Love this feminist twist on the traditional princess story. My class at our women's college used this story as the basis of our May Day play!

I really enjoyed the message of this book which I was surprised to see from an older book. It challenges gender norms and emphasizes problem solving which I enjoy.

The reason this book has been historically banned are atrocious. This is a classic story of a princess who saves not just herself, but the prince as well. The problem, for this reader, is that the prince is a narcissistic A55#013 who cannot see beyond the vain. He tells the princess, who just saved him, that a paper bag is a horrible thing to wear and to come back when better dressed. As a woman, I stand behind ⬇

LibrarianRyan this princess kicking that horrible prince to the curb. And that is why this book is banned. I thought it would be for the nearly naked illustration, but no, because it subverts gender norms. Because the princess is the savior, and wont kowtow to the prince. UGGGHHH. I love this book. This book should not be banned, it should be celebrated. It is a classic for a reason and will be loved by generations to come. 2y
Bookzombie I love this book too. I read in the anniversary edition, I think, that originally the princess punched the prince but that changed before publication. Part of me wants that version, hehe. 2y
LibrarianRyan @Bookzombie I'll have to work. This was an older copy before the anniversary. But off to ILL i go! 2y

This book is a fairytale with a surprise ending. This book shows girls that they don‘t need to end up with a prince to be happy and they can have the bare minimum to be happy, and don‘t need to follow what society says.

This story is a spin on a classic fairytale involving a princess, prince, and a dragon. Princess Elizabeth does everything she can to save her prince, only to find out he's not what she is looking for. I loved reading this book and I think it has a great message for children. It is silly with an even better meaning.

This book was published in 1980, and is a humorous take on a fairytale. The story follows a princess and a dragon, and the princess saves the prince from a burning fire. The prince is incredibly rude to the princess, and she decides not to marry him. I will definitely use this book in my classroom!

This book is all about reversing princess stereotypes. Princess Elizabeth is set to marry Prince Ronald, but a dragon attacks the castle and kidnaps Ronald. Elizabeth must save him from the dragon so they can get married. She does what she can to make the dragon tired so she can sneak past him to save Ronald. When she does save Ronald, he is not nice to her and she leaves him and they do not get married. It shows that a princess can be a hero too.

Read this old used copy of a classic to my baby in the wee hours of the morning today. I hadn't read it in years and it was just as great as I remembered. The ending where she tells off the prince (who she rescued from a dragon!) for criticizing her not looking like a princess anymore is hilarious. "Ronald you are a bum." Hahaha. Also love how she outsmarts the dragon. Dressing up as her remains my best Halloween costume.

This F book follows Princess Elizabeth, who is completely enamored with the snobby but charming Prince Ronald. When Ronald is snatched up by a dragon who destroys her castle & her clothes, she puts on the only thing she can find: a paper bag, & heads off to save Prince Ronald. This is one of my absolute favorite books, as it teaches the importance of self love & self worth, & not to allow people to make you feel bad about yourself #UCFLAE3414F19

JennaMichelleCohn This book would be great for UDL 9.1, “promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation,” and UDL 9.3, “develop self-assessment and reflection,” because it teaches readers to love themselves as they are despite what others say. ESOL strategy 3, “encourage self-talk (positive thinking),” would be great here because the story revolves around a positive mindset and offers a positive message. This book would be great for RA and RT. (edited) 5y
YvetteE I love this book! We did an assignment that involved paper bags trimmed with either dragon or princess cutouts. One of the female students wanted a dragon, but the para told her she had to do a princess; WRONG, I know. The little girl ended up drawing a princess with war face paint and dragon-like eyes! Definitely a memorable book! 5y

“The Paper Bag Princess” by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Michael Martchenko, is a F picture book great for S. This is not your typical Prince saved the Princess fairytale.
