Helloooooooo!
In defence of the the tagged book this man was a super hero! I want to be in a book club with him.
Canada reads (survivor for books, canadian style) is the platform where he defended this book. It was not my favourite of the 6 (5?) books. But he was my favourite defender of all time! I want to be in a book club with him!

Oh my goodness!!! Edited to add this is Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Appa from Kim‘s Conveniwnce)

ShelleyBooksie I love him! He made Kim's Convenience. 4y

Tagged book! I snorted many times. Soooo funny!

Not for everyone. To be sure.

Also, a YA read... Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landry. On audio book especially! The dry wit is pitch perfect!

Thanks for the tag! Such a cheerful place to put my brain! 💓

Why yes. Yes I did put glasses on The Stone Angel.
As I finished this I realized i had read another accidental #readcanada entry!!! #manitoba.

The reason for this re-read was because we decided to downsize and bought a sweet little stone cottage. The people we bought it from have named it Stone Angel; inspired by this book. Strange choice for an homage. Any interpretations welcome!

The house has a “home of homes” vibe. 💚

MsMelissa I loved this book. PS - the glasses look good on the angel 😂 And yay for your cottage! 4y

On many lists this one one was listed as one that could fulfill the #Nunavut part of #readcanada. It does..... but not exclusively. It talks equally about the people of Northern Ontario, BC, Finland, Brazil etc. etc etc.

Transcribed Massey Lectures. Highly recommend.

Eddie Izzard has been one of my fav comedians for over 20 years.
It was so good to read his memoir. He has always been an enigma to me. So I recommend his stand up as well as this memoir!

WhatWouldJaneDo Love Eddie Izzard; that book has been on my TBR for ages so this is another reminder I need to get to it! 4y
runswithscissors007 @WhatWouldJaneDo if you know his comedy you will hear his voice so clearly in this. He deals with his tangents in a pretty cohesive way but it probably helps if you are used to his tangents. 😂 😬) 4y

Out of 29 read only 6 had LGBTQIA+ characters.
None were own voice. (That I know of)
@jenniferw88 posted a couple of lists that I will definitely delve into!
I know last year most of the LGBTQIA+ characters I read were own voice. For steamy sex I recommend The Change Room by Karen Connelly. Sissy was a great own voice one for me and my evolving trans understanding.

Black authors 2
Non black POC - 3

runswithscissors007 @KVanRead @Book_Fiend_Melissa Yes. Three Day Road. A good book but I heard it put really well when someone said he was taking up air time on indigenous stories. The Round House by Louise Erdrich is one I would recommend for an own voice novel. 5y
MsMelissa I loved Three Day Road. It‘s one of my favourite novels, and I still recommend it highly as a novel of the WWI experience. For Indigenous voices my recommendations are Richard Wagamese and Thomas King. I‘ve not yet read Erdrich, but I have at least one of her novels sitting on an e-reader. 5y
runswithscissors007 @Book_Fiend_Melissa i💚💚💚 Thomas King. Do you listen to the CBC? He did a radio show on there called Dead Dog Cafe. I have read a few of his books and I could listen to him talk all day long! 5y
MsMelissa I don‘t listen to CBC radio, but I‘ve seen him speak about some of his books (probably on some CBC TV show). Have you read any of his Thumps DreadfulWater series? I read book one earlier this year and thought it was great. 5y
runswithscissors007 @Book_Fiend_Melissa I haven‘t read any from that series. It is on my list now though! Thanks! (I loved green grass running water and his book of short stories.) 5y
KVanRead @runswithscissors007 @Book_Fiend_Melissa Thomas King is one of my 2 indigenous authors so far this year (the other is Tanya Tagaq). I read The Inconvenient Indian and really liked it and have been curious to to try others by him so glad to have your recs. My favorite Indigenous read last year was by Tommy Orange. 5y
KVanRead I also loved 3 day road but was disappointed when the controversy erupted. He‘s such a good writer it was so unnecessary (and wrong) for him to appropriate an identity like that. 5y
runswithscissors007 @KVanRead inconvenient Indian was a dense read. Even with his light touch. But worth it! I dug our the book of short stories it‘s called One Good Story That One. 5y

Side note. There is a glossary in this one with words like cordial and aid-society!

Pickpick

A mermaid-oligist and a late night DJ cross paths.... tres charmant!
Solid 3 stars.
I think this story could have been meh if not for Carols Sheilds being its shepherd. 😬

@Wife it arrived today! Highlight of my day! Many thanks for the work you do. And the sacrifices you make. #litsylove
Hello neighbour! (In more ways than one😄). Wondering if my note got to you yet?

Wife I‘m glad you liked your “Hug”. I love ❤️ the glasses you gave the bear. I did get your letter about a day after I mailed mine. I think it‘s cool that we both zeroed in on how close in we are... 🇨🇦🇺🇸 5y

🖤 I am afraid I am so far out of the new releases loop! I have no idea what is due for release.😬😬😬

🖤🖤 tagged book. Keep in‘ it real.... I have cooked NOTHING from this gorgeous book. I was put off because the first recipe required pomegranate molasses! Say what now?! I knew i would never be able to find it. I was wrong.

#litsybitsy
My teenage boys came with me on all my walks this past weekend. No chance of an audio walk with them! So rare that they voluntarily just hang out with me ....there was bound to be some talking! And there was.
Back to my solitary audio walks on the weekdays!
6k today.
Anne in this one is driving me crazy and I also feel so aggrieved for Dora!

Cuilin Wonderful. Great picture. 5y

Look at that bright bit of green on a grey day. (Channeling my inner cheery Anne). First time the hash tags blend.... #heycarrots and #litsybitsy
Nearly 5k and an hour in to this audio book 💚. @Cuilin

I loved first year university! This is a lovely double memory... reading Anne and going away to school! @Flingogal @thegirlwiththelibrarybag
Will try to savour this one a bit more. 😬

Cathythoughts Love the green 👍🏻 5y
runswithscissors007 @Cathythoughts full discosure I used a filter to make it pop in the pic like it did in real life 😬 5y
