My 2nd book in satisfying the TB curiosity. After I knew Anne's pov in 'the stranger beside me', I moved to Liz's and Molly's. To say it was eerie would be an understatement. Anne really undermined Liz as a character. There were few really creepy facts and instances. And to top it all was Molly's POV at the end. It gave me chills, the whole creepiness of the person TB was and the life he led. A great insight and a good read.

Like many true crime readers, I‘ve consumed a lot of material about Ted Bundy over the years, but listening to this from the woman who was his partner and really thinking about what went through Liz‘s head at so many different points was really thought provoking and uncomfortable. Her writing is very clear and emotional, and it‘s a valuable voice to hear. It really makes me think hard about what it means to consume writing about stuff like this.

IndianBookworm Also her daughter Molly's POV at the end. It made me creep out so much. 2y

I read this in January 2021 and still remember the chills I got during the read as well as after keeping it down. Ted Bundy, as we all know, is one of the most talked about names in the world of serial killers but this book has so much more to offer than what you think you know about him. You will start feeling different about him without you even realising it and that in my opinion is the beauty of this book.

This was so interesting. I've read alot about Ted but seeing it from the eyes of the person who loved him is a whole different experience. You always wonder "How did you not know?" "How could you be so blind?" Well, here's your answer

A few hours setting time later and I have 2 refreshed candles and a new jar full of wax melts!

It smells like a fancy brothel in here so I might as well switch out all my wax while I get everything cleaned up. Then it's off to relax and hopefully finish my book for the rest of the night.

Happy Sunday!

jessjess Do you make your own wax melts?? 3y
FantasyChick @jessjess Sometimes for personal use but today I had a bunch of old candles that needed to be melted down and turned into melts. I hate throwing them out when there's so much life left to them. Candles are expensive 🤣 3y
jessjess @FantasyChick ahh yes I understand- and yes they're expensive! 3y

The other half thinks I'm weird but does anyone else do this? I broke a new candle jar today and that annoys me so I'm spending the afternoon boiling down my old candles to make wax melts and move the new candle into a new jar so it can still be used. Weird as hell or makes perfect sense if you have an hour or so to kill and an audiobook to listen to? 🤣🤣

#audiocandlesaving ?

Laughterhp My husband actually does this!! I don‘t lol 3y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego My BF recently did something similar. 3y
FantasyChick @Laughterhp @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego That's great 🤣 I'm telling mine so he can stop thinking it's weird and start doing it himself. #wishfulthinking 🤣🤣 3y

Anyone else get the overwhelming urge to bake on snow days? Our wonderful neighbour punched a truck sized hole with his blower so hubs can get out to go check on his parents and shovel them out and I've decided to spend the day baking treats. I'll probably pass them off to neighbours and family because I do NOT need all this baking in the house right now but all I want to do today is #audiobake 🎂🍰🧁

Tera66 Yes, absolutely🍪🧁🥖. I love baking, but especially when it's snowing. It just adds to the cozy vibe☃️ 3y

This book was amazing. I‘ve always been interested in TC, Bundy in particular, and Liz does an incredible job of putting you in her position. You don‘t want to think Ted did these things, you have to remind yourself he did. Molly‘s epilogue is fascinating. She tells funny stories of who Ted was as a father figure and then rips you to reality like she was. Completely recommend.

quote
mdolan995

You see yourself withdrawing from people, afraid to establish friendships, loveships (?). I have known people who without saying a word, radiate vulnerability. Their facial expressions say “I am afraid of you.” These people invite abuse. I don‘t know why but they do. Is it their self-concept? By expecting to be hurt fo they subtly encourage it? And if some mental switch could be thrown and tomorrow they expected to be happy..could that happen too?

This is sort of a memoir survivor story of beingTed Bundys‘ lover but also being afraid of him. I didn‘t actually enjoy this but it‘s a really fast read, Elizabeth tells of her relationship with Bundy and her fight with alcoholism and how it contributed to her decisions during that time. The new piece from Molly, her daughter puts it more into perspective the challenges they faced to make it make sense.

I admit a morbid curiosity with this story. I have watched the movie and documentaries and added this to my list. It was a quick read. The recent updates from Liz and Molly really add to the original story.

An interesting book but one I'm not sure I should've read. The focus is on Liz's experiences as the longtime girlfriend of Ted Bundy. In many ways, I think this was her way of processing how the man she loved could also be the horrific serial killer. The afterward & section from her daughter reveal a more nuance & understanding of the manipulation they experienced. Definitely has given me some nightmares but not exactly a typical true crime book.

“Writing this book has been like having a tumor removed from my brain.”

This is a shocking, creepy read! Not long and drawn out, but right to the facts and crazy feelings of their relationship. The ending from Molly Kendall is fascinating.

Bedtime reading.

I‘ve just started the tagged book as a ‘buddy read‘ with my best friend (we bonded over true crime books in our first year at college 😆).

Cathythoughts Looks interesting 😳. I did enjoy The Stranger Beside Me 👍🏻😳 5y
Lizpixie Let me know what you think. I‘ve had my eye on it for awhile, plus there‘s the Netflix series based on it👍 5y
CarolynM BED-time reading? Really? Ugh! It would give me nightmares 😱😱😱 5y

Mdargusch Thankfully I have daughters that are true crime fans but I wish I had a friend that was. 🙃 most of my friends barely read. 5y
LeahBergen @Cathythoughts It‘s good! I read The Stranger Beside Me so many years ago. 5y
LeahBergen @Lizpixie I found it really well done (especially for one of those true crime “my life with...” memoirs). The addition of the recent afterword by the author (she originated wrote this in the 80s before he was executed) and the chapter by her daughter were both so impactful. 5y
LeahBergen @CarolynM 😆😆 Yeah, I turned right to something cozier after I finished it! (edited) 5y
LeahBergen @DebinHawaii It was compelling! The new afterwords by her and her daughter really rounded out the read for me. I don‘t think I would have liked it as much without them. 5y

After watching a 20/20 special on Ted Bundy months ago, I looked for this book by his former girlfriend. Our state library had 1 copy & I waited for 8 months. Worth the wait? Yes, although the writing isn‘t great, Kendall gives an intimate look at the boyfriend who seemed perfect but whose inconsistencies led her to report him to police multiple times only to be ignored or told he was already cleared. Ann Rule‘s book is the standard for Bundy...

DebinHawaii ... books IMO but this one is pretty fascinating. It turns out that an updated version with a new afterward from the author, a chapter from her daughter who was a child at the time, more pictures, etc. is coming out in January. I‘ll read it again for the updates. 👍 (edited) 5y
LeahBergen Ooo, stacked! 5y
peaKnit I watched the 20/20 with Elizabeth Kendall Friday and got the book today. Ted Bundy was a college obsession, so curious about the serial killer mind. And I still can‘t resist. 5y
DebinHawaii @peaknit I definitely want to read the updates. I watched part of Friday‘s 20/20 episode & hope to watch the rest tonight. I also want to watch the Amazon Prime show. It‘s pretty fascinating. 5y

This is from The Phantom Prince, written by Elizabeth Kendall, who was in a long term relationship with Ted Bundy during his murder spree. I can't stop reading! This sentence literally gave me chills.
