First book finished for #scarathlon!
#skeletoncrew @Emilymdxn

This book is a pick mainly because I have very fond memories of reading it as a child, and I still have my old battered copy that I'd gotten from a monthly Scholastic order. The writing is a bit uneven, but it's a good sci-fi adventure story with some heartwarming moments.

dabbe I loved this movie when I was a kid! 🤩🤩🤩 6mo
kwmg40 @Ruthiella @Andrew65 @Librarybelle @bthegood @dabbe I hadn't realized that this movie had been so popular. The funny thing is that, though I'd read the book several times as a child, I don't recall watching the movie! 6mo
kwmg40 @Emilymdxn Indeed! I confess that I specifically chose a short book as my first one, so that I could post a review on day 1. 😁 6mo

Andrew65 @kwmg40 You‘ll have to see if you can find somewhere to see the film. 6mo

East of Desolation | Jack Higgins

As I continue with my #CenturyReadingChallenge I am starting this book by Jack Higgins, a standalone, published in #1968
Still got 22 years to read before the end of the year, a.though close to finishing an audiobook which will take it down to 21. Determined to do this by the end of the year.
This book takes in Greenland fir anyone doing a countries challenge.

megnews I like the idea of a #CenturyReadingChallenge. Is it books published or set in the year? 4y
Andrew65 @megnews We‘ve been reading 1 book published every year over the past 100 years, from 1920 - 2019. Been great fun and got to some great books not read before. (edited) 4y
Scochrane26 This is a cool project. 4y

Andrew65 @Scochrane26 I‘ve really enjoyed it and now completed 79 of the 100 years, finished one this morning. Enjoyed researching different books and authors from these years. @megnews 4y
Andrew65 If you want to check my books Read so far you can see them on this Librarything page. @megnews @Scochrane26 http://www.librarything.com/topic/303742 (edited) 4y
Scochrane26 @Andrew65 i knew there was one you should read from my birth yr, 1976, so I looked it up. If you haven‘t read it, A River runs Through It, would be a short & excellent book. 4y
Andrew65 @Scochrane26 Thanks for the recommendation, I will check it out. 😊 4y
EadieB I‘ve got many more to go and will continue through 2020. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB I‘ve really accelerated and improved my focus on these over the last month. You know me when I focus on something, amazing what you can achieve. Read 16 in the last 17 days to go from 64/100 to 80/100 and a quarter of my way through roots. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Oh my goodness! You are a real reading machine! 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Now hoping to finish this year. 20 more to read in 44 days. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Helps that a lot of the older ones tend to be shorter books. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 That is very doable. I have at least chosen my Christmas reads to coincide with the century reads. 4y

An excellent story set against the backdrop of Czechoslovakia‘s ‘dangerous‘ experiment with liberalism in 1968, and the growing anxiety in the rest of the Warsaw Pact countries. Mehso-so

My last finish of the year (probably), and #1001books #190/1305. This novel takes place in 1950s-era Ukraine, and supposedly has a lot of wordplay in the original that didn‘t come through in translation. Bummer. It an interesting look at a very polluted steel town that is proud of its Cossack heritage. #192019 #1968

Liz_M Huh. This is a title that I never recognize as part of the list. Sounds like I shouldn't make too much of an effort to track it down. 6y

What a treat! This is a funny, heartfelt, beautifully written tale that truly deserves to be called a classic. Donna Tartt‘s pitch perfect narration made it even better. #BirthdayChallenge #1968

Suelizbeth I loved reading this book. It‘s quirky. Interestingly, I just finished Donna Tartt's The Secret History, which I loved. I would love to her narration of True Grit. I may have to spend a point on Audible. 7y
rubyslippersreads I can't help wishing Kim Darby were the narrator. 😊 7y
KathyWheeler I truly did not expect it to be so funny. (edited) 7y

KVanRead @Suelizbeth It‘s totally worth it. It also includes an afterword by her that‘s also quite enjoyable. 7y
KVanRead @rubyslippersreads It‘s been so long since I saw the first movie I‘m not even totally sure I really saw it or just think I did. 😂 I need to find time to do a double feature of both films soon. 7y
KVanRead @KathyWheeler Yes and that‘s one of the best things about it. So deadpan. 7y
