5/5⭐ A beautifully written, often funny, always poignant book. The first part is a collection of metaphors for what writing is like, and the rest adds memoir components. Dillard has a wonderful way with words.

Nothing on earth is more gladdening than knowing we must roll up our sleeves and move back the boundaries of the humanly possible once more.
I had forgotten . . . all of wide space and all of historical time. I opened the blinds a crack like eyelids, and it all came exploding in on me at once–oh yes, the world.

#BookNDinner! My road wasn‘t plowed out this morning, so I‘m hoofing it today. Walking home, I thought I‘d grab some grub along the way (WWRD—What Would Reacher Do?), so here I be: bacon cheeseburger, fries, and some hot tea! MMMmmmm 😋! Happy reads & happy eats 😎👌🏻! (Tagged book is an audiobook I‘m listening to.)
What‘s in the box? Well, I don‘t know yet. I‘ve somehow managed to postpone opening it so I could create this post but I‘m extremely excited to take a look at the contents! This is my first @goscribbler box, after pining away for it for a long time, and I‘m so glad we were finally able to rationalize the expense. As much as I love suspense, I won‘t leave you in it all day. I‘ll do a reveal photo this afternoon!
Very sad situation here in Korea. Keep Koreans in your thoughts and prayers.... And I see a short story in this; can‘t help it... #prayforKorea #virus #writetslife
1️⃣ I got results in English, but not in French.
2️⃣ "Underlined or Italicized"
3️⃣ Yes. I have, am and will be writing books.
4️⃣ Non-fiction, for my job. Fiction, because who else is going to write it?

I‘m on my way to my first residency at my MFA program!

1. I have and I will. I am a writer and an academic
2. Because #1, I have and will write both 🎓 academic monographs (historical anthropology) and 🚀 science fiction.
Ready for a day of writing? Why yes I am. Armed with home made cold brew (from Vietnamese coffee grounds) and stubbornness. Here me roar. #amwriting
Just under 500 words today. My characters are stuck in front of a door, literally, and I don't know how to phrase what happens next. Time to figure out dinner. #amwriting
2618 words typed, before proofing and tightening. I can't see straight anymore so for now I'll take a break and look at it later tonight. A lot of info dumping and not a lot of action, but that's what happens when detectives read surveillance files. #AmWriting
As my friend Jo says, "Thud." Chapter done. It did not want to come out on the keyboard so I forced it out by pen. It needs work, but that'll happen tomorrow when I type it. I expect about 2500 words. Now, some reading and supper making.

1️⃣ SF
2️⃣ I have two novels in the works, one SF, one slipstream, and two academic books, one monograph, one collection. I call the sf novel SNOD, i.e. the sprawling novel of doom.
3️⃣ My friend Gillian took this pic of my dog last Sunday.
4️⃣ I do not keep track. I also often forget to talk about fiction here and I almost never talk about academic books here.
#wondrouswednesday @eggs
1️⃣ My new computer, named Hopper, is up and working and I've typed just over 3000 words on it in the last 48h!
2️⃣ Nope!

855 words and a chapter. I've plotted the rest of the chapters too, so I'm calling it a day. #AmWriting
This collection of essays is a delight for writers and those interested in what this particular writer‘s life is like. Annie Dillard has a talent for making the simple details of everyday items, weather, places, conversations, and routines much more than the sum of their parts. Her attention to life gives voice to the sacredness and wonder of it. #writersoflitsy #writing
“I do not so much write a book a sit up with it, as with a dying friend.”
“This writing that you do, that so thrills you, that so rocks and exhilarates you, as if you were dancing next to the band, is barely audible to anyone else.”
I was supposed to be writing.
In the basement for a tornado alert (second this summer) with a terrified dog and no book (it's upstairs). Spent the afternoon looking at tea sellers in Paris in 1900 for a thing.
Going back up soon.
