Mehso-so

This topped my list of books I was intimidated to read. I‘m sure I would have really disliked reading it if by myself but I came to quite enjoy my nightly ritual of reading a chapter and checking @BarkingMadRead ‘s post, hashtag, and comments. The pretty edition helped too 😊. While I would have needed to read this in an English course to be convinced of its merits, there were some little gems sprinkled in, like this last sentence that I loved.

JamieArc Also completed for March #Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks 2y
BarkingMadRead Woohoo! You made it through, this was such a long one! 2y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! I also wouldn't have made it through this one without the encouragement from @BarkingMadRead and the #HashtagBrigade!! 😂 2y
ReadingRachael I love that quote! 2y

Ok #pemberlittens what should the #hashtagbrigade read next? Let‘s come up with some ideas and then we will vote in the next few days. It could be another #austenadjacent book or a #chunksterfromhell #youdecide

Bookwormjillk I‘m still intrigued by 2y
Bookwormjillk Or you know, whatever you all want. I can survive anything as long as it‘s limited to a chapter a day 🤣 2y

mcctrish @TheBookHippie are we reading Lady Chatterly‘s lover with #sundaybuddyread ? 2y
mcctrish I‘m not sure what all you‘ve read so far so I will just watch the suggestions roll in 2y
TheBookHippie @mcctrish yes !!!! AUGUST! 2y
ravenlee No more Bronte! 2y
BarkingMadRead @ravenlee I feel that in my soul! 2y
Librarybelle I‘m up for whatever! 2y
IndoorDame @ravenlee definitely need a break from those ladies 🤣 2y
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie ooh, I hadn‘t realized. Fun! I haven‘t read that in 20 yrs (edited) 2y
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame came up in a book last year and we decided to read it. I read it 37 years ago 👀😅 2y
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie I‘m super impressed you remember the exact number! 2y
Morr_Books Since I am new to this, have y'all read any Elizabeth Gaskell? 2y
BarkingMadRead @Morr_Books the #pemberlittens read one last year at some point, I think? North and South, I believe! 2y
Morr_Books @BarkingMadRead So sorry to have missed that one! 2y
BarkingMadRead @Morr_Books there‘s always Cranford 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead I loved Excellent women more books by that author is okay! 2y
BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie we read that one last year as well! I should keep a list! 2y
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 🤣 math . I took detention for reading it senior year. Only whores read DH Lawrence 👀 2y
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead I read it with you but are there more by her we can read? 2y
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead oooo they look good! But I‘ll read anything 🤣 #hashtags 2y
eeclayton @Bookwormjillk I'd be interested in Tess too, but I'm also open to whatever #hashtagbrigadeforever 2y
TheAromaofBooks I looked up a few lists of suggestions for what to read after Austen! 😂 A Glass of Blessings was on the list, along with The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford, The Gentleman's Daughter by Amanda Vickery, and Jane Austen's Letters edited by Deirdre Le Faye. And this list has 50 suggestions! https://www.silverpetticoatreview.com/50-books-love-jane-austen/ It's a rather dangerous list for my TBR, I must admit! 2y
IndoorDame The Pym ones look great and I haven‘t read her yet, so I‘m leaning towards that, but I did really enjoy North and South so Cranford would get a yes from me too 2y
TheAromaofBooks This one sounds particularly intriguing - originally published in 1914, it seems like it must be one of the earliest forms of fanfiction! 2y
AllDebooks If you fancy a change from Victorian ladies, I suggest E.M. Forster. He's often compared to Austen and he was a complete Janeite https://thejaneaustenproject.com/2010/07/28/illicit-reading/ 2y
Morr_Books I second E.M. Forster - like A Room with a View or A Passage to India. 2y
BarkingMadRead So many great suggestions! I have 5 on our list so far! 2y
Morr_Books @TheAromaofBooks I never heard of this one, but it is on my TBR now. 😀 2y
DebinHawaii @TheAromaofBooks I think we mentioned reading Old Friends and New Fancies a while back & it still intrigues me. It would get my vote. 2y
Ruthiella @ravenlee @IndoorDame No more Brontë? ? I think I‘ve reached saturation point too. @BarkingMadRead I vote for Hardy because I‘ve never read anything from him and feel like I should. Or Vanity Fair by Thackary. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Morr_Books @DebinHawaii - It definitely went on my TBR!! 2y
willaful I could go for Gaskell or Forster. Never read Cranford or A Passage to India. (Or did I read Cranford? Hmm...) 2y
Bklover I missed Agnes (been painting my house) so I shouldn‘t vote this time, but I do love a good #hashtagbrigade chunkster! 2y
StayCurious So many awesome suggestions! Thanks to everyone for being involved! 2y
Aimeesue I‘m a #Pymphomaniac, so . . 2y
ravenlee I‘ve read both Tess and Vanity Fair in the past year, so I‘d be out for either of those (or Cranford for the same reason). I will say VF might be a tough one so close behind Middlemarch, as it‘s another long one with long stretches of nothing happening. I personally liked Tess more, though it was hard because of the subject matter. 2y
