We Love You, Bunny
We Love You, Bunny | Mona Awad
The highly anticipated follow up to the viral sensation Bunny, a brilliantly written, laugh-out-loud funny, dark, and delirious novel set in the Bunny-verse--a world that Margaret Atwood declared "soooo genius." In the cult classic novel Bunny, Samantha Heather Mackey, a lonely outsider student at a highly selective MFA program in New England, was first ostracized and then seduced by a clique of creepy-sweet rich girls who call themselves "Bunny." An invitation to the Bunnies' Smut Salon leads Samantha down a dark rabbit hole (pun intended) into the violently surreal world of their off-campus workshops where monstrous creations are conjured with deadly and wondrous consequences. When We Love You, Bunny opens, Sam has just published her first novel to critical acclaim. But at a New England stop on her book tour, her one-time frenemies, furious at the way they've been portrayed, kidnap her. Now a captive audience, it's her (and our) turn to hear the Bunnies' side of the story. One by one, they take turns holding the axe, and recount the birth throes of their unholy alliance, their discovery of their unusual creative powers--and the phantasmagoric adventure of conjuring their first creation. With a bound and gagged Sam, we embark on a wickedly intoxicating journey into the heart of dark academia: a fairy tale slasher that explores the wonder and horror of creation itself. Not to mention the transformative powers of love and friendship, Bunny. Frankenstein by way of Heathers, We Love You, Bunny is both a prequel and a sequel, and an unabashedly wild and totally complete stand-alone novel. Open your hearts, Bunny, to another dazzlingly original and darkly hilarious romp in the Bunny-verse from the queen of the fever-dream, Mona Awad.

Mehso-so

I‘m going to get judged for this because she has a massive following and it has an 87% here but… yawn.

I don‘t typically like campy style writing but in the first book (which I did love), the style had a big payoff for me and when I finished it, I was left with great admiration for what she accomplished. not so with this “sequel.” too long, too much, and while I found some moments clever, I spent the latter half wishing it was over. 😬

TheBookHippie I bailed if that helps. 🤣 1d
JenP @TheBookHippie it does 😂😂 1d
Ruthiella I‘ve heard from others who loved Bunny that this sequel was dissatisfied/not necessary. I‘m still on the fence about reading it. 1d

BarbaraBB I don‘t think I‘ll read it! 1d
squirrelbrain I don‘t think I‘ll read it either. I didn‘t really like the first book and this one is looong as well. 😬 1d
TheKidUpstairs I loved Bunny, but have felt no need to read this one. Some books just don't need a sequel! 1d
Aconight Same! Won‘t be reading which is unfortunate to hear it was a disappointment when I enjoyed the first. 19h

My MUST reads from my physical TBR for 2026!!

Starting with We Love You, Bunny 🐰🩷(of course)

Any suggestions what I should pick next? Thinking “Play Nice” or “No Rest for the Wicked”🐈‍⬛

Then I‘ll move into the pile of ARCs I should have read already😂

*top one is The Resurrectionist”💀

PS. Any GMM fans here?🔥🐔

It took me a minute to get into this sequel to Bunny, which kicks off with the four magical mean girls forcing Sam to hear their sides of the story. It really picked up once their first creation, Aerius, takes over the narration, by turns tragic and hilarious, filled with romance and “violences.“ On a mission he doesn't understand, accompanied only by a plastic pony and his ax, he is a work in progress seeking freedom from authorial intent.

This is a long, meta meditation on the corrupting effect on artist and art when the focus is too much on outcome and not enough on process. Although I loved Bunny, I don't think I would have finished this very long follow-up without narrator Sophie Amoss guiding me through. Did I mention that the novel is long? Because it totally is, Bunny. It's worth it, but it would have been more worth it had it been a little shorter.

Was I initially skeptical? Yes. Is it too long? For sure. Does it stretch a metaphor past its breaking point? Absolutely. Did I still get sucked into this wacky, witchy, saccharine, violent, weirdo world again? I did. In fact, I kinda loved it Bunny!
(No bunny was available to pose so here is Sweet Potato/Tornado instead.)

I can't decide if this is bad or so bad it's good? It's like Awad is writing her own fanfic.

#Read2025

I enjoyed Bunny 4 years ago even though I wasn‘t sure what I read & thought that “the book might be mocking me for not being as smart as it.” (I don‘t know, that‘s what I wrote.🤷🏻‍♀️) Anyway, I thought I‘d like this prequel/sequel, but I really didn‘t. I felt like what seemed effortlessly quirky in Bunny seemed like trying too hard to be quirky here. Also why did it need to be so long?! Anyway, I finished & it was a pan for me.🐰🪓⬇️

DebinHawaii … It did fill a dark academia title for me in a Kindle challenge, so points for that. 3mo
BarbaraBB I felt the same about Bunny some years ago and don‘t feel tempted to deal with those girls again. Thanks for your review 🐰 3mo
Soubhiville I‘ll probably do this on audio if my library gets it, out of curiosity. Thanks for your review! 3mo

We Love You, Bunny (Bunny 2), by Mona Awad (2025 🇨🇦)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Premise: The members of a campus cult kidnap the author of a novel exposing their disturbing activities, in order to set the record straight.

Review: Awad‘s 2019 title Bunny was an absolute phenomenon, so I was intrigued to pick up this sequel/prequel, which goes even deeper in its send-up of higher education, the arts, and toxic female friendship. ⬇️

Mattsbookaday Overall, it was a huge success: This is the best kind of satire, both disturbingly real and uproariously funny. Unfortunately, it was about twice as long as it needed to be, and I grew exhausted by its aggressive voiciness—what would have been brilliant for 250 pages was too much for me at 500. That said, I could see it winning the Giller, and I wouldn‘t be mad about it. 3mo

I‘m 8 days post (human) spay, and I‘m doing pretty well! I‘m still not quite well enough to drive, but I‘m off pain meds and taking it easy.

I treated myself to 3 books - the BN exclusive of We Love You Bunny, which I just started, plus a signed Lockwood and the new Kim Hooper.

I‘m just now able to concentrate well on reading. I‘ve reread a couple of favorites on audio, but started my first new listen with Mary Roach‘s latest! ⬇️

TheBookHippie Oh I‘m so happy to see this. I hope you continue to heal. 💙 3mo

Had the privilege of meeting Mona Awad tonight at the B&N Poured Over podcast taping. Looking forward to hearing the final product bc audience questions were sourced & asked separately afterward. I submitted a question about the status of a potential ‘Bunny‘ movie or TV show…

One of my favorites for variety of reasons. She mentioned she‘s begun work on a new project: a take on ‘Twelfth Night‘ (a la other novel ‘All‘s Well‘). 💖

What a ride. Mona Awad‘s title as Queen of the Dark Comedy Fever Dream holds strong for another novel.

Admittedly, I was a little wobbly in the first half, I‘m so glad I held on & trusted the process so to speak for the conclusion. I will say if you haven‘t read or didn‘t love Bunny, this one definitely isn‘t for you (unless, like, you really love Frankenstein stories? 🙃). Dark, weird, funny, unsettling. It‘s Awad. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Melismatic Im attending a podcast taping with the author soon, looking forward to hearing her thoughts. My thanks to NetGalley & Simon Element for this early ARC - what a treat! 4mo

I so appreciate #netgalley giving me early access to this prequel by one of my favourite favourite authors. I LOVE Bunny and wasn‘t sure it needed a prequel - the work speaks for itself. For the first third of the book - when the Bunnies tell their side of the story - I thought my suspicions were true. Once Aerius (the OG himbo bunny) starts telling his story, I was hooked back in. Not as comfortable with dark ambiguity as its predecessor still 👍

monalyisha I was so excited for this but I've been putting it off because I think I've forgotten everything I learned in the first book. Do you think I need to reread before diving in? 3mo
