I was always curious about this book because of The Jane Austen book club. I don‘t read sci-fi often and the 1st half of the book didn‘t do it for me but I kept reading and I‘m so glad I did. This story kinda sneaks up on you and I loved it. There is so much to unpack in this story of an alien going to a new planet hoping to form an alliance. His presence causes fear, excitement and betrayal. It‘s so well written and ultimately a hero‘s journey.

I absolutely love this movie and was excited about reading the book. All the elements were there, but this isn‘t the same story. My biggest disappointment was the Aunts. They‘re favourite characters for me and they aren‘t main characters. Also they seem colder and older. Saly and Gillian don‘t even live with them or do magic. Anyway, I‘m so glad that this story produced the movie and can‘t wait to see number 2, but I didn‘t enjoy it as much.

Brilliant! This is the most complicated operation Charlotte and her lovable team have ever executed. I‘d never be able to guess all the moving parts and it made it thrilling to the end. If you haven‘t read other books you may get lost because many characters from the past resurface. She does a good job with reminders without interrupting the book, but if this is your 1st one you‘d be overwhelmed. But for the rest of us it‘s amazing!💗 this series!

This book was excellent, especially for anyone with narcissistic trauma. I really liked how its for the survivors/victims of this kind of abuse. The beginning outlines the narcissistic personality traits and the type of people that attract them. It was informative but also disheartening, but stick with it because she gives you so many tools/strategies and ways to determine if the relationships you‘re in are also narcissistic. So, worth the read!

This was the 1st romance we‘ve done on Book Interrupted and honestly I‘ve read better. I usually love the hate to love narrative being a huge P&P fan, but it was just okay. The movie wasn‘t good. They casted Josh all wrong and ruin the best scene in the book: the elevator. But, the podcast discussion was super fun. We talked about pick-up artists, incels, bad guys and does adding some crime to the romance make it more enjoyable?

This was an excellent book that I couldn‘t put down. I‘ve read the Sociopath Next Door and this book adds insight, facts and personal experience from the sociopaths perspective. She explains how she experiences the world and how our culture has failed to understand people with sociopathy. I hope her research is able to help those feeling lost within their condition. I loved the Jessica Rabbit analogy “I‘m not bad, I was just drawn that way.”

I almost bailed in the beginning, because Linus‘s life working for the Department in charge of Magical Youth was super sad & boring. I‘m glad I stuck with it because his life is supposed to be that way for contrast and makes the ending more delightful. The magical children at the orphanage were hilarious and endearing. This is where the story really starts. Arthur was my favourite character and as the book evolves he only gets even more lovable.

This book has it all for any book lover. It has famous bookshops, authors and books. It has magic, history and 2 timelines. The main storylines are excellent. A search for a manuscript, a bookshop and freedom. The 3 main characters are brave, but also put in very difficult life situations. Opaline, Martha and Henry are all lovable characters that you are cheering for. There are twists in the story as well. Plus, it had a satisfying ending.

I enjoyed this book but some of the words that were used for the steamy parts put me off a little. Corrie is an excellent female character, she is smart, assertive and adventurous. I like the whole Indiana Jones vibes but with Corrie as the Indy even though Ford was named after him. Lost treasure, ancient Aztec culture, jungles of Mexico; it was all appealing. There is also a good twist at the end that escalates the whole story which was great.

This book was excellent. Vera‘s character is delightful. She actually reminds me of a friend of mine; brutally honest, assertive and loving. All the characters or “suspects”are lovable as well and I was rooting for each one and had sympathy for each of their stories. Also, it really makes you crave good tea, you‘ve been warned. I‘m so glad that a sequel is coming out next year I will definitely read it. I wasn‘t ready to let Vera go.

I loved the ending and the beginning, actually. It was a slow book and sometimes I wondered at the direction but it was always intriguing and beautifully written. I was very invested in all the characters and knowing their stories. There were mysteries upon mysteries. The author also took you to dark places, but the innocence of the main character grounded the narrative in hope. It had all the feels. Keep with it when it slows, it‘s worth it.

I was torn between pick and so-so. This is my 2nd read and my kids love it, but reading it out loud sucks. I love Roald Dahl and usually love his made up words but the giant only speaks in them. So my kids stop me from reading to discuss what does he mean? Eventually I just read the words he was intending to say so we could get into the story and just said some like phizzwizard. I had to skip ahead on the read-along. I won‘t spoil for those who are still reading. I love all the “Earls”on the trip. If only there were more men like them back then in power positions. I enjoyed how the author introduced topics/lifestyles that are normalized now and how that would translate into their era. All in all, it was a very enjoyable story and I didn‘t mind the slow burn once I got into the book. Plus Clem and Archie were precious.

I read the audiobook so I‘m not sure if it was how they used different actors for the voices of the main characters based on the narrative, but it really bothered me and I just couldn‘t get into it. I also felt sentiments were repeated too often and some things explained that didn‘t need explanation. I liked the concept of the book and the characters, it was the inconsistency of the audiobook and some of the dialogue that inevitably had me bail.

Karma Brown was on our podcast and mentioned she was working on this book. It didn‘t disappoint. This book is about the wild woman archetype and Eddie is the perfect representation in my opinion. I wish she was real and I wish her Wild Women camp existed so I could attend. I love all the nature and bird references, but mostly I loved the thoughts and feelings it evoke to stay true to my wild women. There is more to this story than meets the eye.

I‘m really enjoying Emily Henry books for “clearing the palate” so to speak. They are light enjoyable books. The characters are developed fully. They have flaws and problems that they‘re overcoming in addition to the love story. I liked Book Lovers better but over all I enjoyed reading this book. It‘s a perfect summer time read. All of her books are. I heard that many of her books will be made into movies. I think they‘ll transition to film well!

This book had everything I like in a murder mystery. It was a double mystery with one being a cold case. I liked how it went back and forth to the past. I also enjoyed all the character development from both eras and how they‘d changed. It‘s set in a small English village and includes inheritances, fortune telling and a time limit to solve the whodunnit. It was enjoyable and light. It read delightfully like a traditional British murder mystery.

This is the perfect summer read. It was very light and fun. Harriet and Wyn had great chemistry, which was delightful. I liked how it went back and forth between the past to build the story of not only them but the friendships too. This wasn‘t just a romance but actually a love story of friendship. People being there for each other and the messiness of authentic relationships. It wasn‘t complicated, kinda a coming of age story, figuring out life.

I enjoyed this book. I didn‘t feel like it was as disturbing at the end as The Maidens, by I can now see that his writing style is layering twist at the end. Which I do enjoy. Some were obvious to me others were a complete surprise. He does make you question everyone and what is it that he‘s hiding. He also showed in both books the two sides of childhood trauma playing out. I also continue to love that it has a backdrop of Greece and its myths.

This one was a proper mystery and not necessarily a continuation of the Moriarty storyline, however it still had some of that danger in the background. I enjoyed this one which isn‘t a surprise. I‘m completely hooked on this series. As usual there is some twists revealed in the end which just make this series a gem. All the beloved characters are back. I liked how the author finally gave Lady Holmes the karma she deserved. Can‘t wait for the next!

A friend of mine loves Isabel Allende and has read every book of hers, but in Spanish. This is my first book and it‘s a pick. The theme of refugees and the different histories she included were powerful and heart-wrenching. I loved how all the stories came together in the end. I wasn‘t sure if she‘d be able to do it at the beginning. There seemed to be too many storylines but she did it beautifully by the end. The end was sad but also satisfying.

This was another enjoyable book in the series. Some of the twists were obvious, but I still enjoyed them when they were revealed. I really like Audrey and Hughes relationship. I also think the character development of the side characters continue to be good. Greer got some of the spotlight this book which I liked and I always want more of Sir. Also, the continuation of the tension with Cassie and Thornton was appreciated. I‘ll continue reading.

It wasn‘t what I expected. I thought this non-fiction science book would be dry and kinda boring, it was neither. It was an amazing book that went back and forth between the story of Henrietta Lacks, the science behind HeLa and the Lacks family. It was an amazing story. I read 100 pages on the first day as if it was a thrilling fiction book, but it‘s real. There was so much upsetting and incredible about this story; an important read for all

Amazing! I‘ve been recommended this book for at least 20 years. I‘ve always meant to read it, but I think I finally read this book at the perfect time in my life. It was immensely inspiring. I finished it very quickly and reread parts. I didn‘t write this review until now because it was all still sinking in. If you feel like you‘re in a slump or at a crossroads read this book. It will remind you of the great journey of life and guide you forward.

This was so much better than the series and Queen Charolette is my favourite Bridgeton series on Netflix, which says something because I love the show. I thought because Shonda Rhimes also wrote the book that is would be a carbon copy, but I should have known better. There is always so much more details and scenes that are cut out of the book for an adaptation. If you want to learn more about this couple I highly recommend reading the book. 😍

I just love this series. This book brings together everything from the previous books and put Charolette against Moriarty. He was always in the outskirts of every investigation but now he has “hired” Charolette for his own investigation. A new character Moriarty‘s daughter is introduced and I love her. I really like all the strong female characters in this series. They are tough but also endearing. Also the love stories are advancing nicely. 🥰

I read this book because it was an independent book store recommendation for the book of the year. I liked it more than I expected being about dragons. It was so much more than a fantasy book. I think it does a great portrayal of what colonization does and how backwards it feels and is. And most importantly how completely unfair. The dragons are great too. I looked for the sequel but no release date yet, but I‘ll wait with “bated breath”.

This was my book pick on this ‘books with movies‘ season of Book Interrupted. This is an amazing true story of a 5 year old in India that got caught on a train and ultimately got lost. He got adopted by a family in Australia and then 25 years later because of Google Earth was able to find home again. This is an incredible story with an unbelievably happy ending. The book was slow in places and the movie changed some things but I enjoyed both.

It‘s my first Alex Michaelides read. It was suggested to me because how much I loved Psyche and Eros. I did like the Greek mythology in it and the symbolism, but the end was so disturbing. It was surprising and I still didn‘t get it until it was clearly explained in the book. I had to go back and reread spots in the book for the clues after I finished. I also liked all the psychology in it. But for me, I always want a happy ending and it wasn‘t.

I absolutely loved every minute of this book. I‘m not sure if it‘s because I‘ve been using a mystic tarot deck for the last 20 yrs, but all the Greek myths are familiar to me so it was a joy every time a new God or Goddess was introduced. Psyche and Eros‘s story is one of my favourite and this adaptation was brilliant being in both their voices. It‘s one of those books that you‘re disappointments that it‘s over although it had a satisfying ending.

This book had a good concept but I just didn‘t feel the heat between Sebastian and Mia, especially enough to cause all the inner turmoil Mia experienced. Plus, Sarah was clearly uninterested. The end felt rushed and the catalyst wasn‘t set up enough to inspire. I think the characters needed more developing and there wasn‘t enough tension for this romance to work for me, but if you‘re looking for a romance with little drama this is the one for you.

I can‘t get enough of this series! I really loved how Inspector Treadles had a complete turnaround last book and how it was demonstrated in this one with his complete faith in Charolette‘s capabilities. I also adored the scenes between Mrs.Treadles and Mrs.Watson. It was so lovely, every book makes me fall deeper in love with Mrs Watson‘s character. The love mishaps last book haven‘t been resolved but they‘re developing so I‘m excited to read on.
