post image

My #weeklyforecast this week is dedicated to #booked2019 📚 I‘ve made some progress on each of these reads this weekend:

Ohio #bookaboutaddiction
William, an Englishman #soldiersstory
The Water Dancer #PoCMCParanormal (which I am LOVING by the way, can't put it down!)

Thanks to our hosts for the bookish inspiration!! @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

EmilyM I just finished Water Dancer this afternoon.....loved it! I think I am going to now read Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad to follow it up. 3d
4thhouseontheleft I really want to read The Water Dancer! I‘m on hold for it at the library. 3d
Cathythoughts I nearly got the Water Dancer the other day 🤔... maybe I‘ll go back & get it 👍🏻❤️ 2d
emilyhaldi @EmilyM its reminding me so much of Underground Railroad!! I'm already loving it as much. Perhaps thats why I keep thinking you would love it, Cindy! @Cinfhen (edited) 2d
BarbaraTheBibliophage I loved Water Dancer. So glad Coates stretched into the world of fiction without losing his social justice focus. 1d

This was an easy read with diverse characters and a great MC. I like that the author combined the spirit world with the art world, and there was enough creepy to keep my interest.

I am thankful to my new book club for opening me up to a masterpiece. I haven‘t read anything by the author before, but he has such a way of words that it was so hard not to feel like you were in the story. There were some hard parts to read, but I felt the ending fit the book. It also satisfies the last prompt for #booked2019 for me #pocmcparanormal. Hiram has a power that is core to the book, but it‘s not understood until almost the end.

Scochrane26 I haven‘t read this one yet but have read 2 nonfiction books by him. They blew my mind & educated me about race. He also wrote the new black panther comics. 1mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great pick for this prompt. Congrats on finishing the challenge! I definitely recommend his other books, too. 1mo

I‘m still all over the place, 16 finished... 8 to go though.

This quarter I read:

19. Hey, Kiddo - #BookAboutAddiction
2. Spinning Silver - #FairyTaleRetelling
10. How To Build A Girl - #FeaturesAMusician
16. The Walking Dead Vol.32 - #Comic
17. Down Girl - Book Gifted to Me
22. Storm Cursed - #POCMCParanormal
9. Every Day is a Good Day - #IndigenousAuthor

4thhouseontheleft I still have to complete the Irish winter prompt! Great job on the others, I also read Hey, Kiddo for the addiction prompt. 2mo
IamIamIam Great job! You're getting there!! 2mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @4thhouseontheleft Hey, Kiddo was a great book too. For the Irish Writer prompt I thought I‘d read Celtic Twilight by WB Yeats it‘s on serial reader and it‘s fairies, Ghosts, spirits...so I thought it would be good one to read in October. Genrebusting is the one I‘m not sure what I‘m going to read for that one yet. 2mo

JazzFeathers 👏👏👏 l basically abandoned in the first quarter to try and clear my #NetGalley pile. Which l'm almost done doing 😆 2mo
Cinfhen Great job!! Every prompt you complete is a total win 🤗🤗 2mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers I‘ve just been fitting them in as I go, as we near the end of the year I‘ll have to be more selective. 😉 2mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great job! Like my lovely co-host said, every one completed is fab! ♥️📚👊🏻 2mo

I loved this book!! You really don't have an option to question what's going on as you're thrown into a world where Alex is a bruja and trying to reject her powers before her Deathday. Things don't work out as planned and sometimes we need to realize that what we think of as burdens are really our greatest strengths. #POCMCParanormal #Booked2019 #Autumn

Cinfhen Fabulous review!! Have u read this @Reggie 2mo
IamIamIam @Cinfhen Thanks!! I was warned about the love triangle in advance but it didn't take away from the story. 👍 2mo
Reggie I have not, but I have heard of it but you know how the reading life is..... ohhhhh there‘s a book. Lol @cinfhen 2mo

Trying to look for this prompt has my head spinning and I feel like I'm not trying hard enough. Zombies aren't for me so Dread Nation is out, I read Kindred about 20 years ago and I'm finding lots of paranormal romance which isn't going to happen! Looking for alternate suggestions for the #POCMCParanormal prompt! #Help #InSearchOfSuggestions #LibrariansOfLitsy

Bookzombie I think this would work. I‘m probably going to go with a book by Daniel José Older. 2mo
IamIamIam @Bookzombie Thanks! I've not heard of Older yet so I can take a look at the options. 😁 2mo
Hestapleton I bet this would work! 2mo

IamIamIam @Hestapleton Ooooh, good call!!! I have those on my TBR! 2mo
LibrarianRyan While it's not really a paranormal book, he is visited by ghosts which are paranormal, so I say go for it. 2mo
IamIamIam @LibrarianRyan That's what I thought. With Kindred, I didn't think time travel is really paranormal but ghosts definitely count. 2mo
4thhouseontheleft Labyrinth Lost would definitely work! I like that book, but FYI it does have a romance component. A few others are Shadowshaper, Akata Witch, and Fledgling. 2mo
IamIamIam @4thhouseontheleft Awesome suggestions!!! Thanks so much!!! I have Labyrinth Lost on hold with Libby but I'll definitely check out the others! I think I was focusing on the POC part but not really thinking of all the colors available. 😂 Also, thanks for the heads up on romance! I can handle a relationship but not a romantic focus. 🤢 I know, very tween of me... LOL 2mo
4thhouseontheleft @IamIamIam Labryinth Lost has a love triangle component. It‘s not a huge part of the plot, but it is there. 2mo
IamIamIam @Bookzombie @Hestapleton @LibrarianRyan @4thhouseontheleft I was talking to my husband about the prompt and he asked if it was just ghosts or magic also. He suggested this too... what do you guys think? We have the audio, which is a huge bonus! 2mo
mrp27 American Gods works, I was thinking about doing that one and Long Way Down certainly works, it's a fantastic read! 2mo
IamIamIam @mrp27 Excellent!!! Thanks!! 😁👌 2mo

I loved the author‘s earlier series. But after 3 books, I‘m giving up on this series. Tooooo many characters, which keeps me from caring about any of them enough. Or maybe his writing just isn‘t strong enough to draw me in. I‘ve felt this way for each book in this series. Enough is enough. But if you love Witches, New Orleans, and voodoo you may love this.

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Exactly! 👊🏻♥️ 3mo
4thhouseontheleft All the elements sound good! Too bad it wasn‘t a solid 👍. 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft Oh well ... 😰🤪 3mo

An alternate history of post civil war US where the sudden emergence of zombies sends the country spiraling back toward hated & slavery instead of beginning the slow shift toward embracing changing values. Filed with interesting characters from all backgrounds & all sides of the political spectrum in this world. While there were clearly villians & heroes the heroes were flawed & the villains were (sometimes) sympathetic. Really well done.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Oooh. Good pick. I might use this one if my other option doesn‘t pan out! 5mo
hermyknee Yes! I loved this one and I can‘t wait until the next book comes out - I just looked it up, book 2 will be out February 2020 (edited) 5mo

4 🌟 This was such a fun romp At the start it seemed like a more child friendly version of Locke and Key. This book is about a blended family, and how even broken families can be fixed. Three kids are sent to grandma Lupe‘s for the summer. She lives in an old hotel, that has special abilities. It will take every member of the family to make this trip, this mission, a success. A great books for kids or adults.

I‘m being generous and giving this a so-so, but I won‘t be reading more books in the series. It felt like a mash up of The Walking Dead, a Civil War romance, and every YA novel with a kick-ass heroine. All things that could be good, but it just didn‘t work for me.

My last book for the #MarchMadnessChallenge 🙌
And I‘m counting this as my #POCMCParanormal book for #Booked2019. Zombier are kinda paranormal, right?

Cinfhen It certainly works in my opinion 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️ 6mo
BarbaraBB So how did your March Madness go? Have you discovered good books? 6mo
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB pretty good! I predicted the winner book (Woohoo!). I think I really liked about half of the books I read, while the last half was less impressive 😅 6mo
See All 7 Comments
BarbaraBB Are you the overall winner then? And what was your favorite book? 6mo
Kalalalatja I don‘t think I have the most points, but I think I won the title of best “coach” 😊 6mo
4thhouseontheleft Definitely paranormal, this is the book I had in mind when we camp up with this prompt! 6mo
