I‘m still reading The Trees (so good) by this author but getting close to the end so I‘ve checked out two more of his books from Libby. I may like Trees better than James, which I read last year. What an author!! #authoramonth @Soubhiville
This was a quick, interesting read. Clavin did his best to separate the man from the many myths about him. I found it most interesting to learn how quickly the west and country as a whole had changed over Hickok‘s 39 years. Hickok had a bold style of dispensing the law that had become outdated by his death. I‘d love if there had been more insight into the man himself, but I get the vibe he wasn‘t much for sharing his feelings.

This book tells the story of how white Americans drove the buffalo to the brink of extinction then a few individuals helped save enough animals to allow the species to survive. It‘s well done with interviews from many sources, including Native voices. It has many illustrations, which I appreciated. Apparently there‘s an associated documentary if you want to check that out.
Epic storytelling
15/100 I guess I've watched too many westerns, because I found this kind of dry. The Dalton Gang was one of the last big outlaw gangs before the beginning of the 20th century, and their exploits are well know and often overly fictionalized. I don't know why, but I found the lawmen more interesting than the outlaws. 3 ⭐⭐⭐

You can love someone while also being so wrong about them, failing to see them in their fullest self because your own misshapen expectations dampen their light. Susan was forever doubting her husband, forever wishing he‘d be more talkative and more genteel. In doing so, she appeared the biggest fool for not seeing all that she had. Oliver repaid the unintentional slight by watching her survive but never changing course enough to let her thrive.
Finally got my date for my second mastectomy booked. When I was filling out my paperwork at the start of my cancer treatments in September 2021, I filled out some paperwork in regard to doing genetic testing. I did the testing after finishing my chemo treatments for my breast cancer and subsequently found out that I did have a genetic mutation that made me more susceptible to developing breast cancer.
