so-so3 💫💫💫 This novel was a bit too convoluted for me. There's 7 different characters with different issues. There's nothing much about technology except that there's evil on the internet. The one character doesn't even have a smartphone. There's nothing in detail about the illegal underground internet stuff, like the weird stuff people buy on the dark web from criminals. #Horror #Halloween #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
pickThis book was not what I was expecting, in the best kind of way!
panI‘ve enjoyed multiple books by Percy and the premise of this one sounded fun, but I thought this book was pretty bad. The plot is scattered and doesn‘t make good use of the ideas haphazardly laid out. It‘s gratuitously gory and gruesome. There are multiple female characters, which is great, but the book‘s treatment of them makes it hard to tell if it‘s misogyny or misanthropy at work.
Funny book pair but maybe horror is hygge for some??
so-soThis one was disappointing. Some genuinely creepy stuff combined with technological paranoia, but the characters are poorly drawn and the plot unfolds too quickly for a real sense of dread to build (that being said, if it had been longer I might not have finished). It's a shame because I think there was a really good book in there somewhere but this feels like a first draft or a treatment for the film version. ⭐️⭐️1/2
I love Benjamin Percy‘s recent work on Green Arrow, and his werewolf book Red Moon was pretty great, so I‘m giving this techno-horror novel a shot.
A friend of mine recommended I read this but when I went to my library to get it, they didn't have it. Well boo. I decided to request it, and this is what they said! That's good right? I've never requested a book for them before.

pickIt wasn't the cyber crime book I expected going by the description but still a good read. It was more of a horror story with dark religious overtones to it. The Dark Net is a small part of the story but not as much as you think. If you can get past that it is a good, short read.
panThis book started off decent enough, interesting characters, nice pacing, but man did things go south in the last 80 pages. I️ hate not finishing books, but I️ kinda wish I️ hadn‘t finished this one. There was so much nonsense in the last 80 pages, I️ kept thinking, well, it can‘t get worse than that. pickWhen I began reading this novel, I thought it was a straight-forward cyber-hacking thriller. I nearly put it down, because I just wasn‘t in the mood, and I didn‘t care for the reporter character. I am glad I stuck with it for a few more pages, because it dropped into a strange supernatural battle between good and evil. I needed a propulsive plot and characters that I wanted to make it to the end, and that is what I got.
Post 1 of 2: So today was a banner book today for the wife and I! We drive about 90 minutes to a two-story Barnes and Nobel in Rochester NY today. Our plan was to just take the day and enjoy the books. Well mission accomplished!!! These posts are just my book haul. I bought some awesome cyber security books, and a leatherbound classic edition of The Star Wars Trilogy (see next post).
pickBenjamin Percy's horror novel neatly brings traditional occult themes into the social media age in this fast-paced and enjoyable story with some great ideas that's marred only by a disposable supporting cast and an ending that didn't quite satisfy me.
Just started this and afraid it's going to give me the willies. The digital willies? Is that a thing? Anyway, great tone setting and I can tell these characters have potential.
so-soThe Dark Net has a wonderfully intriguing prologue! This did a wonderful job of drawing me in and I was hooked for quite a while. Unfortunately, things started to go downhill for me around page 75. Even so, I still enjoyed this read.

pickI was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book as I don't normally read a lot of horror. At first I thought it was going to be more about technology and the Dark Net but it's definitely more focused on the supernatural and how demons etc invade the digital world. A quick yet enjoyable horror book!
