Pickpick

I picked this up based on @Aimeesue ‘s review, and I‘m glad I did! Originally published in #1981 , this YA historical fiction covers quite a lot of heavy topics. Russian displacement, eugenics (yikes!), and war are a few of the big ones. There are some very horrible characters, but the MC Anna‘s outlook on life is so grownup and inspiring. And yes, at its core, this is a romance; it‘s fun to watch things unfold! #192025

LeahBergen I want to read this! 2mo

Low pick for me - I think I liked the atmosphere more than most of the characters! But, I was compelled to read it. The whole school sounds spooky, and I‘d love to see a place steeped in so much history and lore.

I guess the message from this is that grief affects everyone differently, and we‘re all running away from something, whether it‘s grief or stress or trauma or something else that consumes us. #PemberLittens #JaneAdjacent

Librarybelle #BBRC #TeenAngst #SnowballEffect - the loss of a loved one catapulted an entire family into grief and pain, causing them to lose interest or the inability to interact with past favorite activities, and in a sense, with each other. @LibrarianRyan 5mo
StayCurious Low pick for me as well. Not quite a so-so. I enjoyed it enough to make it a low pick 5mo

I really enjoyed this book. At times it could be a little too ya. The magic system was cool. Each witch has a designated season which they are strongest in controlling except Clara, she is an Everwitch & has power through all four seasons but she can't control it. I'm really looking forward to the #SundayBuddyRead discussion @TheBookHippie

In case I need reminded, manga is really not my favorite reading genre, but I completely understand the appeal. Just not for me!

This is the first in the well known Sailor Moon series, so provides the background on the rise of Sailor Moon and her allies, plus the mysterious Tuxedo Mask. The illustrations are fun. #BBRC #TeenAngst #ShojoManga

Interesting adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The illustrations worked very well with the story, and though it‘s been years since I‘ve read the original novel, I think this edition captures the essence of the story. #TeenAngst #GraphicNovelVersionOfANovelAlreadyInExistence #BBRC

LibrarianRyan I think there were 2 different graphic novel editions done. I know I read one of them. i am glad you like it. 2y

I loved the subject of this book, esp with its relevance for my daughter (there are a lot of dress code battles where we live), and the focus on intersectionality was fantastic. I just didn‘t like the writing in Ruby‘s chapter at all. Not sure if the dual author thing worked well in this one. I would have preferred the whole book from Malena‘s POV.
