Happy reading!
Another great Pratchett book! This book introduces Vimes. Loved that he so stubborn. It suited his character. Anyway, I thought the dialog in the book was outstanding. Enjoyed this one immensely. 4.5🌟

A group believes that Ankh-Morpork would be better w/ a king in charge. & how do you get a king? Summon a dragon to be heroically defeated by a “lost heir” of course. Only, nothing about this goes the way you‘d think.
God I love Lady Sybil so much! I want to be her when I grow up. This one is more focused on poking fun at the tropes of high fantasy at the time, & it does it so well, while giving me some of my favorite characters.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Gets better with every reread. It's the first introduction of my fave, Sam Vimes, but you get him more in sketch form, proto-Vimes. The focus is almost more on Carrot's introduction, but to the extent that you're being introduced to all the first members of the Night Watch, it's an ensemble piece, which is quietly tucked around the edges of a dark yet hopeful treatise on human nature. 1/?
Captain Vimes' first encounter with Lady Sybil Ramkin.
Is it a meet cute? No, it's a meet terrifying and I LIKE IT.
Finally reading Pratchett again! Special ordered this edition, because the new German covers are... not nice? Enjoyed ever single page and got me out of a reading slump. I've heard several times that this is one of the best Discworld books, and I agree. I mean, what's not to love? There's the librarian, there's dragons and fights and love. And lots of fun. Since I've read a lot of the later City Watch books, it was nice to see their early years 😄
This week was f*ed and still is. So let's try #5JoysFriday
1. Guards! Guards! bought my reading mojo back up
2. Work has been great and successful. Also, it helped me focusing on something else.
3. Dad, who came to the rescue and is a huge help.
4+5. Taskmaster, the show that still helps me coping.
@DebinHawaii
We‘re I forced to bet, I‘d take my 6 pounder over a dragon any day. She‘d make a nice Errol in a live action.
My 1st time reading this, one of Discworlds best. Pratchett just did everything right here. Humor and charm managed with a well-worked pacing. And scattered little enlightening observations on life.
The Discworld City Watch books reread begins!
I think this one in particular I enjoyed more the second time around. Having stumbled into the Discworld on a later Watch book, encountering Vimes 'early days' was a bit of a let down. But having none month's breathing room, it's just wonderful reading classic Pratchett again, and easier to spot all the pieces of Vimes that make him an enduring character (in both senses of the word), 1/?
Going to be doing some rereading and mostly try and finish the Discworld series. Going to start with Guards Guards as recommended from a YT channel I follow. Reading the series now in a more mini series by series of the full series based on this chart, if that makes sense.

5/25/2023 update - I LISTENED TO THE BRAND NEW AUDIOBOOK. Not the original narrator but a fantastic job! I really enjoyed it & will listen/immersion read again!!
This was fun to HEAR!! What a fun take!
I love Carrot!! And Vimes!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You‘ve got 24 hours with a fictional character of your choice. Choose wisely. ✨
1. Samuel Vimes, Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch and The Duke of Ankh.
2. Ours.
3. I desperately want to set Sam Vimes loose on the US Congress.
#SundayFunday Have a fantastic day, and remember to tag me so I can see your response! 💖
Guards! Guards! and Men at Arms.

4.25⭐ This was a great break from the darker stories that have seemed to catch my eye lately. I'm a sucker for puns, wordplay, and amusing footnotes, so this book was made for me. This is only my second Discworld book, and my third Pratchett book, but I definitely want to try more after reading this one.
Have to appreciate a book that lets you know what you are in for right from the dedication. 😂

1.Fantasy is one of my favourite genres, and Pratchett uses the genre to explore the real world so skillfully. An absolute genius.
2.100 years of solitude!I find it completely unreadable.Once in 10 years I begin it,reach a little further before giving up.I've reached 60%,don't plan to try again! Magical realism is just not for me.I can't understand what the writer is trying to say at all.
3.The weekend is that much nearer!
This was a fun romp through Ankh-Morpork, featuring dragons!
4th book finished for the #SuperSeptember readathon. @EadieB @Andrew65
The first book in this series featuring the Night Watch. So much fun!
📚 I don‘t feel worthy to review these books.
How about a quote?
“The Patrician didn‘t believe in unnecessary cruelty.*
*While being bang alongside the idea of necessary cruelty, of course.”
This is the 1st book in the City Watch subseries. I thought San Vimes was supposed to be the MC but I got more of Carrot & The Patrician.
Dog-end = cigarette butt
You‘re welcome. I had to look that up.
I look forward to more of these books!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“There are many #horrible sights in the multiverse. Somehow, though, to a soul attuned to the subtle rhythms of a library, there are few worse sights than a hole where a book ought to be.” #QuotsyMar21
First book read for #bookspinbingo and it‘s one of my all-time favourite books! A dragon is loose in Ankh-Morpork and Captain Vimes, usually drunk and all-too-aware of how far he has fallen, is not having it. If anyone is going to set fire to his city, it‘s going to be him. It‘s a genuinely funny book and Sir Terry has a lot of fun playing with fantasy tropes but Guards! Guards! is also about integrity and standing up for what you know is right.
Reading my first Terry Pratchett book. After some research I decided to start with "Guards Guards"
Q. What is your favourite TP book and why?
#currentlyreading
In all honesty it was quite good, I enjoyed the characters, Lady Ramkin is lovely, as are the other dragon ladies, Carrot is adorable and entirely unversed in the ways of the world, and Captain Vimes is a man who tries (just occasionally) to be a good person in a world not built for one to do so.
I‘d recommend it. So long as you‘re someone who has slightly better focus than I you might even finish it in a reasonable number of days.
“... the food was good solid stuff for a cold morning, all calories and fat and protein and maybe a vitamin crying softly because it was all alone.” #food #QuotsyNov20
“These weren‘t encouraged in the city, since the heft and throw of a longbows arrow could send it through an innocent bystander 100 yards away rather than the innocent bystander at whom it was aimed.”
Gotta love Pratchett‘s no nonsense outlook on weaponry
Y‘all I‘m so excited to get in to this book! I‘ve heard fantastic things and have been waiting for it since I started reading the discworld series
Based on this cover, I would have never chosen this book. I know, I know we‘re not supposed to judge books by their covers but I can‘t help it sometimes. Anyway I read this for book club and it was hilarious. I enjoyed all of it!
#IfYouLikeThisMovie #Aliens
Then you‘ll like this comedy where a dragon is overtaking the city and the guard is at a loss on how to stop it!
This book is a very funny, sweet escape from real life. It pokes fun at serious fantasy, but it isn't just a parody. It has a great plot that kept me reading! Good for fans of Monty Python but also fantasy fans who have often cringed at some of the more unrealistic tropes of fantasy books and movies.
Every character introduced in this adventure is just delightful in his or her own way. The plot was twisted in such a fun and silly way, and with every new turn I wanted to know what would happen next. Honestly, it shouldn't have taken me so long to read, but I'm glad I did and can't wait to visit with the City Watch again.

Day 2, book 2. Or book series.
Pratchett‘s fantasy world is such a brilliant commentary on our own. So full and rich and easy to get lost in. I‘ve never before come across a piece of fiction which has made me laugh this much or this often.
“A book has been taken. A book has been taken? You summoned the Watch," Carrot drew himself up proudly, "because someone's taken a book? You think that's worse than murder?"
The Librarian gave him the kind of look other people would reserve for people who said things like "What's so bad about genocide?
- my favourite bibliophile, the Librarian of Unseen University for the @vivastory 200000 litfluence celebration. Congrats!

“I mean, it's a good job we've got a last desperate million-to-one chance to rely on, or we'd really be in trouble!” #million #QuotsyJan20
The first of the City Watch books follows Captain Vimes, Constable Carrot, several dragons, a noblewoman, a secret society, Discworld‘s Librarian, and the Patrician as they attempt to save Ankh-Morpork with varying degrees of success. It‘s a fun romp and I‘m glad I finally got to this #Discworld series, especially with the TV adaptation coming soon.
I am only halfway through this book, but I am already prepared to Have Opinions in this Night Watch adaptation.

But. I will be good and save them for when I‘m done with the books and have seen the show 🙃

“There is something very unexpected about this sword. It isn‘t magical. It hasn‘t got a name. When you wield it you don‘t get a feeling of power, you just get blisters; you could believe it was a sword that had been used so much that it had ceased to be anything other than a quintessential sword, a long piece of #metal with very sharp edges. And it hasn‘t got destiny written all over it. It‘s practically unique, in fact.” #QuotsyNov19
“But all this business about kings and lords, it's against basic human #dignity. We're all born equal. It makes me sick.”
“Never heard you talk like this before, Frederick,” said Nobby.
“It's Sergeant Colon to you, Nobby.”
#QuotsyOct19
I loved it. Quick and easy read with bits and pieces woven in from his overall vision of Discworld. So far my favorite of his books I've read so far. Hilarious if you get into his tongue in cheek sense of humor.
“It‘s a metaphor of human bloody existence, a dragon. And if that wasn‘t bad enough, it‘s also a bloody great hot #flying thing.” #QuotsyAug19
I finally got my hubby to start reading #Discworld! So far he‘s read the first two City Watch books, the first Witches book & he‘s about halfway through Wyrd Sisters. He‘s enjoying the books so much I decided to start rereading! I‘m not sure yet if I‘ll reread all the Watch books first, or bounce around between the different threads, or maybe reread in the same order as my husband reads them. At any rate, I‘m looking forward to an #epicreread!
Turned up at the library book sale. Mine mine mine. It‘s a First American Edition. #terrypratchett #discworld #ookbookclub #PratchettPosse
Book 57 of the year finished July 21, audio
Captain Vimes! 💗
When a dragon is summoned and starts terrorizing the city, it's up to The Watch to save the city. It's a one in a million chance, but it just might work.
My first #audiowalk yesterday ... think I‘m converted 😀 another planned for today but running errands so not so pretty surroundings
Did I really need another copy? Silly question - it‘s Sam Vimes, of course I did. (And of course it‘s A Pratchett book that puts a stop to my can‘t concentrate long enough to read anything phase...)
