I recently found a treasure trove of free books online (will add link in comments) and I have spent the last few days downloading every Sweet Valley book they had. I decided to read through the SV Kids series along with my SVT read-through and SV Senior Year. Yes, I am a nerd but I‘ve never read this series and I love the feeling of nostalgia I get when I read any Sweet Valley book. 🤓 I fully credit Sweet Valley books for my love of reading. ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Thank you, Francine Pascal! Anyhoo, book one of SV Kids finds Jess and Liz in 2nd grade preparing for their 7th birthday party. Lots of familiar faces here with their later personalities on display even here in elementary school. I‘m looking forward to this read-through. 4⭐️ #SweetValley #SweetValleyKids #SVK #twins #nostalgia 👯‍♀️ 4mo

Thanks, @Kar2b for my first birthday card! As a gift to myself, I‘ve decided to dive into nostalgia and re-read the entire Sweet Valley series! The last time I decided to do this, I fell off at 31 in the SVK series, so hopefully this time I make it through more— especially since I‘ve been collecting the ones that I didn‘t have so I am in for some new reads too! This seventh birthday is fun—& the chocolate cake with marshmallow icing sounds yummy!

Ruthiella Happy birthday! 🥳🥳🥳 9mo

Kar2b My cousins had the Sweet Valley High series, so I always borrowed their books to read them. Happy Birthday! 8mo
TorieStorieS @Kar2b Thanks!! Some of my SVH books are hand-me-downs from my cousin, actually! 🤣 8mo
JenlovesJT47 I just finally finished my read through of the entire SVH series last year and now I‘m on to SVH Senior Year. I‘ve only read a couple of the SVK books when I was younger but I might give them a whirl. Have you read any of the new SVT graphic novels? I am really enjoying them so far. ❤️ 5mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I‘m still missing #45 of the senior year series— hopefully by the time I get there, I‘ll have tracked it down! I have been collecting the new graphic novels but haven‘t read them yet…. I will probably read them after reading the regular SVT books! I‘m glad to hear good things about them! I was a little nervous considering how awful the Sweet Valley Confidential book was! 5mo
JenlovesJT47 I own the SVHSY series up to book 35 plus the last one, 48, so I‘ll have to track the rest of them down also once I get to that point. I‘ll keep an eye out for both of us! The graphic novels are good. I really enjoy the artwork and they do a good job of modernizing it without drastically changing the storyline or characters. Yeah, SV Confidential was SO bad but I love the Sweet Life series that takes place after it. Not Pulitzer material for ⬇️ 5mo
JenlovesJT47 Sure but a fun an enjoyable read. I‘ll let you know if I come across #45! 🤓 5mo
JenlovesJT47 Geez I just looked it up and the cheapest you can find it is $45! Kicking myself for not continuing to buy the series when they were still coming out. (edited) 5mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I really liked the Sweet Life, too! I stayed up until midnight on the release days to read them on my kindle, hahaha! 5mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 And I know!! I can‘t bring myself to pay $45 for a book that originally cost like $3!! The real craziest prices are for the last books of The Unicorn Club series! I think the last one is going for $160!! I‘m missing 20-23! I will keep an eye out for the end of the SVHSY series for you, too! I have gotten lucky at the used bookstore by my mom‘s house and occasionally at our local Half Price Books! 5mo
JenlovesJT47 Wow that‘s crazy. I have most of the Unicorn Club books, can‘t remember off the top of my head which ones I‘m missing, but I‘ll keep an eye out! There are a couple of used bookstores close by and I might hit them up this weekend. 5mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I have a dentist appointment not too far from the bookstore this afternoon! I‘ll pop in there on my way home! 5mo

A bit of monster hunting fun. As with the first I read in this series, I appreciate the blend of illustration and text, especially when the text placement interacts with the illustrations, but something feels very generic/corner cutting about the illustration style, and I remain biased against gray-scale when the cover is in full colour.

This RF, The Author Visit book is one of the many great black lagoon series. It‘s perfect to own because it provides different topics that students go through and reimagine what could happen. This book in specific is about Hubie imagining how the guest author will be like. To then come to find out that it's nothing like he thought it would be. Love the creativity it allows readers to have. Students not only can relate to it but also learn from it.

ztorres Teaching Strategy: RA- Teachers can read the book on a specific day student is learning about an author or an author is coming to visit their class. The teacher can also allow students to do a compare and contrast about the story and their experience with the author. 4y
ztorres UDL‘s strategies: Develop self-assessment and reflection and highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. 4y

ztorres ESOL Strategies: Encourage self-talk(positive thinking), use preview/review activities, and use Venn diagrams to contrast and compare activities. 4y
ztorres For this specific book, there were not many resources. I was able to find this website which provided a few activities for pre-K-2 and 3-5. I wish they were more in-depth, but still, it's some good resources that can be used. 4y
Ericaj Nice post. I seen this series before, but I never read it. The website you implement looks fun to do in the classroom. I will be reading this book soon:) 4y
Nrossi This is a series I definitely would like to read and have in my classroom! It‘s always looked interesting but then I just forget about them somehow. Looks like a fun activity to do as well! 4y
DrSpalding RIF is a high-quality resource. Read aloud is a good teaching strategy and your extension activity directly aligns with the English learner strategy you noted. Well done. You still need to be sure to add the decimals and numerals related to the universal design principles and English learner strategies. 4y

Here‘s my final wrap-up for February including my #BookSpinBingo. I finished 9 books and 2 more sections as designated on the board. I also got one bingo!

#ReadingStats #MonthlyStats

Daisey #BFC21 Update: I managed to keep up with my daily 10,000 step goal for the month and daily devotional reading. I did not complete 10 books, but I‘m fine with that as I‘m in the middle of some long ones. I plan to continue the same goals for March. @wanderinglynn 4y

I joined the mg and ya buddy reads to help me with @LibrarianRyan ‘s challenge too. But these books have been great to read and I‘m so glad to be mixing up my books with all ages. I loved this book- but cried quite a bit. #blackhistorymonth #mgbuddyread this is a great springboard for discussion and history with characters I loved.

LibrarianRyan I just got my library copy. Now I just have to find time to read it. 4y
TheBookHippie It is so good! I love the choices this year so far ...well every year 💕💕 4y

This is a sweet MG story set in the South just after WWII. The tone & subject are handled well—not downplaying the reality of prejudice in the Jim Crow South, but also not delving into aspects that could be too heavy/graphic for an MG reader. I enjoyed seeing Gabriel become more aware of prejudice & injustice, as he learns to stand against it in the ways he can. The ending was a little too convenient, but still—a great #MGBuddyRead pick!

j.rye I love this cover! 4y

megnews @sblbooks thanks for joining in! 4y
megnews For my final thought I will say it‘s confusing to me how people can read something like this & be empathetic but not empathetic to people still living through racism today. My grandpa was a wwii vet & if we were black & he was treated like this I‘d feel differently about America. I believe that‘s justified. I‘m confused when people don‘t understand that people have experienced America differently and therefore it means different things to each. 4y
ravenlee I hadn‘t heard of this book before, so I‘m very glad to have this chance to read and discuss it. 4y
JaclynW I had never heard of this book before you announced it. I was so pleased to have read it. I am passing this one on to my younger daughter to read and I have told several teachers and the librarian at our elementary that it is a must read. Perfect for this month. Thank you!!!! 4y
megnews @JaclynW wow! I‘m glad you liked it so much. I hope your daughter does too. 4y
Lmstraubie Thank @megnews for another great pick. I hadn't heard of this book before and am so glad I had the opportunity to read it (the audio book was well done). I still can't wrap my head around all the Lucas's that still exist today. 4y
Bookgoil I read this late again but I just loved this story and I‘m reading some other books right now like it and it just shows really the deep rooted race issue is in America and how different view points are. I liked the lens this book was taken from. I really enjoyed the audio. (edited) 4y
SaturnDoo Thanks for hosting @megnews although I was behind in reading. I've recently read several MG books dealing with a variety prejudices but probably enjoyed this one more than any other. If you haven't read it already, and really enjoyed this one I would like to recommend 4y
megnews @Bookgoil I heard the audio was good. 4y
megnews @SaturnDoo I recently came across that one and put it on my tbr. Glad to hear it‘s good. Maybe I‘ll read it for #MGMarch. 4y
JaclynW @Lmstraubie I'm right there with you about the Lucas's still around today. Very deep rooted issues in our country. 4y
JaclynW @SaturnDoo That book looks good too! 4y
