One of Dickens‘ earlier novels, NN gives me Pickwick vibes, especially with some of the over-the-top humor, and the pathos of The Old Curiosity Shop. Nicholas is a young man‘s hero - brash and hot headed and protective of his and his sister‘s honor. But also likable. And he sticks to his version of honorable behavior even when it goes against his feelings for Madeline. A typical Dickensian ending wraps it all up with a bow for an enjoyable read.

I love Dickens. His writing just brings me joy, despite the somewhat miserable circumstances he depicts. I love his language, his preposterous villains, and angelic heroines. And I love the way his novels meander but eventually come back to a somewhat comfortable (and usually predictable) conclusion. This was not my favourite Dickens - probably Great Expectations - but still good and I enjoyed the narrator very much.

Day 303.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
Trying to find time to read between my classes and running a house; and of course I picked a classic, a thick book of course! 🤷🏻♀️
#Audiocrocheting ❤ Suddenly I realized that Christmas is approaching, som it's time to continue my snowflake blanket 😅 Love the included concept on Audible where I can listen to Nicholas Nickleby for free ❤👍👏
I've been having episodes where my body has seizure-like tremors. Tonight, my speech is extremely messed up to where I cannot talk without a severe stutter, and my body is extremely tired and weak. So, to keep up my spirits, I'm going to read a Dickens novel I haven't read before!

Posting 1 unread (or book put into hibernation) per day for 31 days. No reason or explanation. Creating a priority TBR.

This was a long book and it took me a long time to get through. I enjoyed the rambling narrative. It was kind of like the Pickwick Papers in that it would go off on long tangents.
Day 18 of #GratefulReads is #BeenOnYourTBRTooLong and now is when I reveal my literary dark secret! I‘ve been reading Nicholas Nickelby for YEARS! It started okay but I got bogged down in parts and then I just stalled on it. Dickens is not my idea of fun times. 🤦🏻♀️

1. Nicholas Nickleby and a book called The Birds Our Teachers by John Stott. The second is a Christian book about how we can learn about God through birds. The author calls it an “orni-theology” 😊
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - no, I still haven‘t read all the HP books!
3. I have some doorstoppers I want to finish by year end. In October I‘ll either read Moby Dick or Schindler‘s Ark.
From the Charles Dickens Museum. A letter in which Dickens states that the "finished Nickleby at last". ?
Last stop on our London weekend: one of the houses Charles Dickens lived and wrote in.
I absolutely abhor Ralph Nickleby! He's a selfish bastard!
I'm in a Dickens mood! My beautiful copy of Nicholas Nickleby I bought from the library today! 😍
#Maylovesclassics. #illustratededition The outside cover is plain, but it is a joy to find an illustrated classic.

I don't know how many times I've walked past this building and not noticed this plaque!
I should pay more attention to my surroundings 😂
I can't stop thinking about this image. When we toured the Charles Dickens Museum, there is additional audio content available for each room. A woman narratives stories and musings that bring the room to life. In this room, the kitchen/servants' area, she talked about the lives they must have had, toiling "all day while looking up at the ankles of those passing by on the street above". Quite poignant.
#Zeus who caused a complete collapse of the couch cushions in an effort to make himself more comfortable is not at all interested in my #TBRTuesday #bookmail, another volume of the 1910 Educational Book Co. Dickens Library illustrated by Harry Furniss. I on the other hand am quite pleased —first time ordering through Biblio and it arrived on time and in beautiful condition. I love these end papers. #kittenlitten #catsofLitsy #collections
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
You can't waste a perfectly good corner when it comes to book storage ... that's when a revolving bookcase comes in handy. 😉 #shelfie #FunFridayPhoto
One of my #faveclassics. 748 pages and I remember being sad to finish it. #somethingforseptember
