A good not great mystery. Lots of red herrings, two of my favorite settings (Oxford & Edinburgh) but too much of a lackluster main character for me to be completely invested.

Two #BOTM books I still haven‘t gotten to reading. One of my major 2019 goals is to get completely caught up on my #BOTM backlog.

Reminiscent of The People of the Book, Girl in Hyacinth Blue traces the history of a painting of mysterious origin from the current owner back through time from owner to owner until you reach the original artist. I love a book like this.

Not by a woman but ABOUT an amazing woman: Lily Elbe ❤️ HOWEVER, I have to say I was not a fan of this book after seeing the movie first. The movie is SO SO lovely but I didn't feel the same from the story told in the novel; it was slow and not inspiring. The cast really bring these characters to life - do yourself a favor and just watch the movie.

Weaponxgirl Will do! Haven't watched the movie yet. 6y
Kalalalatja I hated this book... 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Kalalalatja Glad to know I'm not the only one - the treatment of Greta in the movie and the novel really differs. I liked seeing her voice and story more positively portrayed in the movie! 6y

Kalalalatja I haven‘t seen the movie, so I can‘t compare the two, but I was just so mad about how the author took two so interesting and inspiring women, and made them dull and unrelatable. The real life Lily and Greta sound like amazing ladies! 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Kalalalatja right?? They do sound so amazing!! I recommend the movie. I think it captures not only their livelihood but the lovely relationship they had - that kind of love and suport is hard to find! 6y
Kalalalatja Good to know! I just got mad at the movie, because I heard they didn‘t film the nature scenes in Denmark because the Danish nature weren‘t “Hollywood” enough 🙄🙄 but maybe it is time to give it a chance 😄 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Kalalalatja oh I had no idea!! What the heck - how absurd. 6y
Kalalalatja @ephemeralwaltz yeah, I remember something about the scenes from Lily/Einar‘s home town being taped somewhere else, because the producers wanted mountains, and if it is one thing Denmark doesn‘t have, it is mountains 🙄 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Kalalalatja 🙄🙄🙄 well this just all sounds plain sloppy now. Shame on them! 6y

So I own the novel, but have too many others ahead of it on my TBR, so I felt like I would never get to it. The graphic novel seemed do-able though given how much less of a time commitment it would be. Clearly got less info than you would by reading the novel, but I still was sucked into the plot and definitely want to continue reading the series is graphic form. #girlinthetitle #lgbtqrelationship #litsy2017readingchallenge
