Ready for #booked2020!

First book I‘ve read that focused on the wars I‘ve lived through and what the experience has been like for the young men and women deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Klay covers a wide variety of experiences and reactions and it felt very real. And with that #booked2019 is done. Will post a fall summary shortly. #soldierstory

I love Suzanne Rindell, a must read author for me, BUT this doesn‘t stack up to her first two books. I liked the setting, the story, and the inspiration. On the flip side, it felt like the action could have started sooner—the pacing was off. The characters didn‘t come alive for me. I used this one for #soldierstory for #booked2019 because WWII was an integral part of the book and one of the MC‘s brothers enlisted, which was the catalyst for ⬇️

This book for middle grade up takes place during WWI. It was an excellent depiction of war on the home front of Scottish Lowlands and well written with emotional depth and understanding. I highly recommend it to anyone who reads historical fiction and war stories. #homeschoolhistory #bbrcdogsrule #booked2019 #soldierstory

I have read a few of Wilson‘s books in the past, so I knew to have tissues on hand and to have Brody close by while reading this #NetGalley pick! Split between two women, this brings together a veteran and a convicted felon, and the dog that brings them together -plus an almost mythic dog! Entertaining and emotional, I am not #sorry that I read this one! #Movember #DogsOfLitsy

Powerful, sad, at times lyrical. The life and death of young men on the German front shows us the dissociation needed to live, survive, die. I didn‘t find it glorified war, more rationalized how the men who survive day after day in cruel, insane conditions become a pack, surviving on instinct; how young men who have known nothing else find themselves adrift afterwards.
