A hundred+ pages in and I am starting to understand why this is such a mega chunkster. Nothing has actually happened yet except that I have been (masterfully) introduced to a dozen oddball characters. And I wouldn't cut a single paragraph.

Tamra Isn‘t that the truth?! Amazing characters. 10mo
AmyG One of my favorite books. Unforgettable. 10mo

I‘m all set for a night home alone, and I‘m hoping to finish this book tonight. My enjoyment level is pretty high since the introduction of Margarita and the change of pace in the story. It is still pretty weird, though 😄👌

CaroPi I think I said before but is one of my favorite books ever. I am glad you like it! (edited) 6y

Kalalalatja @CaroPi it really is something else! 👌 @Mommamanzi well yes we can! 😄 it is sour “soda bottles” and salty licourice fish 👌 @Sorceryandswords I love these bookmarks from Obvious State 😍 @Cathythoughts I am 😄👏 6y
MicheleinPhilly Gimme that candy! 6y
Linear Whats in the pot it looks like gummies and cat treats >_> 6y
Leniverse OMG torture me with your salty liquorice treats, why don‘t you. 🤤 I want some. 😋 6y
Sophoclessweetheart They‘re gorgeous! You also made me crave sweets x 6y
Kalalalatja @MicheleinPhilly @Leniverse @Sorceryandswords I wish I had enough to share but “someone” might have eaten it all already 😳😄 @Linear it is sour gummies and salty licourice fish 👌 6y
MicheleinPhilly I have about 10 pieces left that I‘m rationing like a deserted island dweller. 6y

This is definitely one of the weirder books I have read this year, if not ever, but I‘m pretty sure I like it 😄😄

Bookgirl I‘ve been reading this book for years haha 6y
ephemeralwaltz Oooh I've been meaning to get to this one! 6y
emilyhaldi Yay!! 🙏🏻 sometimes weird is good 6y

Kalalalatja @Bookgirl lol! What‘s stopping you? 😊 @ephemeralwaltz I think you‘ll like this one! 👍 @emilyhaldi I‘m a fan of weird, but it always takes a while for me to get into the weirdness 😄 6y
Bookgirl @Kalalalatja I was trying to read it on the serial reader app. Started and stopped multiple times. Finally gave up and recently bought the book. Now I just need to get to it - I have three stacks in my nightstand!! 6y
minkyb I remember loving this but it‘s been 40 years since I read it 😂 6y
Kalalalatja @Bookgirl I know that feeling! 😅 hope you‘ll like it when you get to it 🤞 6y

Pickpick

*incoherent squeals and sounds*

This was amazing! Great! Wonderful! Fun! All the adjectives! I don‘t know why I waited so long to read this, but I‘m so glad I finally got to it, since it is just my kind of book. Now I just need to get my hand on the sequel, and somehow get Mr. Rothfuss to hurry up and finish the third book!

#chunkstersummer

InBooksILive I got this one as well and for some reason I've been waiting to read it too, but I think I may get to it after I finish up what I'm reading now. 6y
Soubhiville So good!!! It‘s one of my favorites. 6y
Oryx Love this! And you have the beautiful anniversary edition 😍 6y

staciec I'm about halfway through this right now! I'd borrowed it 3 times from the library previously but never actually read it. Now that I'm into it, I'm loving it! 6y
Utopiyll 😭😭 I am so upset because I can never get past the first 5 chapters. I've tried 10 times and they haven't been able to leave the bar, not even once! How far in should I persevere before you think it'll start catching my interest? 💔 6y
AMVP @Utopiyll the story proper picks up in chapter 7, everything before is for framing; the inciting incident comes in chapter 16. All told, you're probably looking at 100+ pages. 6y
Kalalalatja @Utopiyll like @AMVP said, the bar is the frame. They never leave it, technically, since the real story is Kvothe telling his life‘s story to another. But it really does pick up! In my edition, Kvothe begins to tell his story around page 57. But it is a slower fantasy book than others, and it might just not be for you. Don‘t feel bad about that! 6y
Kalalalatja @InBooksILive I have wanted to read it since I got it, but I kept waiting for “the right time”. Turns out, the right time is probably anytime you pick it up 😄 6y
Kalalalatja @Soubhiville @Oryx it was amazing! And definitely one of my faves now as well 👌 @staciec Woohoo! Hope you enjoy the rest of it too! 6y
Andrew65 I loved this too and the follow up. Just need the third! 6y
Kalalalatja I just remembered that this was supposed to be my #setatschool book for #booked2018, since most of it takes place at Magic University 👍 @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft 6y
Cinfhen Awesome 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 glad u loved it!,!,,Would I HATE IT?!!!? (edited) 6y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen it isn‘t YA, even though the MC is a teenager for most of it. But it is a pretty elaborate fantasy world, and quite the chunkster. It is beautifully written, imo, so there is a chance you might like it, but I think it is a small chance 🤔🤷‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen Hahaha!!! You lost me at chunkster 😘😘😘😘 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great pick for this prompt!! 👏🏻👏🏻 6y

Midnight's Children | Salman Rushdie

Mehso-so

Well, this was an epic tale, alright. And, it was a but too much for me. Especially the last 200 pages ruined what the first 350 pages had begun to kindle in me. Rushdie‘s humour was unexpected, but very welcome, although his writing left me in confusion as often as it left me in awe. Can you tell I‘m in two minds about this book?

#ChunksterSummer

Cinfhen I‘m hoping all be up for the King book by the weekend, does that timing work for you? 6y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen that‘s perfect for me 👌 6y

First book down from my #ChunksterSummer stack. I always enjoy immersing myself in the world of the Frasers, but every time I do I‘m reminded of some of the more problematic ways and tropes Gabaldon uses to tell her story. It isn‘t great, but I can‘t stop reading them 🤷‍♀️

julesG You've tanned nicely! 6y
laundry_piles I agree. I'm on book four but I haven't picked it up yet. Nice tan! 6y
Cinfhen I was also going to remark on your golden color 👌🏽💛🧡 6y

Kalalalatja @julesG @laundry_piles @Cinfhen I‘m a bit surprised myself, I normally burn a bit, but I have been vigilant with the sun screen 😅 6y
Cinfhen Is the beach sand or rocks?? 6y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen it is rocks, and not that pleasant. But they only extend a bit into the water and then it is sand 👍 6y
Cinfhen Is all of Crete like that??? I don‘t like rocks, either 😔 6y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I think maybe the South side is sand. Elafonisi is supposed to be one of the best beaches of Crete, and that is sand 👍 6y
Cinfhen Thanks!!! I‘ll store all the info u shared 😘😘 6y
TrishB Agreed 👍🏻 I keep reading too... 6y

Please pray for me. I decided on a whim to start this today, thanks to @Kalalalatja and her #chunkstersummer post. At over one thousand pages, I may not make it out alive. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Gissy You can do it! Go Girl! 📖💪 6y
Cinfhen Your new photo avatar threw me for a sec!! (Cute) I used to LOVE Follett!!! He‘s such a great historian!!! 6y
Reviewsbylola Omg yes!! I can barely hold the damn thing and I was shocked to think people may actually have to read this in hardback!! @MicheleinPhilly @Kalalalatja 6y
MicheleinPhilly I bought Fall of Giants and the next one in hardback for some idiotic reason. I‘m afraid of them. 6y
Reviewsbylola I understand! This has been staring me down and I feel like I just need to tackle it! @MicheleinPhilly 6y
MicheleinPhilly I had to clean out my office yesterday because I‘m a remote employee and we‘re out of offices. I had to lug my Ken Follett books home. I‘m going to take a picture of these beasts. 6y
