A Thousand Mornings: Poems | 
so-soThis was a nice collection of Oliver's poems but I didn't fall in love with the imagery or the world themselves the way I did with her other work, 'Upstream'.
I'll have to visit more of her work as she has quite a few but all in all a short and good collection exploring the small moments of a life.

Every year we have been
witness to it: how the
world descends
into a rich mash, in order that
it may resume.
And therefore
who would cry out
to the petals on the ground
to stay,
knowing as we must,
how the vivacity of what was is married
to the vitality of what will be?
I don't say
it's easy, but
what else will do
if the love one claims to have for the world
be true?

pickI love poetry and it‘s been a while since I have read any. I sat and read this from cover to cover. Just beautiful. That someone can put words together like she does. I‘m left with such a calm feeling. Glad I picked this up this lovely afternoon. ❤️
pickAll of my favorite poets bring me back to a different facet of my core self. Mary Oliver never ceases to induce calm, meditative introspection. I imagine this is how reading Bashō felt in his own time.

pickOh, yes. Continuing to vibe with Mary Oliver's subject matter and form of expression. Will definitely be reading more from her.
Speaking of looking for the words...I feel this. So much.
“Have I lived enough?
Have I loved enough?
Have I considered Right Action enough,
Have I come to any conclusion?
Have I experienced happiness with
sufficient gratitude?
Have I endured loneliness with grace?
I say this,or perhaps I am just thinking it.
Actually, I probably think too much.
Then I step out into the garden,
where the gardener, who is said to be a simple
man,is tending his children,the roses.
"I go down to the shore in the morning
and depending on the hour the waves
are rolling in or moving out,
and I say, oh, I am miserable,
what shall -
what should I do? And the sea says
in its lovely voice:
Excuse me, I have work to do."
I did go down to the shore, at Llanbadrig, Anglesey, and though it was late afternoon rather than morning, and though I actually wasn't miserable, this first poem in the collection still felt right and meaningful.
pickI am not a poetry person, but so many people told me to try Mary Oliver. This was my first foray into her work and I absolutely loved it. Her observations about the beauty of simple moments in nature around her took my breath away.
“The man who has many answers
is often found
in the theaters of information
where he offers, graciously,
his deep findings.
While the man who has only questions,
to comfort himself, makes music.”
Then I step out into the garden,

pickI‘ve been a fan of Oliver‘s since college. And I actually read quite a few of these poems for a class then. This is the first time I‘ve read through this collection completely.
Oliver‘s observations on nature are so simple, but still powerful. She finds joy in moments, peace in observations, and this was full of moments of respite that I have needed over the past year. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
so-soI‘m clearly in the minority but I wasn‘t very impressed with this collection. Poems can be observations but observations are not necessarily poems. There were a few striking & beautiful lines, and the longer poems were stronger, but mostly I found this rather pedestrian and oddly twee at times. Many of the poems left me thinking “Huh?” or “Yeah, and?” I might try another of her collections to see if it works better but this was mostly meh. 2/5 ⭐️
Every day I‘m still looking for God
and I‘m still finding him everywhere

I preordered this collection of Mary Oliver beauties a couple of months ago and it just arrived. 😍
1. Most any poetry on nature, I really enjoyed the tagged by Mary Oliver.
2. Couldn‘t think of anything right off, so I‘ll say driving....I was terrified as a teen and tried to convince my parents that I could go anywhere I wanted with public transit....glad I learned though

pickI enjoyed this collection of poetry. Often when I read poetry, I feel that I have to read some poems twice to fully appreciate them. In this case, I just wanted to read them twice, & so I did. I highlighted many lines, & a couple of poems in their entirety. Oliver's writing is so simple, & yet so expressive. It made me happy. I definitely plan to pick up more of Oliver's work.

pickI enjoyed this. Read it in 2 sittings. I loved the description Oliver uses. In the past, I remember not liking poems I had read by her. It's funny how tastes can change. pickThis was my first experience reading a collection by Oliver. I feel that in order to do a poem justice it really should be read a few times. I didn‘t break each poem down, but I could feel the coalescence of nature, stillness, a quiet moment. With any collection I enjoyed some poems more than others. One of my favorites was “I happened to be Standing.” I will definitely be returning to Oliver‘s poetry again.
