Mrs Dalloway | Virginia Woolf

2½✨

This is the second book by Virginia Woolf that I've tried. And I'm sorry to say I just don't like her writing energy. At points it felt frantic and chaotic and I had to put all my mind-power to work to stay with the story.
I just feel that I've worked way too hard for this little book.

PaperbackPirate I feel the same way! I read The Voyage Out. 😴 1y

I have to start by saying I LOVE Jesse Vilinsky's narration!
She truly brought the story to life. Would love to get more of her work.

As for the story...
Antsy's is a tough one to tell, but McGuire does it great justice. And as always takes us to a place so wonderfully magical that you wish you could find your door.
I can't wait to see how Antsy will fit into the future of Wayward Children.

Enchanted_Bibliophile @TheSpineView @Andrew65 #SeriesLove2023. Not a completed series ( in fact I hope it never ends), but up to date with the newest publication. 1y
Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 Sometime the worst thing is a when a favourite series ends. Lost a few recently due to the death of some authors. 1y
TheSpineView Oh the wait for the next book! 1y
Clwojick Loved this one so much! 1y

3½ ✨

Didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one.
At first it dragged and then the ending felt rushed and a bit incomplete. I'd like it if I could have joined Nicolas in his final voyage. Not just get a one paragraph summary of it. In fact I feel it could have been a whole book on its own.

I absolutely loved this book. I'm so glad that I finally read it. Edward Dantes is wrongfully thrown in prison, but after almost 2 decades, he escapes. He then finds hidden treasure and then goes after the people who wronged him 🖤

Another February #roll100 title finished in March.

In anticipation of watching Amazon Prime‘s Daisy Jones & the Six series when it released, I wanted something to get me in the mood without expressly rereading Daisy. This was just the ticket! Some similar themes here of rock ‘n roll, dealing with fame and music and art. There‘s also drugs and addiction, along with mental health all rolled into various ways these things influence people. ⬇️

MeganAnn And in the end if you loved Daisy Jones I think you‘ll probably also love this. But for me, I love them as separate books that only contain a common theme but really aren‘t the same at all. I think this would be a great summer beach read. I almost wished I would‘ve had a beach to sit on in the sun while reading this one. 2y

CBee @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks you‘re so sweet! We‘re swapping his books 😊😊 2y
Librariana I love the subtle (and very smart!) detail of the letter 'A' in "A Novel" paying a stylistic nod to the Scarlet Letter ?? (Hi sis!! ??) 2y
CBee @Librariana hiiiii!!! Yes, the way the “A” is hidden throughout the book is fantastic. It‘s such a great read!! 2y

So interesting, so good. All about the movies during the silver screen heyday. Loretta Young, Clark Gable, Myrna Loy, Spencer Tracy, and more! Trigiani does a great job of weaving the true story lines we know with the movie making stories we don‘t. I really enjoyed the set painting, artistic and religious elements too. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks Great on #audio #Pantone2023 #LeekGreen @Clwojick

This was written in ‘92 before Dark Academia really existed, but it‘s widely considered the novel that started the genre, and still makes most “best of” lists for the genre. It does a great job of capturing the heightened whirlwind of youth, and personifying its most sinister aspects. #Pantone2023 #LeekGreen #Booked2023 #GiftedByALitsyUser #JoyousJanuary @Clwojick @alisiakae @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
