September is here #AuthorAMonth readers, which brings us to Kurt Vonnegut.

I‘ve only read Slaughterhouse Five. Feel free to comment your favorite titles by him or what you plan to read. I know I already asked in my last post (which you can see by going to this book title.)

As always let me know if you‘d like to be added or removed from the tag list. Happy reading!

BarkingMadRead I‘ve never read him, I have Slaughterhouse Five on my stack 1h
vlwelser I love him so much. I have an old Player Piano that I never was in the mood for. Hoping to get it out of TBR land. 1h
Sace 🤦‍♀️oh geez. I listened to his graduation speeches yesterday thinking he was the August author. Clearly I‘ve lost all sense of time. The good news is I enjoyed it so I ordered copies of Cat‘s Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five so I can read him again this month. 47m

#Read2025

Finished this one earlier in the week, my second for August‘s #AuthorAMonth #JudyBlume. The library audiobook became free & so I listened to it & really enjoyed the reread. I must have read this book a bazillion times growing up & it all came back. Perfectly captures growing up in the late 70s-early 80s for me & all those things—bras, periods, boys & friendships & all the questions & angst they bring.

Hello #AuthorAMonth readers! Can you believe we‘re almost to the end of another month? Just a few more days with Judy Blume. If you haven‘t yet you may want to check out the biopic of her on Prime, it‘s excellent!

For September we‘ll be reading Kurt Vonnegut. Any recommendations?

TheBookHippie Oy. I prefer his short stories, plays and letters. I think everything he writes makes you think. I know ….non answer… 6d
ChaoticMissAdventures I don't do Author of the Month, but I love seeing everyone's posts and Vonnegut is one of my all time favorites hope it is ok if I give some recs? Slaughterhouse is a must (I have a tattoo) Sirens of Titans is lesser known but a hidden gem, loved Cats Cradle, and for non-fiction readers I love this one of graduation speeches. 6d
Texreader Lots of free audiobooks with an Audible subscription are available 5d
TheBookHippie @ChaoticMissAdventures I second Sirens of Titans 5d
Soubhiville Thanks @ChaoticMissAdventures that‘s very helpful! 5d

Bookwormjillk I'm doing Slaughterhouse Five - haven't read it since high school and it fits with one of my blank spots for #192025 5d
PurpleyPumpkin @Texreader Thanks for the heads-up about Audible. They provide many options!👍🏽 5d

#Read2025

Reread for #AuthorAMonth August #JudyBlume TBH, I wanted to reread Are You There God, It‘s Me, Margaret, especially since this one is the #ChildrensClassicRead2025 pick for September, but I‘m cheap & this one was available from the library in Ebook or audio, so I went ahead with it. It‘s also my #Roll100 pick for August (#41 Any Reread.) It all came back to me while listening & I cringed & winced my way through, being mad & annoyed ⬇️

DebinHawaii …at Jill & her parents & teachers. I was never bullied or the bully in school but this certainly brought back memories of seeing it happen & Blume captured it well. I liked the interview at the end of the audiobook where Blume explained why she wrote it & it was a quick & easy listen. I‘m still shooting for a AYTGIMM reread at some point. 1w

Judy Blume was an eighth grader in Elizabeth, New Jersey, when 3 airplanes crashed into her town over the course of 2 months. In this book, she tells a fictionalized version of the residents living (& some dying) in these unfathomable events. She conveys the very traumatic experience for young adults and teenagers. while told from a young teenager‘s perspective, it is an adult novel. At the end of each chapter, she includes narrative from the ⬇️

Texreader Elizabeth newspaper, sometimes about the crashes, and more often news of the world. This puts the reader into a deeper perspective of how this affected the town. I found the story very well written, and hard to put down. It felt important to know how everyone coped and how it affected their lives. Definitely recommended. #authoramonth 2w

I enjoyed Blume as a child but at some point started feeling very put off by her books. This was no exception. Way too many inner monologues by very skeezy people.

I‘ve been looking forward to this #authoramonth all year. This was a childhood fave. To read it as an adult and all the knowledge that comes with being an adult gave it an added slightly darker layer.

Sace @TheBookHippie I always loved the grandma. As a child I don‘t think I realized the grief she must have been suffering but she never let the children see it. 2w
TheBookHippie @Sace I agree. Mine was the same. 2w

Deenie | Judy Blume

Such nostalgia in this book. I remember reading it around 7th grade and feeling like the worst thing that could happen to me in school was scoliosis. Those were the days. This book is obviously very dated but Judy Blume talks about accepting people with differences in a way that doesn‘t hammer you over the head with it and that‘s what makes her great. Deenie‘s mom and her obsession with modeling also reminded me of modern day travel sports moms.

CatMS I must admit I have never read any Judy Blume. In my youth it was Trixie Belden, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and biographies of famous women. Then I went to adult books as both my mom and dad were readers. 2w
Bookwormjillk @CatMS we used to pass them around in 3rd and 4th grade 2w
Librarybelle Oh! I‘ve not read this one by her! 2w
