The top book is Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. Ill be getting more from the library today. This was my holds that came in yesterday. I had the wise idea to place all the books i wanted on hold instead of saving them for later. Lol. I better get to reading. I already know i will have to renew a bunch of the books.

I have had this book for 35+ years and finally read it!

Brilliant! This book is even more relevant today than when originally written. I especially enjoyed "Screwtape Proposes a Toast."

I tried. I gave up. I still love C.S. Lewis.

C.S. Lewis wrote this back in the 1960s, but it sure sounds like America 2019.

I'm kind of backtracking here, but I realized there were a few book reviews I had yet to cover. 👍

Honestly, The Screwtape Letters, is my personal favorite book and most likely will be my new go-to. Written in letters between two demons vying for a man's soul, C.S. Lewis combines his somewhat fantastical writing style and his deep spirituality to create an entertaining yet starkly spiritual and knowledgeable read.

Finished this one last night working towards #24B4Monday !!
So much more here than I was grasping. It deserves another read through to glean more, but not any time soon. It was a tough read. But after multiple bails, Im just happy to have finished.

My only solace upon finishing this book is that absolutely everyone else is a hypocrite too. I loved and hated this book in equal measure. C.S. Lewis is absolutely pure 😈.

I was browsing through my library‘s selection of audio books on Libby and found this one. As I recall, I started reading it at some point ages ago and never finished. Perfect for a listen! #audiostitching #crossstitch

My next audiobook.

So this was my second CS Lewis read in the last few weeks. I've been on a short book reading binge, in an effort to get to those books on my TBR that I may otherwise never read. Compared to The Great Divorce I enjoyed this book more. It was witty and made me smirk in several places. Interesting read but it takes a while to get through just because of the letters basically being morally and religiously backwards since it‘s from the perspective of one of the devil‘s apprentices.

Ouch, that was sharp! Written by a senior devil to his nephew tasked with winning the soul of a young man for "Our Father Below", I read this as an acute and often amusing appraisal of human nature; the finer points of Christian doctrine went over my head.
The picture is the inscription in a Bible given to me years ago by my Grandad. (Elizabeth was his aunt.)

Screwtape is a senior tempter in the service of "Our Father Below". This story is a collection of letters to his nephew Wormwood who is a novice demon attempting to secure the damnation of a young man's soul. The Screwtape Letters are a story of temptation and the ability to overcome it. Very interesting look at Christianity and highly enjoyable.

Got my ass to confession after this one. Good for the soul. 10/10

31 letters make up this book, Screwtape gives Wormwood detailed advice on various methods of undermining faith and promoting sin interspersed with observations on human nature and Christian doctrine. Wormwood and Screwtape live in a peculiarly morally reversed world, where individual benefit and greed are seen as the greatest good, and neither demon is capable of comprehending or acknowledging true human virtue when he sees it.

My favorite book of all time is "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S.Lewis. My husband received this copy as a graduation gift when he completed his four year degree. I love the dry wit Lewis uses in these letters. The uncle is giving tips to his nephew (both demons) on how to trip up the young man in his charge - so many easy choices. #bookphotochallenge #augustofpages @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

I'm not religious nor a firm believer in God but this was fun and really interesting to read. A peephole into hell and Satan's work. Really evil and quite scary. And many other things. Read it and see what it's all about.

Happy August! I plan on doing lots of reading this month especially because school also starts this month and I tend to really slow down on reading during that time. I'm 5 books behind on my reading challenge if I want to finish 24 this year! Gotta werk.

The Screwtape Letters. Stolen from my boyfriends bookshelf. 😈

The Oh Hellos put out this album inspired by the Screwtape Letters. It is told from the perspective of the human being tempted by Wormwood. Great tribute to Mr. Clive Staples Lewis. Brilliant concept. Perfect execution. Beautiful album.

This is my favorite Lewis. I remember the first time I read it. When I was finished I wanted to go back to the beginning and start over again.

This book was so thought provoking. I think I have passages underlined on every page. Clive Staples, you are such a genius.

"The humans live in time but (God) destined them to eternity. He therefore... wants them to attend chiefly to two things, to eternity itself, and to that point of time which they call the Present. For the Present is the point at which time touches eternity."

"Our [a devil's] cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy's [God's] will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys."

You know a book is gonna be good when you open it up and see this.

To be honest it took awhile to get into and several attempts but it's worth it, especially the audiobook version, read with a pen and notebook to hand! A classic.
