Some panels are so beautiful!!!! I could stare at the artwork all day.
Some panels are so beautiful!!!! I could stare at the artwork all day.
I‘m somewhat obsessed with this graphic novel series. There is so much action and character growth! And the artwork is truly frame and hang on a wall worthy.
The artwork is so beautiful and haunting. Maika is steely, but she has many reasons to keep her guard up at all times. The god whom resides within her has his own secrets he's withholding. The Empress Shaman is still a mystery-what did she want with the old gods; coexistence? #graphicnovels #fantasy
Issues 17-18 build to a riveting action sequence, as Maika/Zinn fight for their lives. Kippa is the real MVP and moral center of the story.
This volume of Monstress is dense with intrigue and world building. Maika goes to the sealed laboratory of her ancestor, the Shaman Empress, while Tuya seeks to ally the Dawn Court with the Dusk Court. The Cumaea are hunting Maika and pushing the Federation toward war. There is some very funny dialogue between Maika and Zinn, which lightens the pervasive cosmic horror mood.
My #DoubleSpin pick for #BookSpinBingo for December was another excellent addition to this series. @TheAromaofBooks
This story continues to blow me away. It is an amazing fantasy/horror graphic novel series with an immersive world that is truly unique and unlike anything I've read before.
Finally catching up with Monstress. I read the first two volumes of the series years ago (reread them this week as a refresher) and then put it aside for other less complex series 😆
The art in Monstress is just stunning. I often find myself having to reread some panels cause I‘ll get lost in the details of the art. That‘s not to say the story isn‘t compelling - the art and writing complement each other very well in this series
Still loving it!
The art of this series is stunning. I love looking at the intricate detailwork on every page. Sometimes the beautiful, dark style doesn't seem to match with humorous things being said or done. I also frequently feel like the main character is built up to be this callous, cold woman with no empathy, but then she shows random empathy moments like not wanting a bunch of ghosts to stay trapped in limbo and it throws me off. #Comic
My final tally for the #24B4Monday #readathon was 13 hours and 10 minutes. I finished by reading Monstress #3, one of the Hugo Best Graphic Story nominees this year. #hugo2019. This is such a terrific series, with hauntingly beautiful artwork.
Thanks to @Andrew65 @jb72 @TheReadingMermaid for running this event and for the encouragement!
I am obsessed with this comic. The lush imagery that needs to be studied for its beauty and to pick up all the nuances
The layered and dense story that needs to be taken in slowly and multiple times. I reread the previous volumes whenever a new trade reaches me because there are so many things that don't quite make sense till you get more of the story. I am excited to see where this is going because this is one story that truely lives in the grey.
Just finished rereading the previous volumes so I could properly enjoy this. The story is so wonderfully dense, as is the imagery. I love the grey area it lives in so much.
Highly recommend this graphic novel series. To me, it‘s even better than Saga or Giant Days in both art & storyline. It has such a unique story, it‘s been described as a manga version of Cthulhu, which I think is probably the best description, with a dash of Buffy. 5⭐️
#BookMail Pt2 This is the 3rd Volume in this amazing series, both the art & storyline are brilliant. This is the story of a world at war, between the humans and their witches and the part animal elemental magic wielders. A story of a wolf girl with a secret inside her & her half fox companion & cat necromancer/sorcerer sidekick. Very Cthulhu crossed with manga.
Monstress volume 3
Amazing visuals and captivating story as always. Kippa ❤️

Maika and the monster inside her form an uneasy alliance once they reach a supposedly neutral land to get some much needed rest after barely escaping the poisoned island. Refugees are pouring into the territory, and Kippa searches for her aunt among them. This volume ends on a major cliffhanger!
If you are in denial of requiring reading glasses, you will be tormented by this graphic novel. If you finally face reality and purchase the appropriate eyeglasses, you will be able to discover a gorgeously drawn and written journey of a girl fighting/merging with an inner demon. You should read this book and aging sucks.
If you read comics, you probably don‘t need me to tell you this one is AWESOME & deserving of all the accolades. If you don‘t read comics, might I just say Liu‘s writing is fantastic (the story complex & compelling) and Takeda‘s artwork is gorgeous (vibrant & immersive) and together they‘ve built an endlessly fascinating world. The plot thickens, new dangers arise & lots of things go boom in this volume. It‘s a fun one! Highly recommended.
And back to a comic we go as I continue working through the TBR stacks. Monstress has won ALL the awards and I‘m excited to see where Volume 3 takes us.
Finished the third volume of Monstress tonight. I still think this is an amazing series, but I will say that the storytelling didn‘t feel as solid in this installment. The story seems to have gotten so big that there aren‘t enough pages in each issue to fit in everything. There are a lot more jumps in scenes that confused me (this was even before I got sick today). The supporting cast is getting more time to shine, though, which I like.
Couldn‘t resist getting this last night. I love this series so much. I‘m almost halfway through it already even though I know I should savor it. Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda have created something glorious with this series. #graphicnovel #fantasy #epicfantasy #Monstress
That's it, this comic owns me! 🤣
The story has just gotten even more interesting with every subsequent read and the artwork, which I can't stop staring at is just as amazing to look at!
Kippa aka The Fox Child. The character who serve as a moral compass.
The story continues and Maika has to find her place in the impending war between humans and ancients.
I just love the colors in this comic. And that ending, completely breaking my heart. The countdown for the next volume has started.
Despite my best efforts, Monstress didn't make it to the final Goodreads vote cut. (Not that it would beat Saga, but whatevs.) The story is catching up to the art, IMHO.
The art is so gorgeous. I love this coffeeshop scene, with the cats serving cakes and Kippa stuffing herself. A rare moment of peace and good food.
Although I still can‘t really tell you about what is going on, the art is so mesmerizing that it does not matter. There is lots of blood and gore and evil monsters - most of them absolutely gorgeous women in breathtaking steampunk art-deco surroundings. Love it. Give me more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is one of the best on-going comic series out there right now & if you like comics & aren't reading it I don't know what you're doing. The artwork is stunning, intricate, & unique. The story always keeps you guessing. The world-building it incredible. All around a truly amazing fantasy series. Can't wait to see what happens in the next volume.
I‘m really enjoying this Volume of Monstress. As always, the artwork is amazing! And maybe it‘s because today is Hobbit Day—Bilbo and Frodo‘s birthday—but Kippa here reminds me of Samwise Gamgee. 💜
Wow! Just WOW! This series just keeps getting better with each volume. Left a hell of a cliffhanger at the end of this one.

Another great entry in the Monstress series.💕 Of course, the end makes you want to next volume immediately. Beautiful artwork and great story.
Yay, digging into my newly arrived copy of Volume 3 of Monstress! 💕 And I would just like to say the only thing cuter than cats drinking tea 🍵 and eating cake is them serving it 😻
