Scooby Apocalypse Vol. 4
Scooby Apocalypse Vol. 4 | Keith Giffen, J M Dematteis
The fate of humanity rests in the hands--and paws--of a very different Mystery, Inc. as Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and the superintelligent Scooby-Doo learn more about the bizarre threats they now face every day in Scooby Apocalypse Volume 4! A visit to a small town seemingly untouched by the nanite plague that turned the world into a monster-infested wasteland puts the gang at the heart of tragedy, as new allies Cliffy and Daisy have a hard time dealing with what the gang has had to become to stay alive. And when Velma comes up with a plan to try and ensure their survival, a shopping mall becomes the zombie-ruled site of what may be Mystery, Inc.'s last stand! Writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis (Justice League International, Blue Beetle) and artists Dale Eaglesham (Secret Six), Ron Wagner (The 99) and Andy Owens (Nightwing) meddle with the Mystery, Inc. gang's lives like never before! Plus, Giffen and DeMatteis reinvent the adventures of Secret Squirrel, Morocco Mole and Honey Bea in stories illustrated by some of comics' greatest talents, including Phil Jimenez and Colleen Doran! Collects issues #19-24.

4✨Expect a lot of gore with this. This took us on a unique apocalyptic journey with the Mystery‘s inc gang. I think my biggest issue was they were not all friends when things went south so there is not much teamwork right now in taking care of the monster.

The writing and the art seem nearly ready to buckle as the series goes on, but this entry is salvaged by some emotional surprises.

LibrarianRyan I agree. Ihave not posted my review of the last and final book. If you were reading the books instead of the issues, I think book three was the worse. And I hate all the other mini comics like Secret Squirrel and Adam Ant inbetween. I liked the Scrappy ones because they connected directly to the story and eventually merge, but the others... no thank you. 4y

While I was not a fan of volume 4, volume 5 is right back where the series belongs with high octane action, scenes that pull at your heart strings, and more Secret Squirrel. Personally I don‘t care for the Secret Squirrel sections, but these were better than in the past. I am curious how they will integrate the two stories. Only one book left, so hopefully it hits it out of the park.

This issue dragged out so long! We got a brief glimpse of Secret Squirrel in volume 3 but he is almost half the books. I know eventually the story lines will converge but right now I just find them boring and awkward.

Thanks to @LibrarianRyan for the tip! 😁

As a kid I wanted nothing more than having Scooby and Shaggy as my friends 😁 Now they've reached the 21st century as well. I liked how the crew is newly interpreted and how the dynamics between them changed. Only the discussions between Daphne and Velma are overly repetitive. Every thing else rocks!

Twainy Added to Amazon Book Wishlist 😁 they have a 1-6 edition!! If I had all of the money I‘d buy books 😁 thanks you two 🤗 4y
Jari-chan @Twainy Oh, the 1-6 edition would be nice, too! But I guess I go for one comic a month - a little treat to myself every now and then 😉 4y
Twainy 😁 I only chose that edition as it looks to have a tougher binding and sadly I‘m a little hard on my books. 😳 I hope it‘s the same but more durable. 😁 4y
LibrarianRyan I agree. I‘ve now read through either 3 or four. The last one I read was the worst but I don‘t care about secret squirrel. But I hope to finish this series this month. Glad you liked it. 4y

Proving the series should have quit while it was ahead, much of Scooby Apocalypse‘s gimmick and charm have worn off by this volume, but fans may still find enough macabre fun to pass the time.

The art is a saving grace with just the right touch of psychedelic colors, but even for this Hanna-Barbera version of other (and better) morbidly reimagined classics like Afterlife with Archie, the writing in Scooby Apocalypse could use a Scooby Snack. #dogsoflitsy #comics #scoobydoo

Kind of a cool spin on the Scooby Doo franchise. Love the take on Shaggy. But I really didn‘t like the way Velma, my favorite character, was represented. I particularly hated the constant fighting between Velma and Daphne. It irritated me that the only two female characters were put at odds with each other.

For those who loved the whole 'dysfunctional family' angle of the original cartoon updated for a more modern readership. Imagine George Romero style monsters mixed with an updated origin story for every cast member and a Secret squirrel 2nd story which is worth a read. I also like the switch of Fred as a lovesick puppy for the new fearless leader of the group, Daphne. Great group dynamics as it takes a while for the forced group to get along.

Zoinks! I always loved Scooby Doo. When I started this I wasn‘t sure right away that I liked it, but in the end I really did. It‘s definitely different from the show, but the familiar elements are there. I think the only thing I didn‘t care for was Daphne and Velma‘s back and forth. I get it, but let it go for a bit, Daphne. #screamathon

Totally unexpected but absolutely enjoyable
Maybe a little in love with hipster trash Shaggy
Fred is adorably in love with Daphne but she's so focused on her career she doesn't care
Velma is a badass scientist who wants to save humanity from itself but destroys it instead
Scooby is a failure at being a military killing machine because he's too much of a marshmallow
AND SCRAPPY IS AN EVIL LITTLE SHIT

I enjoyed reading this, though it felt a little weird with the change in story line (as far as how the gang met and everything) from the cartoon series. Also, I thought that some of the relationships between characters were odd - Fred and Daphne, Velma and Daphne... the interactions were just odd sometimes. But overall an enjoyable reading experience.

This graphic novel gives us a new origin story, and the group comes together because of a zombie/vampire apocalypse. One caused by Velma and her research. Daphne and Fred are a TV news crew, Shaggy is a dog trainer, and Scooby-doo is one of the first smart dogs. This is a version of Scooby that this adult wants to keep reading. It‘s dark, adventurous, yet still contains the fun that made me fall in love as a kid. Plus the graphics are amazing.

Bookzombie Is this the first in a series? Or are the others I should read before? 8y
LibrarianRyan This is number one. They are being sold as single issue comic books but I just love the quality of graphic novels better. This complies 1-5 (i think). But the GN will be available 2.7.17. @Bookzombie (edited) 8y
