Mrs. Caliban: A Novel | Rachel Ingalls

Thanks for the #ThreeListThursday #TLT tag @Eggs 🤗

This is hard to narrow down! It seems I like my stories & novellas on the creepy &/or weird side & the ones that come to mind are:

1️⃣ WHALITC is a classic for a reason 😱

2️⃣ Not enough hype for the tagged book. I found it in an early #AuldLangSpine (#NewYearWhoDis ) 🐸

3️⃣ Had to list both books from the Sworn Soldier series as I loved them both equally.🖤🖤

Anyone else want to share?

dabbe I haven't heard of any of these; you've given me more for the TBR! Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚 8mo
TieDyeDude Mrs. Caliban sounds interesting! Audio on hold 😁 8mo
DebinHawaii @TieDyeDude Very quirky, strange but good! 🐸💚 8mo

It‘s been ages since I did one of these.

1. HERE FOR IT by R. Eric Thomas
2. A GAME FOR SWALLOWS by Zeina Abirached
3. RUN TOWARDS THE DANGER by Sarah Polley

I was gonna do honourable mentions but there‘s like six books I could probably switch out with any of the three listed above, not even counting conversational cookbooks, soooo… 🤷‍♀️

#ThreeListThursday #TLT

monalyisha Oh, hey! We‘re book twins 👯‍♀️…at least a little. 😉 9mo
xicanti @monalyisha SIGH, GONE is on my extended/maybe switch out list, so we‘re double twins! 9mo
monalyisha I feel like this overlap might be #AuldLangSpine & @MeganAnn related somehow. 😉 9mo

xicanti @monalyisha y‘know, it very well might. 9mo
MeganAnn @monalyisha yes! I believe @xicanti read it off my #auldlangspine list and I found it thanks to @JackOBotts #newyearwhodis list from the year before. It‘s still a favorite of mine. 😍 Your event continues to help me find the best books every year!! 9mo
monalyisha @MeganAnn I definitely read it based on your review! I just saw that he has a picture book out about a cranky construction vehicle? 😅 My hopes aren‘t as high for that one (it looks wordy) but I‘m still tickled! 9mo
willaful I really enjoyed Here For It too. Listened to the audiobook. 9mo
MeganAnn @monalyisha a picture book? How interesting! I may have to check it out for the sake of curiosity. 😉 9mo
JackOBotts @meganan & @monalyisha - I love that Sigh, Gone was a favorite, it‘s one of mine, as well. This is what makes @litsy so fun - discovering books with one another. 🤗 And - of course - adding to my mountain of TBR! 🤣📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 9mo
dabbe @JackOBotts I couldn't agree more! 🤩😃🤩 9mo
dabbe Honorable mentions are fine with me! 🤩🤩🤩 9mo
JackOBotts @dabbe 🙌🏼 …And finding new folks to follow for even more recs! 😉💜📚 9mo
dabbe @JackOBotts YES! 🤩😍😃 9mo
xicanti @willaful the audiobook is so much fun. I recommended it to a friend who listened to it while she walked her dog, and she ended up laughing so hard everyone on the street gave her funny looks. 9mo
xicanti @JackOBotts @MeganAnn @monalyisha @dabbe all the love for how easy Litsy makes it to find great books & people to discuss them with. 9mo

Pickpick

Should be my last book post of the day! I finally read this one! It‘s been on my TBR since we first did #AuldLangSpine originally #NewYearWhoDis and it was on @BookNAround ‘s list! (I think).

This was a great read. Probably would have read differently a few years ago. An Anishinaabe community goes dark and they don‘t know why. They lose power, tv, internet, everything and don‘t know why. They have to figure out how to survive in the winter.

BookNAround I‘m so glad you enjoyed it. I just bought the sequel a couple of days ago and am hoping I enjoy it as much as the original. 11mo

TJR‘s books never sound like something I‘m interested in, but they‘re always fantastic. I‘m consistently amazed by how she can make me so deeply invested in characters that are so unlikable/difficult. This was another home run—or rather, an ace. 🎾 Carrie is right up there with Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo. Thank you @Karisimo for including this on your #AuldLangSpine list! This was my July #DoubleSpin.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 1y
dabbe I'm halfway through this myself! Agree with you on all points! 💙🖤🩵 1y
Tea_and_Starstuff Oh dear, I'd dismissed this author as one I probably wouldn't enjoy. But if you love the book? Might have to give the author a shot. 1y
BarbaraJean @Tea_and_Starstuff Ha! Yeah, my brain had classified her as “not for me” but then a couple of her books showed up on a #NewYearWhoDis list one year, so I decided to give her a shot. The full-cast audiobook of Daisy Jones & the Six is fantastic, or check out this one or The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and see what you think. Very complex and usually unlikable characters that are absolutely compelling. 1y

#12Booksof2022. #January

My pick for January is this story of an atypical mother/child relationship which I read as part of my #NewYearWhoDis pairing with @AmyG

Andrew65 Sounds a good read. 2y
AmyG I am glad you enjoyed it, too! 2y
TheBookHippie Oh this is a powerful read. 2y

So excited to be matched with @BarbaraJean for #AuldLangSpine!

I had already read and loved some of her list: Passing, People of the Book, The Night Gardener, Sea of Tranquility, Crossing to Safety. Pictured above are the titles I can't wait to read!

Thanks to @monalyisha for matching us and setting this up!!! So fun!

Karisimo More details for @BarbaraJean: I have been meaning to read Piranesi and Naomi Novik for a while, so thanks for the extra motivation! A friend irl has been begging me to read Under the Whispering Door. I had not previously heard of Address Unknown, Elatsoe, The Wanderers, or Nation, but they sound amazing and right up my alley! 2y
monalyisha 🙌🏻✨🥳 2y
BarbaraJean 🎉These are some GREAT picks. I guess I'm biased, but I loved these! I hope you do, too. Piranesi was the first book I read in 2022 & it was such a great start to the year. I have my IRL book club to thank for Elatsoe (which has beautiful chapter-opening illustrations) & Under the Whispering Door. And Address Unknown was from my #NewYearWhoDis list from @Blaire last year. It's so short but so powerful. I look forward to hearing what you think! 2y

Pickpick

A quiet novel full of compassion (for others, but also finding it for yourself) and a healthy dose of wit. I loved the Neons, the nuns, and especially Agatha. How she slowly grew her confidence; and her journey through questioning her convictions while never judging those around her for theirs.

Thank you for the recommendation @monalyisha 🎉 I don't think I'd have even heard of this one if it wasn't on your list last year!

JamieArc I want to stack this one whenever I see posts about it! 2y
Kristin_Reads Ha! I hadn‘t seen your post yet when I just posted mine about this book. Loved it 😊 2y

TheKidUpstairs @JamieArc do it! I'm so glad I finally picked it up. It was on @monalyisha 's #NewYearWhoDis last from last year, but I didn't get to it in January. I was getting so excited about #AuldLangSpine so I decided to finally pick it up and it was totally worth it. 2y
TheKidUpstairs @Kristin_Reads I always say great minds read alike! 2y
TheKidUpstairs @Chelsea.Poole woo hoo! 2y
JamieArc Of course it was on @monalyisha ‘s #NYWD list! She‘s my #AuldLangSpine match this year and I love all of her picks. 2y
monalyisha @JamieArc I almost want to bend the rules AGAIN and say you can count this one for #AuldLangSpine since I‘m your partner and it *was* on my list…at one time. 😅 2y
monalyisha @TheKidUpstairs I‘m so glad you enjoyed it! I really loved it. Whenever I came across someone putting it down, I could feel myself getting defensive. 😅 It got so little attention, I felt like it deserved for all of the attention it *did* get to be *good* attention. I honestly love a book with not much plot to speak of. 🤷‍♀️ What can I say? 2y
