Book #3 in the series. I read all of these back to back and I think this was my fave. Kept me engrossed all the way through. Not sure if there will be more, but I do think maybe Fiona Barton hasn‘t gotten enough hype.
This was pretty good! It all got a little far fetched, but it kept my interest and was a good read. (15)
⭐️: 3.75/5
Reading this as a standalone may have helped in that I had no expectations as to the recurring characters behavior - 2 girls are missing while traveling in Thailand, a reporters son is also “missing“ in that he has not kept in touch consistently with his parents while gone - (more below)

1. I've read more Post-apocalyptic books -
2. I think Hunger Games and Extinction Trials would fall in this genre - so I'd recommend those since I've read them (Mistborn books are on my TBR and I think these may fall in this category too)

This book is the third in a series. A journalist finds a story about two missing girls found dead in a fire. There is a survivor from the fire and it turns out to be the son of the journalist. Now she needs to find out if he is responsible for murder. It was really interesting. Love Barton‘s writing. Hope there are more to this series.
I was really in the mood for a mystery thriller and this completely satisfied me. It truly was a nonstop ride, with some beautiful sentimental moments.
I love when books get me thinking for days after I read them. This one truly questions the relationship between grown children and their parents. I love that it made me think and completely surprised me with some twists.
This was a great ‘can‘t put the book down‘ kind of read! Lots of twists and turns, and even though you may have had ideas of where it might go, it was still a great page turner!
Riveting! An absolutely brilliant mystery/crime novel which delves into the seedier side of international travel and the complexities of modern families. I could not put this book down and I enjoyed it far more than the first in the series. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Oooohhhhh my god!!! I‘m not even half way through this book and I am already so so so so so in love with it! It has to be one of the best mysteries I‘ve read in a long time!! SO amazing!!

“Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.” Finished The Wives, and I‘m starting this one now. Have you read it?
Book 3 in the Kate Waters series and another very enjoyable read, I love a good twisty story 😊
#Murder2020 (book 4)
A good read with a couple of twists at the end.
Overall, I liked this psychological suspense novel. Although it‘s listed as the third book in the Kate Waters series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone. It‘s pretty much what I did. When I started this, I didn‘t know it was part of a series, and I never felt like I was missing anything.
I appreciated the serious questions raised. They had me thinking about the book for days afterward. ⤵️
I think each Fiona Barton novel has a little less sparkle. This was just meh to me.

How did you choose this book: Was looking for a book and saw this and it caught my eye right away.
Write a brief summary: kate Walters is an journalist trying to get her hands on a case of 2 girl gone missing in Thailand. During her journey she can't help but remember her son, he son left 2 years ago to Thailand but never returned nor sent any emails, disappeared almost.
It's Sunday morning and I've been awake since 3AM, reading in my favorite (very old) fluffy robe and finishing this amazing book. The Suspect is so worth your time and in my personal opinion is Fiona Barton's best novel yet!
I won't post any spoilers here, but just read the first couple of chapters and see if your hooked 🤓
First fall bonfire in the backyard this year. Loving it!

So a severe thunderstorm just woke me out of a sound sleep, and I made some coffee. My country Walmart finally got this new Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte creamer and I snatched up the last one. Let me tell you....this shit is awesome!!! I'm picky about some of this stuff, but you've got to try it☕️ It is sweet, so a little goes a long way. Great coffee/book companion. Worth the every penny of the $4.89 I paid...LOL!😄👌

It's a cloudy, cool Sunday morning here. Me and my granddog Maggie are hanging out and doing a lot of reading....perfection! Isn't she adorable?❤️ She's Shih Tzu and Yorkie. What a combo....lol. I'm completely and totally in love with her🐾🥰

Although this is third in a series, it‘s the first one I‘ve read & it works pretty well as a stand-alone. It unfolds from the viewpoints of several characters: the police detective, the journalist, mother of one of the missing girls, & from one of the girls themselves.
It had plenty of twists & turns & I mostly liked the ending. I would definitely read more from this author. 4🌟
I DNF this after 22 chapters/120 pages
It was my first attempt with this author, but I just really couldn't bring myself to care about any of it, and I felt it was really dragging.
Started this audio the other day and I‘m having a really hard time getting into it. It might be clearer in print but the shifting POV is hard to follow and the story is a bit dull.

This is probably my least favorite of the series, but doesn't mean it's bad; the other two were just so good.
Reading a good book,drinking coffee,and doing laundry bag n a rainy Sunday..
I just started this book. Has anyone else read it or reading it now? So far it is good.
I do love Fiona Barton‘s writing and have enjoyed all three books, but I think this one would be my favourite. Great to see this written from the perspective of The Victim, The Mother, The Detective and the Journalist. This book was so difficult to put down and would strongly recommend it. Tension, Suspense, twists. In the main I worked it out but that didn‘t spoil my reading enjoyment. People intent on gap years should read this! Or not! 😱😳
Starting The Suspect by Fiona Barton. Really enjoyed The Widow and The Child so hoping this will be just as good.
Started this one towards the end of my vacation and couldn‘t put it down! I love how Fiona jumps from character to character in her books and this one made me want to keep reading!! The plot was awesome and I didn‘t know what was coming next!!
Books in which young women take off a gap year to explore Thailand always make me nervous 😳 #Itsthemominme
This was a satisfying mystery read, though I did not like the mothers, Lesley and Jenny. Bleh, could have slapped them a few times. I know they were grieving, but still, don't have to be annoying. Anyway, good stuff.

This was a wonderful audiobook! I really enjoyed how it switched off between three different narrators to tell the three different POVs (the reporter, the detective, and one of the missing girls). While I can‘t say that any of the twists and turns were huge shockers I did still really enjoy hearing it all unfold! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
The latest book by Fiona Barton is available for 99p in the U.K. at the moment on a variety of platforms. If you like psychological suspense books I throughly recommend this based on her other books, The Widow and The Child, which were excellent reads.
Two 18yo girls go missing in Thailand. Journalist, Kate Waters, wants to be first to the story but she can‘t help but think of her own son that left home 2 years ago to travel. Barton‘s new book shows that danger can lie closer to home than you might think. I enjoyed Baron‘s other books, The Widow and The Child and Suspect does not disappoint. This book is every mother‘s nightmare. Recommended to those who like psychological suspense with a twist.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fiona Shaw is an author I have really enjoyed reading. I appreciate how she is able to continue using her two main characters, Kate Waters and DI Sparkes, through her books without repeating storylines.
I enjoyed the twists in The Suspect and bringing Kate's son, Jake, into the story gave this an extra level of suspense. However, I did feel that this book was a touch on the long side and that some of the "tracking" could have been edited out.
Some parts were guessable in this one, but I still always enjoy her books. More dialogue than fluff.
