt his 45-mile commute and we embraced the snow day spirit by spending the day reading, playing games, and napping. It was AWESOME. I finally finished both January #LMPBC books this week - being late on those was stressing me out!! This picture ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) makes it look like my windowsill should be nice and empty for tomorrow's #WeeklyForecast.... but I loaded all of February's books into and it's more stuffed than ever!! 😂

TheAromaofBooks @AmandaBlaze - I had mixed feelings about it but overall liked it. The world-building was a little slow/uneven which left me feeling sometimes frustrated about understanding what was actually going on, but the story itself was good with an interesting concept. I definitely see myself reading the sequel when it comes out later this year. 3y

bailed

Bailed after 7 chapters, there are 52. I really tried to get through it so that I could check off a BINGO square in one of my reading challenges.

I however the description/book blurb doesn't tell you that it's a super religious book. It's not preaching to you, instead, it's all about how you should trust God/let God decide/be the savior to ask the people. There's like one sentence in each paragraph.

CSeydel I mean ... yes and no. I‘d rather be bought a book than a drink, of course. But for the person making the first move, I think there‘s a much higher probability that the girl in the bar is interested in being courted. Going around hitting on women in bookstores could turn ugly fast. 6y

Liatrek As a single person who is always in bookstores and never in bars😊 I would say yes please. Maybe bookstores should host single nights. 6y
