Based on a seldom-told true story, this novel is perfect for everyone who is fascinated by Britains royal familya behind the scenes look into the nurseries of little princes and the foibles of big princes. April, 1897: A young nanny arrives at Sandringham, ancestral estate of the Duke and Duchess of York. She is excited, exhaustedand about to meet royalty. . . . So begins the unforgettable story of Charlotte Bill, who would care for a generation of royals as their parents never could. Neither CharlotteLaLa, as her charges dub hernor anyone else can predict that eldest sons David and Bertie will each one day be king. LaLa knows only that these children, and the four who swiftly follow, need her steadfast loyalty and unconditional affection. But the greatest impact on Charlottes life is made by a mere bud on the family tree: a misunderstood soul who will one day be known as the Lost Prince. Young Prince John needs all of Lalas lovethe kind of love his parents wontor cantshow him. From Britains old wealth to the glittering excesses of Tsarist Russia; from country cottages to royal yachts, and from nursery to ballroom, Charlotte Bill witnesses history. The Royal Nanny is a seamless blend of fact and fictionan intensely intimate, yet epic tale spanning decades, continents, and divides that only love can cross.

This book surprised me. It was so good! The true story of Charlotte Bill, who was the nanny of two future kings. David, who abdicated for dreadful Wallace Simpson, and Bertie, who was his successor. More importantly, she was the nanny of their little known baby brother Johnny. The one she cherished most.

This is a really interesting story based on true events. Charolette Bill takes a job as a nanny to the British Royal Family in 1897. Through 6 children she serves as a loyal guardian and protector of family and secrets, including Johnnie, an intellectually challenged child who suffers from Epileptic seizures. Charolette, known as Lala, serves through many years, forfeiting her own life and her own romantic aspirations.

Really rough start to my day. My anxiety is out of control and have had lots of trouble sleeping. After regular therapy this morning, I did some retail therapy at my favorite used bookstore before heading back to work. Skippy is creeping in the background, keeping an eye on things. @MinDea #Shippy

Given the recent birth of another Royal, this book stood out to me. While I do love historical fiction, this one was exceptionally entertaining & educational @Mommamanzi

Interesting enough that I kept reading, not good enough that I‘d read it again. I know it was based on real people and events, but the romance between Lala and Chad seemed like it was reaching. Why does there always have to be a romance?w

Starting this. My current nonfiction read is bogging down a little and I can't focus on it today.

I'm always interested in the Royal Family, so I was very excited to read this historical novel about Charlotte Bill, royal nanny. I read the novel during my lunch breaks at work. It was okay but not very engaging. Including a photo of Prince William as Charlotte was his great grandfather's nanny.

Dragon Just realized how happy she would be to have a Princess named Charlotte 😀 7y

For Anglophiles-novel about Charlotte Bill, nanny to the British Royal Family 1897-1919. Called Lala by her charges, she's a caring nanny & the history & life w/ the Royals is fascinating. Great research/attention to detail. Paired on the blog w/ Rice Pudding w/ Strawberry-Plum (chia seed) Jam.

Excellent look at what it takes to care for and raise royal children. The characters were all lovely and I especially enjoyed the time taken to develop the uniqueness of each one. Not always a happy story but one of duty, sacrifice, and love. Must read historical fiction!
