As Simple as Snow | Gregory Galloway
post image

We got the barest hint of first flurries today in Mass & Rhode Island. Not enough to appear in a #BeautyBreak photo. BUT! I went to college in VT & I have friends who are still there. One of them shared a picture in our group chat of the view outside her window. ❄️💜

Today‘s book haul from the Harrogate Crimewriting Festival - ‘only‘ 3 books but two more days to go! 😜

I also evangelised about Litsy and persuaded @CarysTec to join us, so please say hi 👋! Tagging a few people below for you to follow, Carys.

Carys is really into crime fiction (obvs!) and my mind has gone blank 🤦‍♀️ (really, just tagging those who have recently read King of Ashes) so please tag anyone you know who is also a #crimefictionfan.

Susanita Welcome @CarysTec ! 5mo

Wow! Attica is just fabulous. A wide-ranging interview at the Harrogate Crime Writing Festival, of course covering her Highway 59 trilogy, but also a lot about US politics.

She lives in LA and spoke about ICE, Trump and, in general, what it feels like to be living in the US today.

Looking forward to the rest of the weekend!

A great piece of writing bringing the trilogy about black Texas Ranger Darren Matthews to a close. The author nails the politics of America today as a politician who has his eyes on greater rewards finds the indictment of a black law officer a personal crusade. Attica Locke is brilliant on race and politics as the story centres on the disappearance of a black student in a very white Uni house, as well as a creepy village created by a big company.

Reading on my Kindle the final Highway 59 series book and it is quite good... of course it's Attica Locke.

Nonfiction - published in 2011. Candace Fleming‘s exploration of the infamous Amelia Earhart — her extraordinary accomplishments, doomed final flight, and modern legacy — proves to readers that history can be as thrilling as fantasy, as suspenseful as mystery, and as interesting as the best of fiction.

This was a very satisfying conclusion to the Highway 59 trilogy about Texas Ranger Darren Mathews. There‘s a mystery in the story but that‘s only part of the narrative. A lot of it is about Mathews, his family history, and his current relationships. I especially enjoyed how this explored his difficult relationship with his mother. I‘ve heard this may become a TV show and I really hope it does.

A great ending to the trilogy. The mystery was interesting, but the best part of the book was Darren‘s developing relationship with his mother.

KT1432 I can‘t wait to dive into this! But I‘m kind of sad the series is ending lol 1y
ErikasMindfulShelf @KT1432 True, but it was a satisfying ending. 1y

In the final Darren Matthews book, Darren is having a major work upheaval when his mother appears and claims a black sorority girl is missing. Darren gets sucked into the situation while otherwise it feels like his life is falling apart. Great book and a worthy end to the series.
