A tea party takes a poisonous turn leaving Daisy and Hazel with a new mystery to solve in the second novel of the Wells & Wong Mystery series. Schoolgirl detectives Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are at Daisys home, Fallingford, for the holidays. Daisys glamorous mother is throwing a tea party for Daisys birthday, and the whole family is invited, from eccentric Aunt Saskia to dashing Uncle Felix. But it soon becomes clear that this party isnt about Daisy after alland she is furious. But Daisys anger falls to the wayside when one of their guests falls seriously and mysteriously illand everything points to poison. Its up to Daisy and Hazel to find out whats really going on. With wild storms preventing everyone from leaving, or the police from arriving, Fallingford suddenly feels like a very dangerous place to be. Not a single person present is what they seemand everyone has a secret or two. And when someone very close to Daisy begins to act suspiciously, the Detective Society does everything they can to reveal the truthno matter the consequences.

#Middlegrade mystery and blanket forts this evening. Yes, Olive really does like being tucked in like that 🐶 #dogsoflitsy #kidlit

GloVerdino So cute! My dog hates being under the blanket! 2mo
britt_brooke So cute! 💚🐾 2mo
TheBookAddict Such a cutie. Mine is a big boy and still very much a baby, even though he‘ll be 2 in a few months, and just can‘t stay still under a blanket. 😔 🤦🏽‍♀️ 2mo

So what's everyone's to to book binge drink? I'm all for tea with sugar thanks to @Thereadingmermaid

TheReadingMermaid Whiskey on the rocks!!! ❤️🥃💕 13mo
SamanthaMarie Water. I'm so boring 😂 but I like tea or decaf coffee or Spindrift waters. Or alcohol but then I get too tired and don't read for long before I need a nap haha! 13mo
skaiareads Haha I could go for a glass of wine too :) 13mo

TheReadingMermaid @skaiareads remember if you want to direct a comment at somebody you have to use the @ and their name so that it will pop up on their notifications and you guys can have a conversation. 13mo
Avanders 😁 yep, the only exception is that, for the person whose post it is (eg, here, you), you don't need to tag them bc the poster gets notification of all comments on their post. Phew! I said post a lot. 😆😆 13mo

skaiareads @Avanders @TheReadingMermaid that's bad for someone with short term memory 🤣🤣 13mo
TheReadingMermaid Haha! Yeah but it's the small prices we pay for this great community 🤗🤗🤗 13mo
SamanthaMarie Yes, a nice glass of wine always makes the book reading even better! :) Glad you are on Litsy! 13mo
Elma Coffee with flavored syrup and cream. Iced in the summer, hot in the winter. 13mo
skaiareads @Elma I love iced coffee but I dont like hot coffee usually what's your favorite creamer? Mins the peppermint mocha 😍🤩 13mo
Elma @skaiareads I use plain heavy cream and flavored syrups from Monin. My current favorite flavor is Toffee & Nut. 13mo
dgingo @SamanthaMarie Ha. Spendthrift waters. Love it! 10mo
dgingo It depends on the day and time of day. Hot tea with milk, or an ice-cold Coke Zero. In the morning? A homemade latte or a cup of coffee. I don‘t drink alcohol/wine when reading, although I never thought about that fact before. (edited) 10mo

These two books are part of a series on my TBR 📚
I have read the first of the Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries which I really enjoyed (I think Arsenic for Tea is the fourth book, so I will have to have a trip to the library to find the second and third!)
I haven't read anything by Louise Rennison before but it looks very funny 😂

mcipher Louise Rennison is super funny! Enjoy. 😊 14mo

The Wells and Wong Mystery series is like Agatha Christie or Dorothy Sayers for middle grade. I love the covers, too.

batsy It's a great cover! I have the first one and should read it. I realise they've changed the titles for the US editions, for awhile I thought there were more books in the series ☺️ 2y

So paperchase do "book bags". Super cute and a good size for the books I tend to carry with me on my travels
Thought might try and see if i can keep my book(s) in this while they're in my backpack so not to trash them so much.

It was also an excuse to buy a new bag

Laughing my arse off at Daisy's last sentence here! The truth of it! Also 'muttered like a foghorn'!!!! (NB I don't think it's only old people who don't realise that the past was awful, but from a kid's point of view almost everyone else IS old) #UKMG #middlegrade #kidlit #childrens #ninetotwelve #9to12 #murder #bunbreak

I had to walk to not one but two bookshops to find a copy of this 😉 such hardship! I liked this one a tad better than the first - although it seems that I'm still hopeless at solving murders 🙈

Middle grade does not mean middle immature or middle boring. To me, it means full friendship and full sweetness. This series is a definite recommendation for my Reader Niece.

Anybody else crazy enough to deliberately get to the airport early enough to grab dedicated and uninterrupted reading time?

8leagueboot I have definitely done this before. Abandoned gates are one of the best reading spots! 3y
becausetrains That's actually brilliant, @RanaElizabeth 😮🤓 definitely done the same at train stations too. 3y
RanaElizabeth @NorthEastofEden Well, I have unexplored issues with anxiety and control so I sit right next to my gate no matter how early I am. 😐 3y

RanaElizabeth @becausetrains I love the train so much I decided to take the longer and just as expensive train ride over the plane ride for my second leg of this vacation. It's the Boston to Philly route which is gorgeous for sightseeing. 3y
SeeJulieRead I usually ride the bus to the airport and hate being late, so I tend to get a couple of hours of reading in before each flight! 3y
becausetrains @RanaElizabeth Enjoy!! It's been years since I've done that leg. Try to get a seat on the left side of the train between Boston and New York! 🚄🌅🏙🌃 3y
RanaElizabeth @becausetrains Yes! Thank you, it's been months since I've done this route and I couldn't remember which side was better. 3y
Aseleener I don't fly, but I do this with school pick-up. Leave earlier than I have to. I get a good parking place and good reading time. 👍 3y
EricaReads Always (before baby that is). I'd much rather be really early and have time to read at the gate than have to hurry to catch my flight. We still go early, but it's not reading time unless he's asleep. 3y

Hope to see the niece who is a reader next week while I'm on vacation so I'm starting the second in a series that I recommended to her.

I spent Sock Sunday curled up with the second half of this beautiful book. It continues the story of friendship and sleuthing that began in last year's Murder is Bad Manners. Daisy Wells & Hazel Wong are best friends who solve mysteries in 1930s England. This time murder knocks at Daisy's door...☠✔️
