For me this is a simple 3 🌟 read. Although the topics are serious (women's rights) in the time of the #metoo movement. It read a bit forced. And I'm not a fan of the ending. I doubt I'll continue with the series but with that said these types of books are important. For me though it didn't come acrossed as all that empowering though.

3✨ I had a love hate relationship with this book. I do not like the political aspects of any books and this had mostly that. With any second book in the series it wasn‘t as good as the first. I had characters I liked and disliked. The dislikes characters seemed to have more points of view. The wrap ups in the end were excellent! The last book came out a couple days ago so I‘ll be looking for it soon! 🥰

I‘m struggling with this right now because all the point of views I‘m getting in this chapter are the characters I‘m not fond of. 😭

What?! That ending had me floored. So I‘m not super into politics in books or war, but this was not that bad. Main premise is women‘s rights with a dash of magic. The names are unique and several even had nicknames so I had trouble with the audio I was actually using. This is also my #bookspin book for March.

TheAromaofBooks I sometimes get frustrated with books and names, even in print. I was reading one book set during the Regency era that had a Scarlet Pimpernel vibe with a group of nobles doing secret good works, yadda yadda, but literally they all had their “Lord So & So“ name, then their first name, then their nicknames within the group and it was soooo confusing!! 4y

5⭐️ Have you ever been on a roller coaster ride that had your stomach in your throat the entire time, but the moment you got off you were like “let‘s go again“! That was this book. The ending though, left me wrecked. I also want to mention some possible trigger warnings, quite a few in fact, so I would recommend proceeding with caution. Other than that, 100% recommend. This was also my #doublebookspin for February.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 4y
TheBookHippie I read this as an ARC. So glad to see someone else read and enjoy it! 4y
Roary47 Looks like I‘m picking this up soon. 🤣 4y

oh my goodness this world is a mess. It makes me feel better about living in a time and continent where Americans just...decide a pandemic is over cause they don't wanna do that anymore and...we have murder hornets. This is a super political maneuvering heavy book so if you're not a fan of that...I just don't think this series is really for you. It continues to tackle a lot of stuff that revolves around societal rules of genders.

It's my birthday so I took the day off work! I'm going to pick up some sushi for lunch, get a small ice cream cake for dessert, make breakfast dinner (almond flour pancakes with banana and toffee bits), Jang out with the puppies and read this baby! My preorder is set to ship to the store which is closed for now so I will have to wait to get my physical copy but I am not waiting any longer to listen to the audio!

Mishu94 Happy birthday! ❤️❤️ 5y

Finally finished! This was a long audiobook. Maybe it would have been better if it was summer/we had nicer weather so I could walk and listen more. I just felt like this dragged. The world building was good. I liked the magic in this book. I hated Delnamon and hated being in his head. There was a lot of rape at the beginning of this book and women hating throughout which feels weird for a feminism fantasy book. I dunno if I‘ll read the 2nd book.

Laughterhp This is really between a pick and a so-so. Because in the beginning I was exercising and doing yard work just so I could listen. It started to become a chore though towards the end of the book. Also, I feel like there were some unnecessary subplots that eventually just went away and were tied up way too easily. 5y

Hopped on the treadmill just so I could listen to my audiobook. ☺️

I have 8 hours left and 6 days before it is returned to the library! It sounds like I‘ll be doing a lot of audiopuzzling this week!

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday!

I‘m meeting on FaceTime with my Quarterly Wine & Mystery Book Club. It‘s my first meeting and my first time being part of an actual book club! We usually meet at wineries, but you know...

BookishMe Have fun chatting books and tippling 😉😉 5y
Scochrane26 I‘m having trouble completing my current audiobook. I‘m working from home, so that cuts out 1-2 hours a day I‘m in the car. Luckily, I was able to renew my book this time. 5y
Laughterhp @Scochrane26 I don‘t usually have a commute but I listen when I‘m walking my dog, but since my husbands been home and it hasn‘t stopped raining I haven‘t been listening. Plus it‘s over 20 hours of audio, so it‘s a long one! 5y

I flew through this puzzle. It took me like 2 hours, so haven‘t gotten very far in this 20+ hour audiobook. I still have 17 hours left.

I now have no more puzzles in my house that I haven‘t done... maybe I‘ll redo the marauder‘s map puzzle I have, that‘s a tough one because everything‘s brown..

Are puzzles considered essential items if I order from amazon?

It felt like FOREVER finishing this book. The premise is great: in this society where women are treated as property, and overall dehumanized, there is magic (also generally only acceptable for men to use). A spell is cast that threatens the patriarchy giving women more choice and power. The story includes what I find is the most repulsive male character since Joffrey in Game of Thrones. But I‘m invested in the story enough to read the second book.

MillennialP1nk Also want to add that there‘s some serious world building and political maneuvering with not so much action. A great high fantasy feminist epic as it‘s described! 5y

Holy hell-this is my shit-world and political building. It's set in this fantasy world but took all these contemporary modern issues and messed with it. All of the female characters were intelligent and connected but had distinct story lines. The magic system was extremely interesting. While we get a bit of information about the magic structure, it's importance is more the figurative power the magic has to shift the power structure of this world.

MoonWitch94 Sounds awesome 5y

Bailedbailed

Bailed at 30%. This is the 2nd book I‘ve read that claimed to be “feminist” literature and I‘ve been greatly disappointed. I thought this book was going to be about women claiming their own power, but it‘s mostly rape and misogyny. #arc #NetGalley
