#doublespin done! Another reread of the vampire chronicles and I enjoyed this! A lot of reviews mention it being rambly but I always quite enjoy Anne Rice‘s little philosophical diversions… and I bloody love Lestat and how much he loves himself 😆

This also fits into #promptmaze as a dubious ‘glow-up‘ (body swapping!) - could also have been categorised as make up or break up honestly but glow up felt most appropriate!

Emilymdxn I just finished rereading interview with the vampire I really want to do the whole series now! 12mo
bekakins @Emilymdxn I am re-reading them (plus the Mayfair Witches) extremely slowly after having interview as a team read in Scarathlon 2022! I find I can‘t read them in quick succession as they‘re so dense but really enjoying dipping back into them as an adult (I was OBSESSED as a teen!) 12mo

I can always rely on Rice for an immersive experience. This one is a delight that I never wanted to put down. Be mindful of trigger warnings here though.

Thrift store haul. I've been on the hunt for paperback copies of Anne Rice and Stephen King books for awhile now. They are two of my favorite authors and I have some gaps in my collections of their works. I didn't find any SK this time but I found a ton of AR. I still have about 6 more books for her and a mountain worth of SK lol.

Well, I finally got back to the chronicles...and its only been about 10 years since I read the first 3. I finally have all the books. So, it took 100 pages for her to get to the actual theft and she rambles sometimes. Other than that, it is a MARVELOUS story about the (future) prince Lestat. I give is 4.5 outta 5🍪. #allhailprincelestat

Today‘s goal: finish THE TALE OF THE BODY THIEF. Honestly, I don‘t want to binge read it so much as I want to want to binge read it. I still LIKE it, but 16-Years-Ago Me responded way more strongly to the themes. Current Me is also way more aware of the dodgy bits, like the brushed-off rape scene and the fact a bunch of white guys play hot potato with a brown guy‘s body.

Throwback to my outdoor breakfast. THE TALE OF THE BODY THIEF used to be my absolute favourite book, and I‘m excited to dive back into it. Somehow, it‘s been sixteen years.

Lestat‘s moodswings gave me whiplash in this one🙄 how cruel he can be to the ones he loves most deeply. He also made me laugh a lot in this one, he was his most dramatic brat self. It dragged in a few places but I‘m glad I finished it. Anne Rice is so descriptive and lush, and while it can be overwhelming sometimes, it‘s also what makes her great. Only she can describe body possession in a way that sound utterly plausible lol

annamatopoetry This was the last Rice book I ever read, it was definitely not My Cup of Tea lol 4y
reading_rainbow @annamatopoetry It definitely was not my favorite lol I‘m going to take a break from the vampires and try her Mayfair Witches 4y

I started reading these the first year of high school, started out of ordered, but my favorite is the tagged book (though you can't tell with my copy - I lost my old one in a move and haven't cracked open the new one for a reread yet).

Book 4 of the Vampire Chronicles is chock full of adventure, drama, and Lestat shenanigans. I continue to alternate between being completely charmed by him and wanting someone to punch him in the face, but I think that‘s to be expected. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Love Anne Rice‘s writing style. Also, I still adore poor, depressed, brooding Louis in all his emo-vamp glory, even in small doses. ❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

HOTPock3tt I‘m waiting and waiting for my hold on Anne Rice‘s “the witching hour” to come thru!! 🙏 it actually has a waiting list despite being written like 30 years ago😶 (edited) 6y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt I read that one (and the other Mayfair Witches books) earlier this year! I‘m making my way through all of the Anne Rice I own this year. 😃 6y

Oh Lestat, "The brat prince". So perfect a nickname that you never know whether to wrap your arms around him or punch him square in the face. Even though this installment in no way surpassed the last, it was an interesting little story with a good amount of adventure and drama. Not to mention the usual melancholy sadness that only the great Vampire Lestat can make appealing. Very good for a quick read.

shendrix413 ❤️ Lestat! 7y

#riotgrams Bookish confession. As much as I love Lestat I haven't read all of his books. I stopped at Queen of The Damned. I'm planning on starting again and completing the series very soon. #vampirechronicles #lestat

After a long hard week of dissertation work (~2 weeks left!!) and my dear husband on the overnight shift, I was already planning to spend the evening reading for fun for the first time in a long time. Logged on here to find its #litsypartyofone night - perfection! I'm in with my 34-week preggo belly, junk food craving (I know...), comfy pants, newly pampered toes, and silly puppy.

The descriptions of Lestat experiencing bodily functions as a mortal once again are equal parts fascinating, hilarious, and revolting.

You guys, I am SO SO CLOSE to being done with this dissertation draft. Just another 4-5 weeks, if I am lucky and can stay focused. Baby is due in 8 weeks, here's hoping she doesn't come early. Is it weird that I'm super super excited about all the fun reading I hope to catch up on while breastfeeding at 3am?

britt_brooke I did so much reading during night feedings. It was the only way I could stay awake! Good luck with everything!! (edited) 8y
triskeleseeker @britt_brooke thanks! so glad to hear it - sometimes I wonder if I'm being unrealistic, but aside from a happy healthy baby and a smooth-as-possible transition, reading lots is one of my main hopes for the first few weeks. I guess we'll see 😅 8y
triskeleseeker @britt_brooke (or anybody else, please chime in!) - any recommendations for a good book on breastfeeding 101, preferably one that's not too judgmental? I tend to lean slightly crunchy anyway, but since I have no idea how this whole "having a newborn" thing will work for me, preachy tones turn me off. Any recommendations welcome!! Thanks!! ? 8y

britt_brooke @triskeleseeker I have no recommendations, but I do have a little advice. 😁 Don't put too much pressure on yourself or baby. Breastfeeding is easy for some and hard for others (🙋🏼). Most important thing is that baby gets plenty to eat regardless of where it comes from. Your hospital might have a lactation consultant. They can be very helpful, but can range from open minded to extremely preachy. I've had both. 😉 8y
triskeleseeker @britt_brooke thank you! Wise words indeed. I know I want to give bf-ing my best shot, but since i know it can be difficult, I don't want to feel like a failure if It's hard for me. Hence the request for nonjudgmental books - but I'm starting to think they don't exist! Maybe this is one life scenario where my default setting of "read lots to learn what to expect" may be less helpful, and I'll just have to see what baby is like when she arrives. 8y
britt_brooke @triskeleseeker All you can do is your best. I was very hard on myself. Don't be like me! 😉 8y

#booktober #bookssetinsamerica

I don't have many books set in South America, so I have gone with Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice.

Although only part of this is set in Rio de Janeiro, it is the part of this novel that I most vividly remember. Anne made the places sound so beautiful that I always wanted to visit. Especially for carnival! 💃🏻

One day.

Recommended for fans of The Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. This is book 4 in the Vampire Chronicles. The writing is very descriptive and full of beautiful language. The premise of the story is intriguing. Lestat finds a body thief who can change bodies with him so he can experience being mortal again.

NerdyRev I think this was the last or next to last Lestat books I truly loved. 8y
Zelma @NerdyRev same here. I could even finish the next one, Memnoch the Devil. But the first 4 in the series are fantastic. 8y
bookwrm526 I hated this one the first time I read it, but a few years later I did a reread of the whole series and ended up adoring this one. I think I was a little too young for it the first time, considering the drinking blood as sex metaphor went COMPLETELY over my head the first time I read them. 8y

Bookworm54 This book really made me want to go to Rio! I read all of the vampire chronicles (minus the new one) but the last couple I struggled with! There are some gems in this series though :) 8y
Chrys I read the first four in that series years ago and loved them. I never did get into Memnoch, nice to know I'm not alone in that. She has some real standouts that aren't in this series as well. 8y
ReadingOver50 @bookwrm526 I had the same problem with Interview With The Vampire. I was too young when I first read it and DNF. I tried again a few years later and loved it. 8y
ReadingOver50 @NerdyRev @Zelma @Chrys I agree. The first four are definitely the best of the series 😄 8y
NerdyRev I tried reading most of the extended series too and I don't know, they just weren't inspired. It came to the point I just stopped reading Anne Rice which was a sad day. Now Lestat is going to Atlantis. C'mon. 8y
Lynnsoprano At one time I was a huge Anne Rice fan, but I think I read only one or two past this. Queen of the Damned is still my favorite. 8y
