Bought this for myself at the end of last year but have been putting off reading it as its just sooo big! But tonight i finished my goodreads challenge so decided now would be the perfect time to tackle this in between challenges!

Velvetfur Oh, me too, it's just sitting there on the pile and I keep looking at it thinking, "what do we say to the god of chunksters? Not today!" ? 1mo
cerijones Haha yeah i have finally bit the bullet now and started it. Thought it was good timing really since ive achieved my goodreads goal for this year so this one will either take me over my goal or be the first one ticked off next years goal depending on how much time i get to read over the next few week haha! 4w

I have decidedly mixed feelings about HBO's recent announcement that they have ordered a full season for the prequel of one of their most #iconic shows, & axed the rumored prequel starring Naomi Watts. The version featuring Watts was based on original material & set a thousand years before the events of ASoIaF, very promising concept & I was excited to see Watts in this world. HBO has decided to go with "House of the Dragon," based on the tagged?

vivastory book. This one is set 300 years before the events of GoT & there's a second planned volume. I like the idea of being able to read the book before the show is released, & I'm sure inevitably waiting for years for the second volume. #MOvember @Cinfhen 1mo
Cinfhen Great choice!! Lots of “fans” are on the fence about the producers choice of scrapping original plans and what the hell happened to the Star Wars prequel?? 1mo
vivastory @Cinfhen I'm definitely in the unpopular opinion camp on this one, but I don't think the final season of GoT is as bad as pretty much everyone on the internet is claiming. Even if people are unhappy with the last few episodes, there's no disputing that audiences were happy with the first half of the season & it contained at least one of the best episodes of any tv series, ever. I suspect the cancelled Benioff & Weiss deal might have more to do 👇 1mo
See All 9 Comments
vivastory @Cinfhen with the fact that they signed a major deal with Netflix & now that Disney is about to launch their streaming service I think it's a competition thing more than anything else IMO 1mo
Cinfhen Yeah, that seems to add up!! 1mo
Hooked_on_books I strongly suspect Martin will die before at least one of his series is concluded. Or is it just the one series and the others are related stand alones? 1mo
vivastory @Hooked_on_books The Fire & Blood series is supposedly only going to have 1 other volume. He has another in the same world that he's said that he might add onto at some point, but you can safely read it now & it stands on its own 1mo
vivastory @Hooked_on_books He has said that he won't be involved with the prequel to the extent that he was with GoT, so he can focus on finishing Winds of Winter 1mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai I'd prefer the Naomi Watts one too. 1mo

Rating: 10/5 stars.

George RR Martin is one of a kind. This book is extensive and really, really good. I'm of House Stark and Martell, but I do have a favorite Targaryen: Visenya.

Ignored most of the things I "had" to do today, (except some light vacuuming, cooking dinner, feeding the baby and keeping the other 2 kids from killing each other #momlife ), and relaxed to get some reading done. Got a few chapters of Fire & Blood read and now going to do a little bedtime reading of Harry Potter. Good reading day!

azulaco Lol #momlife indeed. I‘m impressed you got to read at all during the day. My two make it nearly impossible! 2mo
azulaco PS I love the Harry Potter series so much. I read them all as an adult, but before I had kids. In fact, I then went out and bought the whole set to keep in my permanent library. They are really well done - and, once you read them, you will appreciate how well the movies are done, too. 2mo
Mama_Wolf2015 @azulaco it was definitely an anomaly to be able to read, but the kids played on their own and I snuck in some reading. Plus the husband was home, so he played with them a bit. And I ignores most all my to do list 🤣 sometimes ya just need some extra reading time! I've never even seen the Harry Potter movies, I plan on watching after I finish reading! 2mo

I bought this book when I went to Florida in June. The book store I bought it at was so cute. I haven‘t read this book. After I finish reading the #asongoficeandfire series, I would like to read this. This book has illustrations in it. It‘s the family history of the Targaryens. I‘m in the middle of reading #astormofswords right now so after this book, I have #afeastforcrows and #adancewithdragons to read. This book cover is so pretty.

Nearly through the book and my biggest point of criticism so far is that GRRM seems to have no idea what children at certain ages act and look like? The descriptions and the illustration of Daenaera in “Under the Regents - Cattle shows” make me think of a girl who is at least 9+ not a girl of 6. Iirc, some Targaryen siblings under the age of 10 are having verbal slap-fights more fitting to teenagers. It‘s pretty jarring to read.

I'm about 1/3 done. So far it is interesting to see the back story of the houses and who people are named after, but it reads like a history book and thus goes through like 20 years in a chapter. I'm rereading the Song of Ice and Fire right now so the switch from character POV to history book is odd for me. Also, I'm hoping to see what WINTER is! It gets hinted at, but we never actually see it!

I wasn‘t ready to leave this world behind when the series ended last week, so I picked up volume one of the 2-part Targaryens in Westeros history. I love the way GRRM just takes me into this world with his writing. The illustrations are gorgeous. And, along with the tale, definitely give context to things that happened in this last season 🔥 🐉

Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin is a testament to his genius. It takes an incredible mind to flesh out a fantastical history from nothing. That being said, it is very dry and boring. History textbooks are more entertaining.

Also I had a lot of fun dressing up in a burgundy ball gown at Glassell in Houston's museum district.

I‘m 550 pages into Fire & Blood and feeling a bit sad today because I think GOT is about to kill my favorite character. (The fact that this episode hits on Mother‘s Day is a harbinger of doom in my opinion.) I‘m caught up in this beautiful Targaryen history and will definitely be cheering for some #fireandblood tonight 🖤❤️

Last week l managed to have the ltalian translator of GoT as a guest in the bookshop where l work. Not only he's a superb translator, he's also an expert of fantasy/SF literature and a university professor of comparative literature.
It was a brilliant presentation that touched upon the GoT and the philosophy behind it, the relationship between politics an these genres, Russian SF, the theory of translation and medieval literature 💚💙💜

Finally completed this mamoth of a book. This is not a novel,it reads like a history research book with events, dates. The only difference is, it is filled with bloody wars, betrayals, sex and of course dragons.I love the GOT universe & it was great reading about the history. This is only the 1st half, the other one is yet to come.Since it's about history it can get tedious at times but it is a very enjoyable read. Dragons keep it interesting.

This is Aegon III Targaryen, became King after the Dance of Dragons. He was only 10 years old when he became King.

The first Targaryen to conquer, unite and rule seven kingdoms was also an Aegon.

Also, as per Game of Thrones, the TV series, Jon Snow's actual name is Aegon Targaryen, name given by his actual parents Rhaegar Targaryen & Lyanna Stark.

There are so many Aegons in the Targaryen blood line, it's hard to keep track.

The Dance of the Dragons ended with the death of Aegon of House Targeryen, the Second of His Name, firstborn son of King Viserys and Queen Alicent, whose reign proved as brief as it was bitter. He had lived for 24 years and reigned for two.

Kings and Lords die and are replaced but dragons can't be replaced, they are unique.

I sat down today thinking i would finish this one today but Mr. Martin started killing off dragons one by one which made it difficult to go on. Vhagar,Vermithor,Tessaryon, Tyraxes,Morghul,Shrykos,Seasmoke,Sunfyre,Caraxes all died in spectacular manner. Their fights or "dances" were amazing but felt sad when they died. I had to put down the book to take it all in

A bitter old fued resumed at Storm's End between Prince Aemond and Prince Lucerys and a dragon fight ensued. The mighty dragon Vhagar, the biggest dragon in the seven kingdom, a veteran in warfare easily killed the young dragon Arrax along with Prince Lucerys.

This marked the first major casualty in the civil war for Iron Throne a.k.a as the DANCE OF THE DRAGONS!!
