I‘m not a huge fan of short stories but some of these were absolute bangers. Some were just alright. Def worth a read tho- some rly cool surprises in there, in addition to the classics that comprise the second half of the book!

I‘m apparently on a re-telling kick lately. This is reimaginings of thirteen Poe tales. A mixed bag, but they were all interesting. I couldn‘t figure out at first why the audiobook was so long, but it also includes the original stories and poems. Took this picture today while we were geocaching and it seems appropriately terrifying for Poe stories!
Sometimes ya just gotta eat half of a scone off of a festive plate while rotating between His Hideous Heart, My Best Friend's Exorcism, and booktube. Spooky scone season, babyyyyy 👻
This week is all about finishing up some outstanding books - so my #weeklyforecast will primarily be focused on the above books. I may get to some other side books (as I do, lol), but I really really want to check all of these of my list by Saturday (and one is a book club book so I HAVE to finish by Friday) 😄
A really cool concept for a YA anthology! Diverse authors each pick an Edgar Allen Poe story and retell it. The book also includes the original stories in the 2nd half (although I wonder if they might have been better placed before, since the retellings have more meaning if you're familiar w/ the original). Standouts include "She Rode a Horse of Fire" Kendare Blake, "It's Carnival" by Tiffany Jackson, & "Happy Days Sweetheart" by Stephanie Kuehn.
Wow, the first two stories in this were so good! Great #audiobook narration too. #YA #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks
Okay, I LOVED this. I adore Edgar Allan Poe and his twisted tales, so I was hesitant to start this. The hype is real though, friends, the hype is real 😍 my favourite stories were the ones based on Ligeia and The Cast of Amontillado.
Looking for a YA short story collection retelling Edgar Allan Poe‘s tales?!? 13 of them to be precise? Look no further, this book has you covered. And for a bonus it includes the original tales as well. On the whole I liked all the stories & there‘s a good mix of horror, creepy, & simply atmospheric & moody—in other words, there‘s something for everyone. It definitely fit well with the autumn/Halloween vibe.
❄️❄️❄️That‘s right, we‘re under a Winter Weather Advisory today with a strong chance of accumulating snow through Halloween...❄️☃️🎃☃️❄️... This is a little unusual for Chicago this time of year (though not unheard of). So don‘t mind me, I‘m just going curl up with this entertaining collection of short stories and a hot cup of tea and not go outside until I have to!
This has to be my next read, doesn‘t it? I mean, Halloween is right around the corner and what better way to get ready than to read some original and reimagined Edgar Allan Poe tales? 🍁🍂👻💀🎃🍂🍁

The picture above is the back of the book and tells you exactly which Poe tale each author tackled.
Interesting 🤔
From
The Raven (remix) by Amanda Lovelace
I have always been a big Poe fan so I was beyond excited when this collection was first announced. Here is hoping that it doesn't disappoint.
While nothing in this anthology blew my mind I enjoyed each story! A lot of Poe's macabre plots creep me out even more when enacted by teens. Plus: the stories that did the inspiring are included too!
This was so much fun to read and perfect for the spooky season! I always loved Poe in high school but it had been forever since I‘d read his stories and this book has them all laid out in the back with the reimagined works in the front. I flipped back and forth for every story and my favorites was the Annabel retelling and Lygia retelling, least favorite the Fall of the House Usher retelling. Also the black out Raven by Amanda Lovelace was great!
Other than a couple stories, Poe's writing really dragged this down. And I only really liked a couple of the reimagined stories as well. Probably just the wrong time for me and this book, but yeah.
Looking for spooky but not scary? Modern Mrs. Darcy has a list of short story collections to fill that need!
Since I don‘t read a lot of short stories, every book on the list is new to me!

It‘s still hot here in Texas but it is fall in my mind.
Poe fans! What‘s your favorite story or poem by Edgar Allan Poe?
My favorite story is The Tell-Tale Heart and my favorite poem is Annabel Lee. ❤️
There is this rolling grief that comes and goes. Like the tide, there is no schedule for it, no great silver moon to pull it in regular courses. ~Night-Tide/Tessa Gratton (From His Hideous Heart)
Thank you to everyone who took a moment to offer me comfort yesterday. I was stunned by the response. So many loving, compassionate comments. I will be going through and thanking you individually but it‘s going to take me a while. ❤️
Happy book birthday to His Hideous Heart! I can‘t wait to dive into these retellings and compare to the original works. Bring on SP🎃🎃KY reads season!!
I'm doing an event with a couple of the authors- at the Poe Museum on Friday the 13th! Enjoying it already!
Heading into Halloween, we will get a chance to read new takes on Poe's classics. Should be interesting. And I think they did the black red and white thing really well here by incorporating the blue.
