Mehso-so

I really enjoyed aspects of this & I think increasing the conversation about perimenopause, women aging, etc. is so important. But I think Shields is still coming from an extreme place of privilege. She acknowledges this & I absolutely don‘t fault her for it, but I think many women won‘t quite be able to relate. Yes, we are watching our bodies change, but most of us do not have her resources or have to face the public gaze like she does. Continued

AvidReader25 I think this is valuable reading, but should be read alongside other books on menopause for a balanced view. 4w

My favorite thing about my 3x3 grid is mapping out the back side of my #indexcard stack to determine who gets the tag. Brooke, turns out this one is for you!

5* = Loved It, want to shout out loud about this book! I do/will own/keep a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Avg C

marleed @eeclayton I basically hibernate during Kansas City‘s two Uary months so good books are a must! 2mo
marleed @AvidReader25 I keep thinking about it. I just really liked the delivery of her 5th decade experiences. 2mo
marleed @TheBookHippie I‘m really glad I read this. It wasn‘t an easy read for me but I liked how it centered itself on faith without being current-day American Christian Nationalist. I likely would have skipped the book had it been published post-2016 for fear of that narrative. 2mo
TheBookHippie @marleed #nunlit section and I was wary but like you saw the pub date and figure it was probably okay. I checked the publisher too 😅😂. I think it‘s important to read different faiths than mine as long as it‘s not agenda propaganda this fit that pretty well. 2mo

Pickpick

When I grew up Brooke Shields was America‘s Princess, and I monitored her life through my Seventeen magazines so much that I‘ve been hard-pressed for 40+ years to ignore sightings of her. This is a good and humorous read of a woman who‘s evaluated her life in her 50‘s and realized life lessons for herself on aging, career, marriage, empty-nesting, friendships, health, and more. The mishaps in her hospital procedures are 😳

Ruthiella I idolized Brook Shields as a teenager too and feel like we‘ve grown up together, even though she doesn‘t know me! 😅 2mo

TheLudicReader I recently rewatched Endless Love on…Prime maybe. Hadn‘t seen it in 40 odd years. Didn‘t really hold up…not nearly as good as the book, but she sure was beautiful. I think she is so much more than her physical appearance now, and I have admired her honest take on lots of topics. (edited) 2mo
bookishbitch The documentary called Pretty Baby about and with her was very good too. 2mo
marleed @Ruthiella I‘m not sure what is stranger - that I feel like Brooke and I should meet for Starbucks after all these years. Or that I‘m convinced I‘m such good pals with Elin Hilderbrand‘s fictional Nantucket community that surely any number of households would take me in as a s guest for a summer🤣 2mo
marleed @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @AnnCrystal Well worth the read or in my case, the author listen. 2mo
marleed @TheLudicReader Her experiences and wisened perspective of being an actress and model in her childhood during the 70s and 80 is so important to respecting how new generations of child money-makers are treated/handled. 2mo
marleed @bookishbitchblog I think one of my favorite parts of this book was her discussion of gaining a new bestie in their 50s with Ally Wentworth, and also how valuable the discussions because of that documentary were to her relationships with her grown daughters. 2mo

Since I worked yesterday, today is the first day of my three day weekend. The plan is to stay in as much as possible because it is ridiculously cold outside. The current 'feel like' temp here is -27°. And tomorrow is supposed to be even colder?.
I'm also starting another non-fiction. This time it's Brooke Shields' new book.

ChaoticMissAdventures Ohh no! I have been upset that my current feels like temp is +26. I can't imagine. 2mo
