This isn't book related, but I have to share my newest obsession. I got a birdfeeder with a camera for Christmas. So far, it has "caught" 14 different species. Here are a few of my favorite pictures so far.

kspenmoll Wow! I love this! I miss bird feeders. We cannot have them because the bears come to feed on the seed.🙁 6d

I can see why BETTER LIVING THROUGH BIRDING is so popular! Christian Cooper‘s enthusiasm really shines through. I‘m enjoying it a lot and I want to prioritize his comics the next time I have a Marvel Unlimited subscription.

That said, either the print book has teeny, tiny typeface or I find his prose style very slow. It‘s taking me forever to get through these 296 pages and my progress-to-effort ratio has made me a bit grumpy. #AuldLangSpine2025

peanutnine Oh interesting. I did the audiobook so it felt well-paced with him reading it but I'm not sure how it would translate to text 1w
xicanti @peanutnine I looked up the audiobook‘s runtime, and it‘s exactly what I‘d expect from a book of around 300 pages. Weird. There‘s just something about this guy‘s syntax that means I CANNOT read him at anything like my usual pace, even though he‘s remarkably down to earth for a nature writer (so many of them are hardcore florid) and he‘s got a lot of interesting stuff to say. 🤷‍♀️ 1w

Read in 2024. Definitely one of my favorites from last year. I listened to the audio read by the author, which was wonderful & got to hear various birds. Cooper highlighted the incident in Central Park but this book is about so much more. He discussed what led him to birding, his experiences of growing up gay in the 1980‘s, traveling the world to see birds. He interweaved his social justice with the various events throughout his life.

What a wonderful #jolabokaflod package! Thank you @Readergrrl 🙂. I love that you sent local chocolate, and the mustache is really fun.

I love bird watching and I‘ve heard this is terrific. Definitely looking forward to reading it. Thank you!

Readergrrl @Soubhiville I am so glad! This book looks great! I didn‘t know that Amy Tan was also the illustrator until I had the actual book in my hands. Love it!! Merry Christmas! 3w
Soubhiville @Readergrrl she has such talent! The illustrations are so lifelike. Just gorgeous. 3w

#5JoysFriday @DebinHawaii it's been a very busy week with one more Christmas market to do tomorrow and baking for it. But I do look for joys just for this challenge.
1. #WinterGames24 with co-host @StayCurious
2. Sold a candle set I made
3. My dog treats are selling well at the markets
4. I bought a bird feeder
5. Oakley took my side of the bed where she looked so cute I couldn't move her

julieclair Wonderful joys! Those candles are so pretty! And I love the bird feeder. 1mo

Another pleasant little book about birds, but make it by Amy Tan!?! Yes please! This is just a delight for nature lovers and the illustrations are superb, which Tan taught herself to do. This is another one of those to dip in and out of throughout the year as it doesn‘t need to be read in one go. I did lost n to her narrate it though which also added some extra depth to the experience. So I guess do bot: print and audio!

TEArificbooks I am currently reading this one slowly, just a little at a time each day. 1mo

When the owner of a bird sanctuary announces he wants to sell it, he is found dead next day. George Palmer-Jones works out who did it but he needs his wife's help to prove it.

The locked room is an island cut off from the mainland by the tides but this is a great classic form mystery which I thoroughly enjoyed.
