On my #bookquilt because 32 Candles was an audiobook that I discovered when I first moved back to VA. I was missing my friends, not working a lot, and here was this book that made me laugh, cringe, and cheer.
#blackvoices @ShyBookOwl Growing up I loved Sixteen Candles ❤️
I loved Davie and the story took a twisty crazy turn in the middle that I admit I didn‘t see coming. I defiantly recommend this book 😊
I thought I knew where this story was going but it surprised me at many turns and in the best ways. What a treat on the week of my 32nd birthday! 🥳🎂

Best book I ever read. I am reading this again for second time.
Growing up I loved Sixteen Candles ❤️
I couldn‘t wait to read about a girl obsessed with finding her MollyRingwald happy ending. I loved Davie and the story took a twisty crazy turn in the middle that I admit I didn‘t see coming. I defiantly recommend this book 😊
Yay for book mail ❤️ I think I might have to start this tonight 😊

This was such a fun book to read, with all of its references to John Hughes movies! Thanks @dariazeoli for sending me this kindle book! #ReadingThroughTheYears192021 #2010

I really really hope it gets adapted one day. And also I need more books written by Carter.
16 candles but way better.

I cut the article out and placed it reverent-like between the pages of my hardback edition of The Color Purple. It is my favorite book and home to Celie, the black character I identified with most in the world, because she was ugly but still found her way to a happy ending.
Later on in high school, after a viscous prank, and after getting beaten up by her mother, the town prostitute, Davidia will run away from her small Mississippi town and catch a ride to Los Angeles where she has one shot to make it as a singer. I chose this because every time I see #fancy, even though I know this is Drake‘s song, I think of Reba‘s 🎶 Here‘s your one chance, Fancy, don‘t let us down 🎶 #heatinjuly
#riotgrams June 10: Book Deserving More Reads (until this awesome book is as popular as it deserves to be and has an adaptation it will always be my pick.)
Aww, I liked this. Take the movie 16 Candles, make Molly Ringwald black, from Mississippi, and have her mother be a prostitute. Have Molly morph into Andy from Pretty in Pink. 5/8ths thru the story, have her grown up and exact revenge on all of James Spader and his rich friends, and then morph her back into 16 Candles Molly just in time to see her black Jake waiting for her outside a wedding. Predictable but it‘s depth makes it worth reading.

Not many on the shelves!
#photobookchallenge day 12 - romantic cover
OK so this isn't the most romantic cover, but it is a romantic book, so that's something! (Besides, the simplicity appeals to me.)
This is a riff off of 16 Candles, which is one of my favourite movies 😘

#recommendsday this is one of my favorite books that is so good I had to buy the ebook bc my paperbacks kept getting "borrowed." (I've also gifted it a lot.) I love the characters. It has an I-didn't-see-that-coming moment. It has the magic of '80s movies while being modern with a bite! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
BACKLIST BOOK REC: If you're looking for a good beach read, this would fit the bill (I don't do beaches but even so!). This is a fun and funny story about finding yourself, finding a life, and maybe also finding love. A black woman builds the better life she deserves. Strong, real, universal.
Well-written rom-com with interesting characters. At some points in the plot, things come together a little too easily, but that didn't detract from it being an enjoyable read. Most rom com books are so shallow I can't even finish them, but this is smarter and deeper and more fun than many others.
