My stack for this weekend's @24in48. I was trying to play it safe with picks because reading has been hard for me to focus on lately 😔. My non-fiction audiobook for book club will be a tough one to power through regardless the awesome subject... I'm not a huge fan so far (not pictured). (Continued in comments) #24in48readathon

LitDrivenGirl cont. I was excited to see Ellery Adam's third book (not pictured) was available to listen to... I definitely can do with a sweet cozy bookish mystery. Not going to lie, I could totally read Giant Days ALL DAY LONG because it makes my heart so happy 🥰. I have a few digital ARCs I may shoot for too. Happy #24in48 this weekend! 5y

Goes to library for one hold pickup and a of couple movies... leaves with no movies and 3 books instead 😏😅. I started The Need last night and I wish I could hermit myself away to keep reading it, very engaging from the start. I'm grudgingly reading the Roberts book (eventually) and Emily St. John Mandel recommended Dan Chaon the other day on GR. Coincidentally she has a shout out on The Need too 🤩.

Well this is the first #24in48 #not24in48 I haven't accomplished. However, after a very rough week my mind and body needed a reading weekend with my sisters. We were able to get a hotel room and lock ourselves away all weekend to read, eat, laugh, and talk. I could have reached 24 hours, but by 10:30 PM yesterday I was exhausted (the whole week catching up to me). I managed to finish six books (which was my goal). I almost finished my (cont.)

LitDrivenGirl second goal of 2 books per format. 2 paper ✅, 2 audiobooks ✅, 2 graphic novels ✅, & I didn't make it to 2 eBooks. I only separate it like that in my mind to help read more of what I have & typically I horde graphic novels as treats so that I don't devour & then am sad I have no more in a particular series. Otherwise all reading (formats) in my mind is reading! Hopefully summer #24in48 will be back in action & I'll be able to achieve it! 🧡 5y

Perhaps my most difficult 2020 resolution, goal, punishment, mountain to climb, is my self-declared aim to not purchase any books, new or used this year. My sister was to quick to be a good sister/bibliophile/enabler and say "Well you can't buy books for yourself, but that doesn't mean I can't buy you books ?!" In 2019 I said I could buy 1 new book a month and buy as many secondhand that I could lay my hands on and I took that to heart. (cont.)

LitDrivenGirl I succeeded & realized there are SO MANY books on my shelves I haven't read yet & financially I really need to situate myself in a more positive direction. This is difficult for me because buying books is what I do for a living (that won't stop for the shop) & I usually get first pick. Buying books brings me a great deal of happiness & now I need to focus my "happiness getting" in other ways ?. What are you aiming for in your 2020 reading lives? 5y

It's Oscars season at my house. Which means taking on the challenge of watching all the nominations before the awards 😳! I'm working on the shortlist because this year we will have the shortest amount of time between announcement (Jan. 13) & awards (Feb. 9) to watch all. This documentary is wonderful! Truly inspiring and I wish I could have met Toni. It should be shortlisted for Best Documentary, but it is only up for Best Song. Watch it on Hulu!

We're trying to read a galley about kickass babysitters, but Page is having issues staying comfortable. Hence laying on my eReader. She got stung by a bee this morning, on her eye and ear. She loves chasing them and this time they decided enough...she didn't though, even after being stung she continued to chase them. Aside from itching and swelling she seems fine, but I think she wanted to prove she's a kickass babysitter's sidekick 😎🐶🐝🦸‍♀️.

I sent the above to my sister and said: Romance gets a bad rep because they have sexy covers... but Westerns put it on the BACK. ?

She said I needed to share on book social. P.S. No judgment about either genre, but I find it funny (peculiar) that one and not the other is "allowed" to have sexy covers and receives no backlash (as far as I have ever heard)...while the other not so much.

LitDrivenGirl P.P.S. I'm working on the Western shelf at the shop for the new inventory system. The Western genre is something else... especially old Westerns 🤪. 5y

"There's no graduating from this kind of education, couples just keep growing and changing until they either break up or die."

Final challenge for #24in48 is my favorite read from the weekend. I had high hopes for my stack, but ultimately most of my picks were so-so. HOWEVER, Saga Volume 5 (and 4) did not disappoint. I literally had a smile on my face the entire time I read it!

LitDrivenGirl I've read graphic novels for only a few years now and Saga continues to feel like a home. There are characters to love and characters to wish to be more like. There is art and writing that continues revolves in your mind for days after. Begging you to revisit the world and encouraging you to create your own. It was a really bright moment of my weekend to indulge in two more volumes of the series. I don't think I can wait to keep reading ❤. 5y

Audiobooks were a difficult sell for me, but thankfully 4 or 5 years ago I got over my preconceived notions. Now they help fill out my reading life. Between odd jobs, life, & more jobs audiobooks are necessary for making the tasks easier & less of a "hey you're robbing me of precious reading time" feels. Multitasking for the win, especially for jobs that require 5 AM wake up & work lifestyle! I can't believe I hung out laundry today #24in48 ?⬇️.

LitDrivenGirl I've been a long time Scribd user, through its many business models. It's in my favorite version right now, all you can eat for 1 monthly fee as long as you don't surpass the undisclosed "read too many" limit (it's a mystery). We live in a wonderful time to get our reading through so many formats & of the á la carte variety. I use Libro.fm, Hoopla, & occasionally purchase from Google Books too. A few favorites I even have on CD ?? #audiobooks 5y
Molly_the_mezzo I‘ve recently gotten on board for much the same reasons, but what I can‘t reconcile is how much longer it takes than if I were reading it myself. It has NEVER taken me ten hours to read a cozy mystery, lol. 5y
LitDrivenGirl @Molly_the_mezzo yes and if the narrator isn't great then it seems to DRAG ON AND ON 😅. It helps to adjust the speed on the audiobook though for me. 5y

Pickpick

I credit Sarah MacLean (by way of Book Riot) with my giving the romance genre a chance and not being disappointed in the slightest. Years ago when I started reading her books she really helped me to grow comfortable with reading romance, enjoying it, and not being ashamed. This is a huge reason why I echo to friends and customers to read what you want to read.

Sarah is at it again! (Continued in comments)

LitDrivenGirl I liked book one of 'The Bareknuckle Bastards' so much I passed my copy on to a friend and told her to read it and keep passing it on. Hoping I could win over another would be Sarah MacLean fan. Little did I know I could and would like book 2 of the series even more!?!

I don't believe there is anything more refreshing than an honest, looks like me (or so I imagined while reading), heroine who refuses to be put on a pedestal and be saved.(Cont.)
6y
LitDrivenGirl She's a keeper...or rather the safer *wink*. It is easy to get swept up in a romance novel and forget that beautiful people are falling in love with other beautiful perfect people with minor bumps in their story along the way. Hattie and Beast are no ugly ducklings, but to me they felt more human and less perfect romance and happily ever after. The struggle was frustrating, but that's because it is supposed to be. (Cont.) 6y
LitDrivenGirl More literal and accessible because it isn't so formulaic. I didn't know before I started reading their story how much I wanted/needed to see a character who looks and feels more like me and who I want to be, on the page.

Thank you to the publisher for a review copy!

I started this book in 2013 or maybe 2012? It makes much more sense now why I never finished it. Although miraculously I now can say I finished it! I picked it back up for the shop's book club and because of my reading system selection was to finish a book I had put down. I'm still amazed I finished reading this story. This has also taught me I no longer will be ashamed of not wholeheartedly loving Jane Austen's writing.
