If you want to #soakupthesun you have to go where the moon isn‘t. I mean, that‘s logic but it really has nothing to do with this book. 😂 I‘m just desperate for #songsofsummer content! The prompts are all so happy sounding and I am sure that you know by now that I don‘t have a lot of happy books. Haha! @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
After finishing a dense nonfiction I needed something completely different - and it turned out to be this. I read it in one day - which classifies as a page turner for me! I enjoyed the abrupt style of writing - it felt appropriately young with sharp turns to anger or grief. I think this is a book best appreciated by going in blind so I won‘t say much. A solid 3.5 stars. I‘d give it 4 except I‘ve recently read a better book on a similar theme.
3/12 📚 It‘s well deserving of the hype, absolutely heartbreaking read. It feels like a really genuine portrait of grief and serious mental health issues, that doesn‘t feel exploitative at all. Definitely the first book in a while I feel the need to recommend to everyone. ⭐️ 9/10
I just finished this one. It‘s taken me a bit to read (mostly because I‘ve been so busy) and I‘m torn on how I feel about it. It‘s about a boy with Schizophrenia writing his story about the loss of his brother at such a young age and living with his “disease.” It got really raw and emotional at times. I just didn‘t find myself reaching for it every time I got a free moment. Good read, though.
Finished!
Reduced me to tears at points... I liked the way in which it was written too.
Need to speed read as book club meets this Thursday to discuss this one!
It's a good read, but not something that really pulled me in. It's something raw and emotional and can really pull a lot from you.
Tolle Darstellung der Hauptfigur und der Herausforderung die psychische Erkrankungen mit sich bringen.
4🌟
I enjoyed this book and thought it did a wonderful job at bringing mental illness to the forefront and protraying it hoenstly and brutally. I would definitely recommend for anyone with an interest in mental illnesses and even narrative structure.
Es war bewegend und trotzdem schwanke ich immer noch hin und her, wie ich es finden soll....kennt ihr das auch?
Really interesting read. Somewhat difficult at times to follow the narrative thread but it makes you think a lot about how trustworthy the narrator is and gives you a glimpse into the world of someone with mental illness.
Really easy to read and a nice story!

Have any of my fellow Littens read this book? Would you recommend? Please let me know. ☺️
One of the more subtle, less sensational treatments of schizophrenia I've seen which manages to emphasise Matthew's normality rather than just focusing on his illness. It also beautifully deals with grief and guilt and the devastating effect of loss
Definitely a contender for the Karen Martin best read of the year award. Brilliantly created brilliantly conceived and constructed, this book explores grief, family and living with mental health issues. Find out more at karenmartinreads.blogspot.co.uk
Beautiful, beautiful book.
"She's known sadness, and it has made her kind."
"HELLO, my name is your potential. But you can call me impossible. I am the missed opportunities. I am the expectations you will never fulfil. I am always taunting you, regardless of how hard you try, regardless of how much you hope..."
Wow. ?
The Shock Of The Fall is a touching insight into the impact death has on loved ones. The writing style was a little more chaotic than my taste, i had trouble keeping up with where it was but i think that's part of understanding the narrators mind...! It deals with the still-too-often taboo topic of mental illness in a creative and relatable way. I'd give it a 7.5/10.
Very sad book which was ingeniously written. Whilst reading this I was truly captivated by every word and I felt a true connection to Matthew.

This is still on my #tbr pile, however it is about a man's descent into mental illness, following the death of his brother.
I am looking forward to reading this despite the tough topic. 💕
"We move in circles, this illness and me. We are electrons orbiting a nucleus."
Read this book in one day. A difficult book to describe but a fascinating insight into the still taboo world of mental illness and trauma written by a mental health nurse. Honest, brutal and fascinating.
WOW!!! WOW!!! I am stunned. I am speechless.
What a novel. I have been hooked since the first word and now I have read the last word I am still hooked.
Nathan Filer - what a debut.
This is a story filled with madness, grief, love and loss. A is a deeply moving, and stunning novel.
Been waiting ages to make a start on this. Here goes ...
Opening line of the day: "I should say that I am not a nice person."
Wasn't liking it at the start but was fully into it 100 pages in, writing style was hard for me to get into but so worth it for the ending.
I went into this book expecting too much I think. I don't mind a little jumping, but this book jumped to different time periods too often for me. I thought the premise of the story was good I just think it should've been written in a different way to make the story easier to follow.
I'm sure it was part of the point of this book but I found it to be confusing. I almost put it aside and stopped reading but decided to stick with it and finish. Meh, maybe it's just my mood right now but it was too dark and sad for me.
Meh... There's something about it that feels forced. I cried at the ending, but it felt like it does when I watch that animal commercial with the Sarah McLachlan song: who wouldn't cry?
I've heard so many good things about The Shock of the Fall. May have to be next one from my tbr pile.
I totally understood why the main character both embraced and yet hated his mental illness.
Also known as: The Shock of The Fall. A mind blowing wonderful book full of tragic heartache and fearful pasts. So much more than I though it would be. A pleasant surprise. 4/5.
