Rad Women Worldwide
Rad Women Worldwide: Artists and Athletes, Pirates and Punks, and Other Revolutionaries Who Shaped History | Kate Schatz
65 posts | 34 read | 77 to read
From the authors of the New York Times bestselling book Rad American Women A-Z, comes a bold new collection of 40 biographical profiles, each accompanied by a striking illustrated portrait, showcasing extraordinary women from around the world. In Rad Women Worldwide, writer Kate Schatz and artist Miriam Klein Stahl tell fresh, engaging, and inspiring tales of perseverance and radical success by pairing well researched and riveting biographies with powerful and expressive cut-paper portraits. Featuring an array of diverse figures from Hatshepsut (the great female king who ruled Egypt peacefully for two decades) and Malala Yousafzi (the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize) to Poly Styrene (legendary teenage punk and lead singer of X-Ray Spex) and Liv Arnesen and Ann Bancroft (polar explorers and the first women to cross Antarctica), this progressive and visually arresting book is a compelling addition to women's history.

Enlightening. I study feminism and powerful, strong, revolutionary women on a regular basis, and I had heard of 12 of these 40 profiles. These were well-chosen and well-synopsized. The only thing I thought could have been improved was the art. It wasn‘t that I didn‘t like the style, but I feel like these women have been anonymous enough. Show pictures of the ones where they exist. Show their work.

An amazing anthology of women that I loved! #Radwomenworldwide includes women from all walks of life dealing with many forms of patriarchy and oppression in several eras, women who took a stand in one way or another
Who would you like to see in an anthology?

I loved Rad American Women; this one is just as rad. 40 women from 30 countries, with a list of 250 more to explore when you're through. This is Hypatia, "the first known female mathematician and scientist." #girlsinscience #backtoreading

This was such a fun read! 40 short bios of women from around the world and different points in history. A lot of them I had heard of before but many names were new so it was fun to learn. In the back there is a list of 250 more rad women, organized by country. I love reading about women making a difference!

I love this exploration of incredible women from around the world. Some women I knew of, or had even read, but others were new to me. I spent a few hours reading, placing library holds, and looking up videos of people online. What a lovely Sunday.

My holds queue is now full again.

If I had to do reports on some of these women when I was in school, I might have been more interested in my history classes. What a great read! So many women of whom I've never heard of. Schools should use these books when giving kids a list of people to write a report on. One of my favorite quotes from it, from Queen Lili'uokalani: "You must remember never to cease to act because you fear you may fail."

Reviewsbylola I want to remember to have stuff like this for my girls to read and look at when they're older. ❤️ 7y

Not sure if I'll keep up with posting my work-related stats, but I thought I'd share for the heck of it. Note: the numbers don't add up because I'll occasionally note crossover appeal. 😃

Fantastic, all-ages collective biography highlighting the struggles and achievements of women around the world. It was great to revisit the lives with which I already was familiar and fabulous to learn about so many other women's lives. The author includes an additional list at the end of more women we should know...so much work still left to do!

Simply put this is a very beautifully put together collection of short biographies of women who have made an impact. It is inspiring, well researched and full of the spirit of what it means to be a women. There are no boundaries but the ones we put on ourselves. The stories of these women who come frol extremely different backgrounds and ways of life are a testament to that!

Reading about these women heartening and entertaining (a female king?!?!). It's easy to pick up this book and read about one of the women in just a few minutes.

Anyone with an interest in women‘s history (and perhaps anyone with daughters) should pick this book up. I‘d suggest leaving it out on the coffee table or somewhere else that encourages picking it up to read an entry from time to time.

Thank you to Ten Speed Press for the hardcover.
