I finished this book with breakfast this morning. As with many of these incomplete works by Tolkien, it‘s a combination of fascinating and frustrating. They always leaving you wanting to know and be able to read more. I‘m so grateful to Christopher for putting the work into sharing this, but I only recommend it to serious fans of Tolkien‘s writing process or readers interested in various versions and retellings of the King Arthur legend.

Sunday morning book and breakfast

This is the essay I‘m the most intrigued to read, but I also expect to be frustrated by wanting more. After reading several of Tolkien‘s incomplete works, I know kind of what to expect. This includes commentary about Tolkien‘s nearly indecipherable notes and just enough detail to make you want to know more when it‘s impossible.

The Fall of Arthur | J.R.R. Tolkien

Happy Sunday! My goal this week is to read a canto daily, but I‘m not sure I‘ll manage it consistently. Whether or not I get to post during the week, I‘m happy to be back to some Sunday mornings with Tolkien. I don‘t consider myself much of a poetry fan, but I love this alliterative style of narrative poem. The language is beautiful.

JazzFeathers You know? I was a fan of Arthurian legends before l was a Tolkien fan. When l was a teenager, l read both sours materials and many retellings. Yet, it's been a long time. It'll be fun to read something that gets these two passions of mine together 😊 1mo

BarbaraJean I treated myself to the Centenary edition this year and am so glad I did! I loved the illustrations last year but they're even better in this larger edition. And I'm loving all the commentary that the North Polar Bear adds along the way!! 3mo

I finished rereading Sir Orfeo this morning with breakfast. I enjoyed this poem and as before I noted some similarities to the story of Aragorn as a king returning to his land as a man out of the wild and unrecognized.

I haven‘t had much actual reading time lately, so I caught up yesterday on audio while I took my beagle Luthien for a long rambling walk. “Of the Flight of the Noldor” is heartbreaking to me every time, but it‘s also an amazing story.

This morning I read “Of the Sindar” with breakfast. Here we learn more about Thingol & Melian and meet their daughter Luthien.
