Very similar to his Memoirs except for the first story but I won‘t spoil the surprise. My favorite amongst the 13 tales was The Second Stain. A high profile case that could have led to A World War or scandal had it not been for the inquisitive Holmes and his ever curious side-kick Watson. An enjoyable read. Highly recommended for a bus ride to work as you could easily get through one tale in a half hours time.

Since I love everything Sherlock I much expected to enjoy this short story. I did.
The great thing about Doyle, is that because we're used to the way Sherlock Holmes speaks, there's very little dialogue that's misunderstood

sixgun @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I've read more this week of the classics than I did in the 5 years prior. I love this thing!! 5y

It's been a while, but I got back into reading through Sherlock. My only complaint about this collection of short stories is how abruptly each of them ends. But, since they were probably published as serials in a magazine or a newspaper, there was probably a word count range. ⭐⭐⭐✨/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I just finished reading “The Adventure of the Second Stain.” Very interesting resolution, especially because we once again see Sherlock‘s compassionate side. I‘ve enjoyed this collection. Thanks to everyone who joined this round of #sherlocked!

I‘m having trouble tagging, but I hope that those who are interested will continue reading the Sherlock canon with me in the future.

I finished “The Adventure of the Second Stain” this morning, wrapping up another great Sherlock Holmes short story collection. I think my favorites of this set were “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons” and “The Adventure of the Golden Prince-Nez,” but I enjoyed almost all of them. I liked the variety, as well as seeing the more intuitive and compassionate aspects of Holmes.

I am torn on this one. There were things I liked, yet for some reason I didn‘t truly enjoy it. It may be partly that I tried on audio first while replacing knives on the hay conditioner, then realized I wasn‘t concentrating enough and started over in #SerialReader when I got home. It also felt somewhat predictable to me in that the easy answer being wrong was too obvious.

#Sherlocked #readalong #BooksontheFarm

JazzFeathers Really? This may possibly be my favourite. I really like the interchange of true and false stories and the way characters chose their destiny. 6y

Next up for #sherlocked: “The Adventure of The Abbey Grange.” When a man appears to have been killed by burglars, Sherlock is asked to examine the scene.

Daisey I just downloaded this with Serial Reader to start later today! 6y
jpmcwisemorgan Yup! I wonder if the police will listen to Sherlock for a change. 6y
tjwill @jpmcwisemorgan Past experience makes me think it unlikely, but they ARE asking for help, so that‘s something. 😉 6y
CoffeeNBooks I thought this was an interesting one. I liked Holmes' logic in unraveling the story and figuring out the truth. 6y

Finished this story this afternoon and I‘m impressed by how much I‘m enjoying this collection. I did not expect it to be as good as the earlier ones, but I think I like it just as well. I found the rugby confusion and the doctor‘s ability to elude Holmes added quite a bit of humor to this story for me.

Something tells me Sherlock might agree with Henry Miller on #travel - “One's destination is never a place, but always a new way of seeing things.” Sherlock likes to see the scene of a crime for himself. I wonder what‘s in Norway?

In this #mystery we see Sherlock‘s curiosity and, as noted by Einstein, “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.”

I'm behind with everything. I'm two stories behind in the #Sherlocked readalong (tried to listen to one yesterday as work, but it was impossible) l'm behind of three or four section in the #YearOfTolkien readalong, but trying to catch up this weekend.

Getting ready to start “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons” for #sherlocked. This one has busts of Napoleon being destroyed, which reminds me that the BBC Sherlock uses busts of Margaret Thatcher in adapting this story.

I watched the episode of Charles Augustus Milverton (changed to Magnusson), as recommended by @jpmcwisemorgan and I liked how it used the original story. I‘m hoping this story is as good as that one was.

Well, as l was at that, l thought l might just as well finish the story 😆

I enjoyed it. The mystery was clever, but what l enjoyed the most was that unusual (for me) attitudine by Holmes to trust what he 'feels' more than what he 'sees'.
Another feature that makes him different (and more human and endearing) than l expected him to be.

Daisey Agreed, it‘s nice to see him go with what he feels, but it was also very much because they evidence was too obvious that he knew it had to be something more. 6y

tjwill Good catch. I missed that or just forgot. Also, it looks like you‘ve got a lot done! How big is your farm? 6y
JazzFeathers I noticed thst passage, but l dudn't think it referred to Watson's wife. I think l know too little abouth these characters' life at the moment 😶 6y

Daisey @tjwill @JazzFeathers @Mdargusch I caught the comment about moving in he current story, but I had to go to the internet for help finding the reference in the previous story. 6y
Daisey @tjwill My family farms almost 1500 acres row crops, but I honestly don‘t know how much hay in all the random hill fields in the local area. We baled quite a few round bales and just 300 square bales yesterday with more ready today. 6y
DivineDiana So much more challenging than audio walking, I would think!🤔 6y
Daisey @DivineDiana it just depends on the day. Today, I helped bring equipment to the field, but now I have wait time before we load the bales and therefore have a little time for reading and Litsy. The day of this photo, Dad had enough of a head start on baling that I got no break in between. 6y
