pickFinally! I finished a book and thankfully, but not surprisingly, it was a good one. I love Daniel Silva‘s Gabriel Allon series and this, the sixteenth book, did not disappoint. It kept me on the edge of my seat and it‘s a testament to what an emotionally exhausting couple of weeks it has been that it took me so long to finish. I wanted to read nonstop to race to the end. If you like thrillers, you should try this series!
Yes. Yes I am hiding from the world, in my closet, trying to finish this book. I don‘t have the energy to build my blanket cave, so the newly cleared out closet will have to suffice. 🤷🏻♀️
This year. Every time I think I‘ve had the worst possible week, the next week says “hold my beer”. This has been a hellish week and I am exhausted. I don‘t even want to read and I love Daniel Silva, but I also don‘t want to break my streak, so I am going to read a chapter and then try to sleep. Is it 2021, yet?
I‘ve decided to bail on the ebook I was sent for review (I bought a finished copy out of guilt and may come back to the story at a later date, it‘s just not working for me now) & since it is still March, I‘m picking up the 16th Gabriel Allon novel. I‘m much happier with this reading choice. 😍

Reading has been done tonight!! I have done revision cards for 3.5 hours with my daughter on sociological theories of religion and the family...my brain is very tired.

so-soThought it would turn out to be one of the greatest thrillers I have read, unfortunately, I was let down half of through. Mind it, it was not bad by any means, but it could have been lot better. Idea was great, fluidity was good.
They said, "Sleep when the baby sleeps."

so-soI love Silva's books. And this series has always been exceptional. However, this is not as good as the previous Gabriel Allon works. Up until the last hundred pages or so, it's boring. I loved the last part of the novel, as it was fast-paced, exciting, and so on. But it took too long to get there.
pickSilva knows how to build tension and hold the reader at the edge of their seat for most of a novel. If you are looking for good espionage fiction, it doesn't get much better than this -- but you should start at the beginning of the series to appreciate the way it weaves together.

I haven't read any of his books, but I loved his response to the NYT Book Review's weekly question: You're organizing a literary dinner party. Which 3 writers, dead or alive, do you invite? Silva says, "Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer, with William F. Buckley to serve as referee. I think I would set the table with paper plates and plastic utensils to avoid any undue bloodshed." I think they still would have found a way to hurt each other!
I can't even tell you how excited I am to start this book! Daniel Silva and the Gabriel Allon series are that good!
