Just watched Brats, the documentary on Hulu and this book was mentioned in it. The documentary was interesting and so well done. Now I have to read this because I am a huge fan of those films and the actors that were part of The Brat Pack.

For the nostalgic Gen Xer, this is absolute candy. A look behind the scenes of the best teen 80's movies, John Hughes, the Brat Pack (which those who were considered thought this moniker ruined their lives) and the impact these movies still have today. A great book.

What a fun book for someone who was a teenager in the 80s (me)! Many of the actors were part of what became labelled the “Brat Pack”, based on an article written that was originally meant to be about Emilio Estevez, but became about a group of them who were out together one night.

LibraryCin Not enough characters to finish my review, so heres the rest... 7y
LibraryCin To be honest, I‘d not even realized the phrase was meant (at the time) to be derogatory; I never read the article, nor had I realized that‘s even where the term originated. So, I did learn plenty about the actors and the movies. 7y

Reading break while we eat. Thing 2‘s plans to go to an 80s themed party in Indy were pre-emptied by cold and snow so we‘re having an 80s movie night. Twist my arm, I love 80s movies.

TheDaysGoBy I love that movie! There are lots of great 80s movies for sure. Enjoy! 7y
dariazeoli I can quote this movie! One of my favorites. I‘m currently coveting the Funkos that are out for each of them 💕 7y

CocoReads I heard they did—I‘ve been too afraid to watch any of the remakes—footloose, Adventures, etc. 7y

There's a much better, less speculative, account of this dinner and subsequent article in Rob Lowe's book. It's a little weird reading all of these accounts and thinking "oh, yeah, I already know about that."

Laalaleighh And now we have the snap pack with rfk jr's daughter and Henry Matisse' gggrandaughter and Abigail Breslin and some random 23 year old fashion designer with rich parents and Bella Thorne and some DJs daughter. I wonder if one day people will write books about them? 8y

Digging around in my kindle app. I forgot I had this. These movies shaped my childhood. Lea Thompson was my first celeb crush and Mary Stuart Masterson my second. I saw Pretty In Pink for the first time at my brother's house, babysitting my two young nieces. But my fave of all the movies is (I think) the least recognized: I love Some Kind of Wonderful with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Excited it has its own chapter here!

Cinfhen That just don't make movies like that anymore 🙁loved all the music from these movies 🎶❤️ 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Never saw Some Kind of Wonderful! I just requested it from my library!! It will make a good weekend film! Thanks ! 8y

Loved! I grew up on these movies and always felt they were more important than adults (at the time) gave them credit for being. This was a great way to re-experience them, especially because I still relate more to those characters than ones my current age.

As a fan of John Hughes and the teen films of the eighties, I enjoyed this book. If you are not a fan, I'm not sure you'll like it as much as I did. Each film gets its own chapter, and is peppered with cast and film crew interviews.

I did feel that the story of the term Brat Pack was discussed repetitively, but those who got boxed in by the name felt very strongly about it, so...

All in all, I'm glad to have finally read this one!

Ferries Bueller's Day Off is on cable in half an hour, and I'm up to the Ferris chapter in this book. Timing is everything.

I always loved Cameron. I read the theory that Ferris is a figment of his imagination. It was an interesting spin on things.

But really, what do you think happened when his dad got home that night?
