Devon Tennyson wouldn't change a thing. She's happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon's cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn't want them - first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life. Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about love - for the unexpected boy, for a new brother, and for yourself.

Still on my TBR this YA novel is tagged as “Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights” so it seems a good one for today‘s #Sports prompt. 🏈

First, Mikala Im sorry for being a horrible, disorganized slacker. I just went to organize my books for this month for LMPBC and buddy reads etc, and realized you sent this (in my brain it was for LMPBC) to me- thank you so much for your thoughtfulness!!! I should be much better now that school ends in one week and I graduate in Two. Hope you are having beautiful weather and spring flowers 🧡🧡⭐️⭐️🧡🧡😘

Laughterhp No worries! I‘m glad it made it there and I hope you enjoy it! 4y

#QuotsyMar20 #education

I felt the same way about P.E. In high school. 😆

“As far as I was concerned, physical education was evil. You take a bunch of teenagers, make them strip down in front of each other in a locker room, have them don hideous matching uniforms, and then measure their worth based on their ability to chuck balls at a net, into a hoop, or at each other. It was just. Evil.”

Lcsmcat Agree! 5y
Crazeedi Omg this was so me in high school, I HATED pe, the stupid one piece uniforms, the locker room etc 5y

All of a sudden, like an out-of-body experience, I saw myself saving tables for us in the cafeteria. Grabbing an extra side of something I knew he liked as I went through the lunch line. Calling him before bed-it was really always me who called him, wasn‘t it?-making playlists for Valentine‘s Day and pretending I didn‘t care he never gave me anything back. All those times I sat in the bleachers at practice: faithful, #hopeful, deluded.#QuotsyFeb20

#QuotsyFeb20 #champion

“Where you been, Champ? I didn‘t see you all summer. What have you been doing with yourself?”

Admittedly, champ was usually the kind of endearment passive-aggressive dudebros called each other, but Jordan claimed it was short for “champion of my heart,” and I may or may not have melted a little each time he said it.

Another book in my Kindle #TBR 📚📚📚📚📚

If this had been the first Emma Mills book I read, I am not sure I would have gone on to read her others, as this one lacked a lot of the snarky banter that has endeared me to her other works. However, this is still a thoughtful, enjoyable read with a likable narrator.

This is a light-hearted, quick read. It‘s simply witty, funny, charming, delightful and an all-round feel good read. Especially good if you need a break from heavier topics. This was a real treat. Just precious.

Happy book mail to me! So excited for some of these backlist reads!!

Nute I try to deliberately pay attention to books that I had planned to read a long time ago but never got around to. I prefer to go there first prior to the attraction of current bestselling books. 4y

5/5 stars. The line on the back of the book and the reason i picked up the book reads “Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights...” And is that the best description for this book. However, the friendship and sibling relationships that grow in this book really surprised me and made the book for me!

Even though football isn't my thing this book was good. It is about relationships between family, friends and new romance. It references Jane Austin probably as much as High School football and was a quick easy read.

"It couldn't get any better than this. My Willoughby, distraught at the news of Marianne's sudden illness, shows up at their house intoxicated, begging to see her. It was tense and dramatic and somehow, although two hundred years previous, still totally relevant. It was the drunken text message to an ex two centuries before such a thing existed." #senseandsensibility

So I started and finished this yesterday and it was such a light contemporary read! Devon was so real and relatable, and she was witty but not overly so. She had her awkward moments and I loved it. The one thing that did bother me about the book is that there wasn't a lot of closure or resolution. I would still recommend it if you need a pick-me-up book tho:-)

Book 12. There was a lot of set up here for some of the background characters to have bigger, more interesting stories and it just went unfilled. Nice light read though. I would have liked to have known what happened with the pregnant girl though.

So this wasn't the best book but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. It was very cute but the ending was just too abrupt for me. Plus the cover is beautiful. I am currently reading another Emma Mills book "This Adventure Ends" (also a very pretty cover) and loving it.

4/5 🌟 It was a very cute read, full of a lot of real problems and a lot of stuff we tend to sweep under the rug; stuff that isn't usually mentioned in books.

The characters were all amazing and I feel like they all grew and learned about themselves while learning from each other and it was kind of awesome to witness. Emma Mills, this was a beautiful debut novel.

Pitched as Pride and Prejudice + Friday Night Lights: This was a cute, quick read. I didn't love every character but I LOVED the one who takes on the Darcy-like role. Lots of family friends + football in here! I added the audio (read by the author) but I personally think print-only is the way to go.

Peddler410 With all these Pride & Prejudice-esque books out right now I should really add it to the top of my TBR list so I can better enjoy these others. 🙂 8y
CynCruz23 What an interesting combo of things I love! Added to my TBR 👍 8y
intothehallofbooks @Peddler410 I started this one after I had started P&P and actually finished them both on the same day! There are plenty of Austen references in here but in reality you don't technically have to read P&P first. But there DO seem to be a ton of P&P-esque books out now, you're so right! 8y
intothehallofbooks @CynCruz23 I was surprised at how much Austen + football there was in here. I thought that was a strange (or maybe lofty?) comparison, but it was actually a fairly accurate one as far as comparisons go! Hope you enjoy it when you pick it up. 😊 8y

Loving this YA book-- it has surprised me with nice Jane Austen references and likeable (and likeably unlikeable-- think: Darcyesque) characters. 😊 Hoping for more time to read it today...
