Hoppin' John black eyed peas after an overnight soak. Yes, there is beauty in those black eyes looking up at me! Hoppin‘ John & collard greens accompany our New Year‘s Day dinner, a sign of luck in the coming year. A tradition passed down from my husband‘s New Orleans born & bred mother.

We had food and games with friends and family last night. I am the only one up this morning, although I can hear the neighbours 🙄 I am having some quiet time, reading the tagged book and catching up on social media, before a 4-year old wakes up and asks for attention 😁
