I flew through this book that explores how and why a great number of Americans don't use traditional banks in favor of alternative financial services. I especially liked reading about the author's field work at check cashing and payday loan businesses.

Facilitating a discussion of this riveting WWII book. We'll talk about honor, goodness, fear, memory. Much of the book is the story of a German fighter pilot, a perspective I never truly considered.

Fireman | Joe Hill

We have a library patron who loves the contemporary references in Stephen King and Joe Hill. He's OK with the horror aspect of King and Hill, but what he really likes is their great storytelling. What authors or books would you recommend as readalikes? Thanks!

BookishFeminist Neil Gaiman. He doesn't really do the contemporary references as much but the storytelling is A+. 😊 8y
Bette Sully was googling: 'contemporary references in fiction' and got a bunch of pros and cons for name dropping in writing, will it date it? So this one is tough. If he liked horror, it would be a breeze. 🌬 8y
librariankris @Bette I placed a hold on Peter Straub and one on Joe R. Lansdale. I got some other suggestions to dig into, also. I wondered about the dating bit, so I was sticking with newer stuff. 8y
